Cougars are just awesome. They give us something to admire, fear and love all at the same time. They, along with Jaguars are my favorite cats and have been since I'm a child. Now I'm an old man so I guess I kept my distance and admired these wonderful cats from afar, lol. Mountain lions have such a vast range and such a vast diet that they can basically survive in any atmosphere, gotta be in love with them while kinda fearing them at the same time. They really are one of natures gems

Went to the Verde Head waters a couple days ago, it was honestly amazing and kinda scary to hear them communicating from one side of the river to the other. they are amazing creatures and deserve to be left as is. Mountain lions are illusive and deserve to be preserved. Don’t bother them, and they won’t bother you. Esteban Muniz.

I live out in Rio Rico and there’s a mountain lion that likes to go through my back yard. We caught him on our motion sensor camera a few times that and a bob cat. They also like to go over to my neighbor’s yard and drink from their pool. All the houses are really spread out so it’s a quiet area with plenty of small animals for wild cats to eat. Not to mention plenty of places to blend in lol.

While I was visiting my parents in Scottsdale at their home in the Legend Trails private preserve it was 9:30 in the morning and a mountain lion was walking in the wash mere feet from where I was standing. I didn't move. Thankfully, everything went fine. There are plenty of mountain lions in the low mountains of Northern Scottsdale. Prior to this, they lived in the Sincuidados neighborhood also in North Scottsdale and there were many sightings of mountain lion there too.

About two years ago I saw a huge Mountain Lion right about sunset cross the street 200 meters from my house here in Springerville, Arizona. On my move here one bounded across Highway 60 several hundred meters in front of me near the NM/AZ states' line just east of town. My first mountain lion sighting was in the Bridger Mountains, Montana. It was a young one and it was sniffing where I peed several hours earlier.

Yeah, most cougars in warmer climates tend to be on the thinner side- not always though. The biggest, thickest and most jaguar esqe cougars come from new mexico and arizona I hear. They aren't just big, but extremely thickly muscled, giant forearms, shoulders ETC. So while the average arizona Cougar is thinner I believe they have a higher potential to be beasts than any other population... Just thinking out loud lol.

darcy burlingame 😅 I would not blame that Cougar for biting you in the butt for that (enough to leave an interesting scar, but not crippling. Like when a mad domestic cat bites you)......or at least giving you a few good head swats! I would not recommend sitting on a large cat.... If I was the park ranger who found you crawling for help, saw you had decent hole in your pants, and you tell me a Cougar bit you in the butt because you sat on it.... I may need a moment to stop laughing. 😅 I am well aware of rules and regulations. But I think that “attack” would be considered reasonable recourse of a wild animal. Especially if your gonna be ok...if your not gonna die from your injuries. Just not be able to sit for a little while. 😏 Oh, then there is the precautionary Rabies shots.......

When I was a toddler, my dad would get calls from the ranchers to hunt mountain lines, wolves, coyotes, bobcats. He would take me along and pile them into the bed of the truck. I got to sit on them, look at their eyes, fangs, huge paws and they have the most beautiful eyes. No such thing as using dogs, just a horse, traps and his rifles. My dad’s Navajo, never seen any of people use dogs. lol

I thought the same, but then i concluded that they are probably right. Those you name are subspecies and the mountain lion was said to be the 4th largest species. Anyways, tiger and lion are the two largest species, jaguars are a little larger than cougars, and if i remember correctly both leopard and snow leopard are smaller than cougars (though these are veeery similar in size). Cheetahs are smaller, all other felines are negligible.
@Squintel7
@Squintel7 2 жыл бұрын
@Sims 3 Forever Dude Wouldn't go that far. A British Columbia male cougar is roughly 40kgs from a pantanal jaguar. Sure cougars in the tropics are smaller but that is due to a lack of large sized prey to support both the cougar and the jaguar. Patagonia cougars do not have these issues and grow to be 100+kgs (220+lbs)

Oh do I wish I could post a picture here! I camp up on the moogion rim and one of the camp hosts gave me two pictures of two mountain lions some guys killed up here and I kid you not the mountain lions body was as long as the man from ground to shoulders just huge! That's the day I went out to buy a gun...I'm sure ive encountered one on a hike and once i was sitting at a creek could just feel something watching me and turned where my back wasn't facing him..its not joke you've got to scan your surroundings constantly! I see the bones of elk and deer where they've eaten right down to the bone tearing every bit of meat off "I don't want that happening to me" if we're going to enjoy the outdoors we've got to respect nature.. I hand fed a bull elk a couple weeks ago and I'll never do that again! I was just in the moment and didn't realize how fast he could of killed me! They're beautiful animals but very unpredictable too! Just because they come up to us doesn't always mean they have good intentions....

I found a mtn lion trail in sedona, ive seen him right smack on the side of the hwy 179 as i was walking, only 20 yards from me. It was 9:45pm, i shined my mag light in his face and he ran off. Talked to old man lee (fish and game) last yr and he seemed to not care so i decided to hunt it. Not to kill it but to do what lee should have done, to let the cat know that lurking in town will get it killed. Shame on sedona's fish and game representative for being a lazy bum. I had over a dozen people tell me they saw the big cat in town. The local paper (red rock news) also did nothing. 3 people actually told me they thought the cat was stalking them. I can tell you this, it was stalking me, which is why i decided to confront it and run it off. When our government fails to do its job, the public needs to step up. Now i am asking the state of arizona to pay me for my services. To my knowledge it has left the area but it could have just learned to be more careful and not be seen lurking around. Thanks mr. Lee, retire already. Studying these cats is very important but the safety of the citizens is much more important. That is for the bums at fish and game arizona. Im not waiting for a big cat to kill a child or one of my pets, im not our government, i will protect them before they fall victim.

@@EMS.WildlandFire.TreeClimber. I don't. I think ALL life forms are of equal value. Except maybe ticks and mosquitos. haha I'm just pondering WHY, when they are so many other domestic and game animals to choose from, why someone would choose to kill and consume a magnificent predatory animal such as a Cougar. Surely their meat cannot be so amazingly great that they are the Lobsters of the forest. Not assigning more value to a Cougar over a deer or chicken or fish in the big picture but, IF one has all of these other food options in ready supply WHY kill and eat a Cougar? Just seems unnecessary IMO.
@EMS.WildlandFire.TreeClimber.
@EMS.WildlandFire.TreeClimber. 5 жыл бұрын
I respect your opinion but when you use the word "magnificent" it is very telling to me. It seems you did not use the word magnificent for a deer so you do in fact value one over the other. I do not. So therefore it makes no difference to me whether it is a deer or a cougar either one has 100 lb of meat. Don't get me wrong, both are magnificent to me and I respect and value both of them. And you may not believe this, but I know in my heart that I am telling the truth when I say I am extremely sad every time I kill an animal. Fact is that in Arizona deer seasons are short and mountain Lion seasons are all year long. When deer season is over I switch to lion.

Then there's the African lion and the Indian lion. Then we have all the different species of leopards and jaguars.
