Mountain Monks is a docu-travelogue produced and filmed in the Eastern Himalayas by Vasudeva Joly for BhakTV. Mountain Monks takes a candid look at the many similarities between two monastic traditions of Tibet and India, as seen in Lamaist Buddhism and Vaishnava Hinduism. The first half-hour of the film is set in Darjeeling and the scenic foothills of North Bengal. The second half-hour starts in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. In the surrounding mountains Vasudeva interviews a young lama at the ancient Rumtek Monastery, and takes us on a scary ride up a steep mountain road that was destroyed by a 6.9 earthquake in 2011. Finally we come to to the glacial Changghu Lake, 3,780 meters above sea level at the Tibetan border. The travelogue ends in an unplanned but peaceful encounter with a Himalayan black bear.

We spent a few days there 15 years ago and loved every minute. We befriended the head of the younger monks who kindly showed us the whole area, including opening up closed temples to show us some gruesome artwork that I’ll never forget. Haha. The evening performance in the main hall with a hundred monks chanting and playing instruments was absolutely amazing. One of the highlights of my life. Thank you much for this lovely video 🙏 ❤️

No credit cards to pay off, no anti depressants to be on to cope stress or depression, not to worry about traffic tickets, no need to work like a robot and waste life, not to worry about carcinogens. Western life is way too inferior compare to these monks living simple life. It is the quality of life which matters.

perfectly said. Western civilization only worships the god of commerce, simplicity no longer plays.

Though I perfectly agree with your statements, I would like to remind the both of you that the ancient Indo-European civilization was the very opposite of the materialistic, anti-spiritual, western civilization that we know today.

in gnosticism, archons are the material Demons or vices or karmas that try to delude us to their order to take us away from the path to illumination. they want everyone to be under theyre level and to do under their laws. that excactly what MAJORITY not all! of western culture has in store! That is for the mixed Religion Politics or what i like to call Politigion or Religitics..

Wheel of Dharma. Buddhist history, philosophy, and the teachings from the time of Buddha to the present day. An absolute treasury of knowledge and wisdom, it's very understandable the reason why so many people wish to dedicate their lives to learning these sacred teachings and vital instructions (immortality and enlightenment). The basin foundation of many beautiful world religions, purification of one's own mind is obviously the first step along the path way. 🙏💛💫
