Hey, I'm a 44-year-old, back to MTB after 20 years off, and it seems I am going through your "show collection" as I can't get enough :-). Thank you for another great video. If I may; I have a suggestion. It could be beneficial to the viewer if presented with the prerequisites required for each skill you are teaching. So, what is needed to know prior to tackling a feature or learning a new skill. Position/jumping/dropping, cornering, etc. then provide a link to that particular video, if you already have covered it, for viewers to watch first. I hope it does not come across as criticism. I really like your channel and what you do for us.

Great tutorial! I found the head tilt tip key when I was first trying this. On the wall, keep the lower shoulder down, and head tilted down. At exit, turn your head back vertical to the ground. If you do that it almost seems automatic. BTW, I'm 59 not as far as Alex, but trying to progress!

The bike really follows your eyes (and your hip). If you look at the exit, the bike exits. If you look at your front tire, it's just an OTB waiting to happen.

I have seen very few videos specifically on riding wall rides, and I really liked it! Strengths included the vibe, the editing incl. music, great riding examples, confidence inspiring, very good tips. This very much hit my skill level. I'd say to make it even better, I'd agree with the other commenter who said it would be helpful to have other wall examples. Like do some that are less vertical, that you roll onto and off of, some that are more vertical, some that are curved and not flat, some that have a mid-line in them where the verticle angle changes (or more than one change), etc. Show progression from the easiest type to the more difficult type and differences you need to do. I thought it was good that you talked about the use of the eyes, but I felt you could do it even more. I rode a high speed wall ride recently at Fire Mountain Cherokee, NC that was fast, longer, but not nearly as forgiving on vertical "width" and due to poor use of eyes and being worried about going over the top edge of the wall ride, I almost did at speed b/c I was looking at/over the edge. It was a major panic button moment and fortunately just in time I knew to look down which just barely saved it and kept me on the wall. It was super fun and the challenge of that one was staying on it all the way until it ended instead of running out of speed and coming down off of it too early. You should check it out sometime. but great video, great stoke on your channel. At 52 I love the concept and enjoy watching each one. Keep it up!

Thanks. I made this video before we had any subscribers and it was sort of a shot in the dark. Now it's a lot easier to make the right thing because people ask for it. LOVE IT. So There will absolutely be another wall ride video. Probably more than one. It's funny as soon as you finish a video there are three things you want to add or redo. I'd like to show the same principles with a small wall and progress to larger walls and show some of the alternate shapes too. Stay shreddy my friend!!!

Nice video. You have a great selection of them. I live in a rural area about 50 miles from the nearest trails, so I built my own. About 3 miles of single track trail that more closely resembles something you would expect to see a canoe being portaged on than a nice flow trail. I was just out in the snow riding my fatbike on it. It was nice to hear that you're in your late 50's. I have a half dozen years on you, so it's good to see an old dog learning new tricks!

Thanks! I’m 60 and been basically a trail rider for years and just starting to do more drops, jumps, and wall rides. I’ve not done well on walls so far. I keep sliding off, but now I understand why. It’s all geometry and psychology. Appreciate the tips.
@JoyOfBike3 жыл бұрын
Heck yeah Mike. I want to do another video with smaller walls but the physics and the tips are the same. If you’re sliding off you’re most likely not leaning enough. So try to lean your head towards your shoulder. The body should follow and the body needs to be around 90 degrees from the wall angle. It can be a little less. The other issue might be that you need a bit more speed. If you have a wall that doesn’t require a jump off, (I hope so if you’re learning) try the lean first then fine tune your speed.

I like the tip about dropping your shoulder--maybe that will get me over the hump. I used to race cross-country but never got to ride anything with the word "death" in its name. The last time I did a ride that required flying was my BMX days in a dirt track race and I broke my front tooth. When I got home I was so afraid I'd get grounded for riding my bike that way so I told my parents that somebody punched me in the face. Hard to believe that you're just learning this stuff, you have awesome skills. I'll be sharing this with my team (Bike Scouts) who ride with me as Volunteer Bicycle Messengers for disaster response. The good news is these steps will work on smaller walls. It is the same technique. The bad news is it would be a lot cooler if we just showed some smaller walls and we havent gotten to shooting that vid. But it is coming if we get a good melt. The new vid will probably speak more to the physics of exactly why we stick. Which is fun to geek out on AND it gives us older more analytical riders confidence. Start small. The small ones are more difficult in some ways because everything happens faster. Looks like you have some walls at the new pumptrack? Did I dream that?
