Two years ago I got a picture of a mountain lion on a trail camera on our property. I sent it to the MI DNR and they told me it was a bobcat. I then sent them a picture from the same camera of a black bear that would make the cat about 3ft tall and they STILL told me it was a bobcat.
Well, either we have some MONSTER bobcats roaming our woods or here's some MORE proof of mountain lion activity in Northern Lower MI!

I grew up in the Sault and in 1990 I was riding my bike home with a stringer of fish and a mountain lion ran across the road in front of me about 20' away. It stopped for a moment and stared at me then walked away. I called the DNR when I got home to report it and the lady I spoke to said "Officially there are no mountain lions in Michigan, unofficially we know they are here.

I live in mid Michigan and we had one in our back yard 6 feet from the house mind you. That was February 2023 and in late summer one was sighted 12 miles away. But there have been stories for years , some come with photo evidence. And still the authorities deny they are here. One would think that they should be educating people how to act if or when they encounter a cougar. Instead of sticking their collective heads in the sand.

A few years back in February saw a black panther drinking water from the east branch of the usable river near Grayling. That summer before that sighting my neighbor showed me a deer 20 feet up in a pine tree. There definitely are panthers in northern Michigan.

Heard of black panthers almost 50 years ago in the Eastern UP. People swore they saw them. Covering prey is typical " big" cat practice...lions, tigers, panthers, etc. So is hauling them up trees. An other thing...the DNR will never admit to anything. Folks have seen " mountain lions ( cougars) for years here in Michigan. I remember one written report where the DNR was quota as saying, " the cougars are just " passing through" the state on their way to some where else!! Genius.

Couple stories on lions in lower Michigan: One time I was driving near Rothbury, I saw something on the side of the road and automatically assumed it was a deer, it happened so quickly, bu then I thought “no that was way too LOW and LONG to be a deer”. I thought it was weird. Then a year or two later I saw a picture or video of a mountain lion and my photographic memory immediately recalled that thing I saw at night while driving. It matched it. I am fairly certain that’s what I saw. I hear Lots of sightings in western lower Michigan. I talked to a man once who said he saw a deer straddled up in a tree, like 50 to 100 feet idk, but he said the only animal that does that (props their prey high up in a tree for later), is a mountain lion. He said he was near west branch

I saw this short and have to report that this spring my granddaughter was charge by a couger in Monroe county.. When I tried to report it to DNR 4 different people told me that there maybe mountain lions in the UP but they definitely don't den in the lower. To which I informed them that just a few yrs ago the DNR corden off a den site within a mile of my home. I finally was connected to DNR biologist for Monroe county. He wanted time stamped trail camera proof. What a bunch of slackers. There are 3 rivers that converge nearby with miles of woodlands. Keep an eye on your children and pets. I've also have a home 200 hundred miles north where DNR finished off one hit by a car.

Yes that's because about 25 years ago one of their interns was walking a path at closing time to clear visitors and had a cougar pop out into the trail and started to follow her. The story was published in the local newspaper, the Morning Sun. After calling her supervisor who told her to walk slowly backwards away from the cat it jumped off the path and she was able to continue with her task. This newspaper ran a series of articles on cougar in Michigan every day for a week. This was around around 1997 or 8 . Time gets away from me.

They have always been in lower Michigan where I had lived thought my childhood, but in low numbers and they are mainly nocturnal to low low light predators anyway who shy away from contact with humans. The tennessee DNR said the same thing but they have been spotted and on camera in the top part of Nashville and east and NE to kentucky. I have personally spotted two at night crossing the road in Tennessee on my way to and from work and one of them was partially melainated. Another man in Macon County set up a trailcam after some of his goats were killed and it showed up on the trail cam. A youth about 60 lbs. Now the TWRA is saying that they do exist in middle Tennessee but are not Eastern Cougers or Florida Panthers, but Migrated Western cougars.

Last October I saw a cougar walk across my yard in broad daylight in Hersey Michigan. It walked up to a ridge in my backyard and then there was another one following it. They were stalking a deer in my yard. Not one but two! I was too shocked and caught off guard to get a pic of the one in the yard. By the time I got my phone/camera they were on the ridge behind some trees. I have a video but it is not very good quality. The sun was shining at me and my filming was shaky, but you can see their profiles. You can tell by the way they walked that they were big cats! I have seen bobcats too, but these were not bobcats! I also got a pic of a track. Sent everything I have to the DNR twice, and they won’t even call me back. I’m convinced they don’t want to know. Maybe it will make too much work for them!🤷🏻‍♀️

The bones look too clean to be resently. Not saying it's not mountain lion kill. There are lions in southern Michigan. A unmark dnr truck picked one up hit on M40 near Lawton about 12-15 y years ago. My son saw one cross our driveway. We lived way out in the country. The corridor along Southern M40 is called cougar (lane)? I heard. A neighbor could miles away, had one walk around his truck while he sat in it. I know of someone that had one in battle creek. Their house caught fire and they released it. It was spotted some time later. A customer of mine and her husband saw one in the field across from their home. The sightings go on and on
