This is Erwin Park, located in McKinney, TX. A highly regarded trail in DFW, it was a bit of a letdown. While it had some great features and fun, quicker, techie sections, most of the trail iss flat open fields, exposed to the sun and wind...we also had 36mph winds on this day.

Hey thanks for watching! I guess some of the trail has been demoed now for housing. It has been under water for a bit now too, maybe when it dries out they'll give it some love and freshen things up!

Flat open fields? I rode 19 miles today at Erwin and had 1,300 feet elevation climb, most all of that was in those "flat" fields. Actually there are lots of fast downhills, with awesome berms, if you ride fast, but you don't. Did you ever get over 12mph? I notice you skip all the fun stuff, jumps, log at 27:02, watching you ride is a let down....unless it is to get to sleep. lol.

David I’m glad you’re a fan of Erwin. Different trails suit different riders. Me, I’d prefer to spend my miles riding trails like POA, Big Cedar, Quanah, Northshore, DVSP and the like. I spent yesterday at Spider, those are the trails I consider enjoyable, and they’re considerably different than Erwin. But lots of people, yourself included enjoy Erwin and trails like it, and I’m glad for you to be able to get out, ride, and have a good time.

Hikers should always yield to bikers… 🤙

I agree! It is way more challenging for a bike to stop and move than a hiker to step out of the way.

Thx for the video, any recommendations on where to ride after not riding for about 13 years? I just picked up my bike and would like to get back into riding again , but need to find a place where i can adjust and tune my settings and get my cardio going back again . Looking to ease into it again.

Thanks for watching! It depends a lot on where you live, DFW is a big place. If you scope out Trailforks, most of the green DFW trails are going to treat you ok. I would probably wait to ride blues until you have a guide, or a group. Ultimately we need this awful rain to cease, since everything is closed right now. What city are you in?

@@danielrides I am in North Dallas. I used to live on the eastcoast and do a ton of DH riding and biking out there.

It sounds like the technical skill shouldn’t be an issue, but rather getting your lungs & legs back. Towards Dallas is mostly flat, some punchy, but lots of miles to work on cardio. As you move towards the middle of the metro you get some rocks and elevation, and out west even more. I’d probably stay away from Sansom, Dinosaur, Cleburne & Big Cedar for a bit, but most of the rest you should be good on. The three main trail orgs are DORBA, FWMBA, & WMBA, DORBA has an app & website for trail status, the other two are on Facebook.

LOL at the woman throwing her hands up around 10:00. I personally always hike Erwin, but it’s pretty obvious that you need to cut the faster moving, less agile mountain bikers a wide berth. Especially considering it’s a DORBA trail lol.Not sure what she expected haha. Great video, thanks for posting!

Thanks for watching Tabber! And thanks for being a courteous hiker, when we all share and respect each other it makes for a pretty great experience out there.

The multi use trail etiquette is ALWAYS without exception - cyclist YIELDS to hikers - and both Yield to horses (if present).

Thanks! But my intention is to show the trail as it exists, and with my skill level at the time, not a sped up view of it. This is to help people determine if it’s something they are interested and capable of riding.

Thanks for showing us the trails, but that looks a bit boring to ride. I was told it was gnarly, not sure what part they were referring to. Haha
@danielrides

You’re absolutely right! If you want gnarly stuff, you’ll need to head towards Big Cedar, OCNP, Boulder Reds, POA, or Sansom. The further west you go, the chunkier and hillier it gets.

@Daniel Rides awesome, I will look into those, since I'm new to the Plano area. Going to hit up North Shore (West).

Northshore 1-5 are a lot of fun, mostly flowy XC and a little tech. Loop 6 is insanely rocky and tough. 7 is fun, but far away from the rest. I lead a group ride on Saturday mornings at 9:00am. This week we’ll be at Boulder. Join in if you’d like! Also look up Mountain Biking in DFW on Facebook, it’s a great community!

@Daniel Rides thanks man, I might be available this weekend if your group will be riding. I don't have Facebook, but I'm sure I can find something on Stava as well.

I was wondering about 2/3 thru, what was dropping from the top...it was some serious sweat action. Yeah, too much exposure unfortunately
