Mounting a Volkswagen bug onto our k20 swapped Toyota mr2 chassis. Hux Racing mounts were used for the eying swap, stock Honda trans, Gsr axles, Rsx shift linkage, no Toyota body, a roll cage, we widened the VW by 10" and now its time to officially mount it to the chassis. Along with a windshield, rear window custom made to allow gas fill, and several other additions, we made a good amount of progress in this video!

Preston, to make the deck lid very unique you should mount hinges on both sides and open the lid from the middle and have it look like beetle bug wings on both sides when open. It would be different and very cool.

@@GARAGEIdiotS worst idea I ever had was going bankrupt however I learned to skin a Buffalo nickel and pinch a penny so hard it'll cry quarters... I'd fix trash and resell it. Be driving down the road and grab stuff tossed out and fix it. Kids power wheels, I even got a natural gas fire place with the box new that was tossed ($1400 at Lowe's) had a bad over temp sensor ($3 Amazon) sold it after installing the part for $400 cash cost me $3 and 30 minutes. I feel you and trying to learn too

Just an idea for the decklid... Have a look at an Aronson style one. They are fibreglass (don't know if that's an issue for you) but they have a scoop that will allow air to the turbo and the scoop is mostly flat so it would be easier to widen the decklid to fit the car. Car's looking great though!

They make universal round polyurethane mounts as well as sell 2 part polyurethane mix to make your own mounts . I got to say watching you cut that tire up made you live up to your KZbin name . Noone may never see those mounts. But the time and effort it took its no wonder you can't get any videos out . BTW sheet metal shears and snips cut through those tires like butter . Cap screws or button head bolts would dress your windows up too . Rubber faucet washers may come in handy too or sticky foam tape on the bracket it had to be fun putting those washers on . The welded nuts on your window bracket a thread rivet insert would have looked nicer Eastwood or astro pneumatic needs to send you some tools

It's really coming together now.Awesome ! May I suggest cutting a 'Coffee can' for an arch over the air filter? It fits with the roundness, and covers all .A couple inches overhang of the can will look kewl too.The old bugs had a light cover above the license plate, and you've widened...?YOU can see it now too?Weld a couple tabs lower for the plate you take off to Rip The Strip.

The only thing I can say right now is... IT'S AMAIZING!!! Excellent job on this: "Volkswagon-ish" work of art of yours. Oh, if only once you are done with the body, it could be fully hydro dipped in a special tank made by you, (just throwing that out there...)!! lol!! Also, I would find a way to place a couple of hinges somewhere in the rear, so a whole section en of the body opens up, (yeah, like a pac-man), so you can have easy access to service anything on the drive train, with out having to remove the body. I love that the body is fully, (and easily) removable. The sill plate and rubber cushioning mounts Idea is so right for this build!! It is very exciting to see the progress on this very unique project. Keep up the good work.

In the future.... save yourself the deadly smoke of using a grinder on rubber. A circular saw (slowly) or, ideally a table saw is your friend. Be careful, as OSHA does not approve lol. However, do they approve of anything you do? With steel cords..... slow. Without, you can go a tiny bit faster. But, a hell of a lot faster than a grinder.

I did a polycarb rear window on one of my wagons recently, no bolts, just silicone and factory trim and some wedges to align it while it cured. I can punch it now and it just bounces, no signs of coming loose. Looks better than glass from the outside but has some refraction issues and so forth when looking out through it with incident sunlight on a funny angle that glass wouldn't have due to its superior refractive index. Overall, couldn't be happier. I went with the same 4mm thickness as the glass and it's about 55% of the weight or something like that. Also lost rear wiper and other heavy components at the same time. Race wagon you say? I hope so :-D

Building cars takes a lot of really hard work to make every part work with all the other parts I know but, It probably would have been easier ! Go ahead and cut up the rear engine cover its yours and, if some one thought it was worth so much they could have offered you money for it right ? It's looking great keep on going with it !
