The Solo Summiteer

The Solo Summiteer

Күн бұрын

Headed out from Seathwaite with Scott - The Lone Explorer - for an overnight wild camp in the mountains below the Scafells.
Our route took us up the side of Styhead Gill via a short scramble, and past the spectacular Taylorgill Force waterfall. From here it was on to Styhead Tarn and the mountain rescue stretcher box at Styhead. We then picked up the Corridor Route and found a pitch at 2400ft with fantastic views, dominated by the mighty Great Gable, and surrounded by solitude.
Scott was kind enough to lend me his Terra Nova Voyager tent and it was great to have such a large amount of space for such a lightweight (1.7kg), 2 person tent. Being an ultralight specialist Scotts shelter of choice was the Mountain Laurel Designs Cricket Tarp and Soul bivi combo.
Really great to spend time with Scott and enjoy a fantastic 10 mile hike with 2450ft of ascent.
Many thanks for watching - Dave

Once again an exhilarating and exciting video, many thanks. I totally agree with your comments. You scale the heights to see the sights, but you gain the altitude to grasp the Solitude! Wild camping is illegal anyway in the lower levels, unless you have owners permission and invaded by crowds of people. Keep it up, lovIng your channel!

Obsessed with altitude? A lot worse things to be obsessed with. lol Not sure why that would bother someone else enough to comment, you like the terrain you like! :) :) Altitude sure gives you a great workout plus the views are wonderful. I think my favorite terrain of this trip was the part where there were rocks, trees and waterfalls, just bloody beautiful! lol Thanks for sharing. :) :)

Cracking spot that Dave & route up.. Scott was telling me all about that trip & I got you're message 😉 that bad step ain't too bad is it but like you say just an area to be all the more careful, bit like the route up kirk fell crag I did on my trip. You're right about getting to the more remote locations, the more remote the more solitude just how I like it. Great stuff as always mate take care out there. tfs Andy.

Nice one Andy 🙏🏻. I was just trying to show people who may be considering the route what the bad step was like. It’s nothing too problematic, but some may be concerned about it or even not be aware of it, so thought I’d give them a look. ATB Dave

I take my hat off to you Dave. The start looks a pretty sketchy climb. We opted for heading up the other side of Styhead Gill on Monday and Tuesday. Went hiking with one of the guys I work with, following the corridor route up to Scafell pike and back along Broad crag and pushed on for Glaramara before descending via Hind Gill. Then Tuesday I took the Mrs for a wild camp on the corridor route. Woke up early Wednesday morning packed everything up and hit the summit of Scafell pike at 8am. Love it when you beat the crowds.

All the best things in life are free, and there's something spiritual about the mountains, I'm sure you will agree..
