Nick you are by far one of my top three builders/makers on here. Thanks for the content you make, and the raw nature of it all that make your videos relatable. It’s quality, on a human level.😏

I like this video. It is a quality recording without it being overly edited. I also like the content. A part of a project where you can see the tools, techniques and materials. I like it!

Nick: "Should I try another bracket or should I force it?" Everyone watching: "Force it" Nick: "I think I'll force it" Everyone: 👍👍 Can't believe I missed your video two weeks ago. Happy to see you back in the game. Stay safe.

It was so nice to see you have a video out again. It's been WAY too long! Many thanks to your wife for filming! The video had some info that is really helpful to me as I'm getting ready to drill into concrete in my garage. Wasn't familiar with the bolts you used so glad to know about them and the brackets also. BTW, I use my Nick Ferry table saw sled about every time I'm in the shop.....LOVE IT!!! Please show the ramp when it's completed. No doubt it will be very nice!
@NickFerry2 жыл бұрын
It has been too long and I’m hoping that I can explain more about that soon - glad to hear you’re enjoying your sled so much - probably one of the proudest things that I’ve ever designed, so to hear you getting good use out of yours makes me smile ✌🏼

I haven't seen those brackets before! Very handy. I think it's worth mentioning that before someone gets a wild hair, beware of a post tension type slab. If you manage to hit one of those cables, yowzers, that's gonna be an expensive day. One way I know of to check is on the outer foundation, look for 1.5 inch patches. Also look for documents in the purchase of the house (if you're not the original owner) for the warning of the slab type.

Always good to see what you're working on sir. Would like to see how the rest of the ramp comes together.

Too late now, but if you have to mount something in concrete or brick again, you might try Concrete Screws. These have hardened threads that actually cut into the concrete or brick, just like a screw in wood, and do not depend on the grip caused by expansion of a rawplug/rawbolt - which can loosen over time. I tried several rawplug/rawbolt - type devices to fix my front drive gates over the years, but they all loosened eventually. Drilling a 6 mm hole in the bricks and impact screwing in the Concrete Screws gave me a permanent solution. They also make retro fitting to an existing gatepost without removing it a doddle.
@NickFerry2 жыл бұрын
Good info Don - maybe I’ll be able to show in an upcoming video I use the screws for portions of it - there’s a pipe that I installed tact is kind of a bumper or rub rail

Thanks for the video. Where did you get the brackets?
@NickFerry2 жыл бұрын
They are from Simpson Strong Tie - search retrofit post brace/base - source from your supplier du jour (not sponsored)

Where did you get those brackets. I’m not familiar with that type
@NickFerry Жыл бұрын
Did you check the video description I may have added a link in there if not let me know and I will find you a link I believe they are probably a Simpson strong tie brand that’s typically what I used but I’m not sure if that’s what these exactly were

Hay there. Start drilling without the hammer action. 🥇▶️
@NickFerry2 жыл бұрын
I’ll give it a shot, what’s the worst that could happen? Thanks for the heads up ✌🏼
@ricos14972 жыл бұрын
I assume that's to get the initial indent in the correct place, because the hammer action might "bounce" it off target. Is that what you mean? Thanks.

Ok, so this may sound morbid but the two seconds of the video that's shown when you hover the cursor over the thumbnail makes it look like you have no legs below the knee and are just scooting yourself around on the floor on those pads. So between that and the mention of the wheelchair ramp I thought maybe I had missed the news of some horrible accident and you were building yourself a ramp after healing from a double amputation or something. Doesn't help that the baggy overalls make it look like a mid thigh amputation on the left leg and slightly above the knee on the right. Glad you're ok.
@NickFerry2 жыл бұрын
Luckily I still have my legs - I wish it was nothing but my family has been through some crap lately, one of which, my mother coming home in a wheel chair - it’s a long story I hope to be able to tell at some point ✌🏼
@HeyZeus667 Жыл бұрын
It's a good way to anchor, but you should insulate it from the concrete with sill plate gasket, or the bottom will rot.
@NickFerry Жыл бұрын
That’s a really good recommendation - I hadn’t thought about it but that may be because I have never noticed any condensate or moisture buildup throughout the seasons in their garage to warrant that logic train - but that’s a really good point - 👊🏼
