Good review. Thanks. Looks easy to enter and has room to move. We need more quality bivy vids. Appreciate this one.

MLD makes some good products. I don't agree with the footbox hanging like that. Having some play makes scene, but in normal lay position it should not be touching your feet. Had you had a sleeping bag, also paired with a full sleeping pad under your feet, say a thermarest air at 2.5 in (very standard pad used) that extra height of the pad under your feet plus the loft of the bag, you are really going to be rubbing up on the footbox of that bivy if not pulled out somehow. All in all I like the bivy

Traditionally bug bivys are very minimalist to save weight and that is what this model does. You can use it just fine with no tie outs or stakes. If you keep adding features that are not needed you have a tent. Bivys are not for everyone.
@MJGEGB5 жыл бұрын
Have you had a chance to use this in warmer weather? The description seems to imply it's better for colder weather. I'm thinking about paring one up with my poncho tarp for certain trips and the extra splash protection is attractive. Some folks have implied that it would not work well for summer due to the DWR 10D sides.
@ArbitraryLifestyle4 жыл бұрын
I mean for $280 you could buy both the MLD Bivy and the Bivy 2 and be covered year-round. Having camped in the summer in tents where the side wall comes up higher, they are absolutely hotter than a full mesh side.

Dammmnnn I've been ALL ABOUT this bivy for a long time, but somehow never realized the entry was on the very top. Kinda ruins my plans for pitching it in inclement weather where the tarp is wet/sagging or when I have it pitched real close to the top for protection in rainy weather. On the next design for me...
@nedsled29944 жыл бұрын
It works well even under a low tarp, the two tie outs are on mitten hooks, you just unclip them and it fall down flat. Actually easier to get in and out that way then steeping in as the video shows unless you are not using a tarp at all.

I just got mine and it is missing the corner struts, the sewn in strut holders and the four corner stake loops. The bathtub floor will not form its tub shape with these missing features. I emailed MLD about this manufacturing defect and waiting to see how they will resolve the issue.

@@benlelavith8789 Ben do you have the bug bivy 2? The regular bug bivy? Just asking because the all net regular bug bivy does not have the struts in the corners, but it does pull out to form a bathtub floor, just not as structured, or tall sides but works well. I have had it twice in the rain and nothing came through the floor. Amazing bivy.

@@nedsled2994 Hey Ned, I purchased the bug bivy 2 for the higher bathtub floor and side walls. I thought they had accidentally sent me the bug bivy 1 (regular). After fully setting it up in my room, it was indeed teh bug bivy 2. I sent and email and here is Ron's reply: Hi We did change the corners, but realize now that was a mistake. Please send that one back and we will send you a new one. Thanks Ron Bell Chief Happiness Officer / Design Minister mountainlaureldesigns.com 1909 Salem Ave SW Roanoke VA 24016 USA 540 588 1721 In my original email, I took pictures of mine and grabbed screenshots of another youtube video of the bivy 2 for comparison. It turns out it was not a manufacturing defect, but a design error\flaw. So to anyone looking to purchase the bivy2, please make sure to double check with MLD that you are getting the original design with the struts, sewn in strut holders, and the proper corner stake loops. Its possible they accidentally sent the newr design to me. I just shipped out mine for them to repair and add the missing features from the old design.

What do you think of this for winter use?

Does very well in the colder temps better than other more closed in bivys the style of this cuts down on condensation big time.

I have been charged via paypal and ordered this product. on June 18 and still waiting for a simple email nevermind the product yet. I have tried contacting them multiple times just to make sure they did not forget about my order. Been trying to contact them for the past 3 weeks, but unsuccessful. Long story shot - I ordered one and had to return it because they used an updated design, which they admitted was a flawed design. So I sent back the flawed bivy. They did send me the replacement on June 5th, but the package was stolen. So I ordered another one and now I have been waiting to hear from them to make sure they are even working on making me my bivy as I had already paid for it. So beware if you want to purchase something from them.

Why are you showing a Summer Bivy in the Winter ?

Because real men use summertime gear in the winter.
@surfandstreamfisher57496 жыл бұрын
if you get any kind of condensation in there the foot end is gonna get your bag wet. that should of had some sort of tie out. i'd question Ron on that. also i'd tell him about the stitching. not typical of MLD

surfandstreamfisher Thanks for the heads up! I’ll reach out to Ron on that for sure.

This looks like it is intended for an A-frame style tarp pitch but then how do you get into it from the top unless your tarp is pitched WAY above it? If the tarp is pitched high enough that you have room to enter this thing then those high sides are really going to be needed! I love my MLD Ultralight Bivy but I'll pass on this thing.
@stuminnis40505 жыл бұрын
Suspend the head end with a cord lock and some slack in the line then just let out the slack when you want to get in and out. I have the net-only version of this bivy. Works like a charm.
