Thanks for sharing your build -- I also have a 4-bikes-on-the-roof setup on my E90 BMW OEM rack system. I wanted to add a note that by drilling through those bars you're compromising their tested load carrying capacity. While you may not have run into an issue with normal driving; hard braking on fully loaded setup or sharp turns due to emergency maneuvering may cause bars to break. When loaded with bikes like that, it's not a good idea to reach freeway speeds. Even an unexpected bump or hole on the road could cause momentary increase in weight and cause issues.

Baris Eris, you are correct. And I am just cheap. Looks like you have a nice set up. Cool.

Can we fit 5 or even 6 bikes (30lb/bike, 180lb weight plus hardware minus the front wheels). It may need more support points though.

can we just remove both tyres(to lower centre gravity to avoid swinging) and pkace upside down with handles tighten to roof rack.
@teodelfuego6 жыл бұрын
Abd Aziz Abd Hamid you could do that, but you may have problems with hydraulic brakes, especially if the brake levers get depressed while upside down. This is particularly true with the earlier hydraulic systems.
