One would really only want to use stock roof rack system for occasional light duty as the original well nuts are more than likely worn and if not dried out, thus not safe unless one replaced them. Replacing the well nuts are a simple process. I wish I could post up the part number for the ones I used from NAPA, but they changed the reference numbers.

How are your rain gutters holding up? I looked into getting a roof tent for my 96 XJ but mind didn't have a roof rack at all from the factory. When I saw the gutter brackets I got excited until I started finding posts about them getting destroyed by the mounts. I think one person (On CherokeeForum) had their gutter mount punch a hole through their roof because the mount failed.... it was hard to tell because the photos are long gone.

They are holding up good! I keep the rent on year round and we use it frequently. My Jeep is fairly rust free which im sure plays a part. I think it also helps that there are 3 cross bars to distribute the weight

Hey man, sweet video. I have been searching around trying to find a solution for mounting my RTT on a low profile roof rack and I had came to the same conclusion as you did with these adjustable ladder racks from Amazon. Which one did you go with? I want mine to be as low profile as possible, did you make yours slightly higher just to have room for the mounting hardware on the tent?

Thanks man! I made mine as low as possible, the cross bars are only a little bit above the roof. Theres a link in the description to the exact one🤙🏼
