Oh god, what a dream solution! All this soft luggage shit is a nightmare and not secure. This is excellent!

Insurance legalites in UK would make it void. HAs to be fixed at the genuine points on the bike. ZZR1400 options are Givi or sw moteck or OEM, which is what I have on my gen 1. Looks good and doesnt spoil the lines as once the rak and box are off on quick release it looks good.

I just thought I'd pop in and say thanks for the idea. I mounted a hard box like you did to my Kawi and it works great. I only use it when commuting, so yeah it's not pretty, but as you said it's functionality that's the goal. I commute almost 100 miles round trip to work so it's great to be able to keep an extra change of socks, gloves, rain gear, etc and still be able to stop at the store on the way home for beer. Ha ha.

It all depends on you, you'll have to give it a try and see if you're able to take the long rides. Personally, I've ridden this bike for 18 hours on end. Although tiring it was fun. I still do 8 hour rides every weekend, so your 3-4 hour ride time is realistic.

Awesome! That's the same thing I did! Lol I thought I was so original haha. I used a race cowl and modified it to fit the rack. Nice job!!

Great review i am looking for different type of bags/cases and this is very smart with buying a secondary seat to use for drilling the holes for mount. Thanks for doing this :)

I did something similar as well and I have a video of it too, riding more than 200km/h without any issue.

I mounted my Givi hard case to a RiceRocketRack, which is made of aluminum. I've had this setup for 6 years and it's been on dozens of trips. The Rickrocketrack setup isn't the best looking in the world, but it adds addtional mounting eyelets for bungie cords resulting in a much more diverse setup. Google RiceRocketRacks to view their product and you'll see what I mean. Tom

I think I'd want more than four bolts holding it on with just regular flanged nuts. I'd go for some either serious washers or some sort of metal strips.

It's been 9 years already, so how was it? Was this setup dependable and reliable all these years?

I've done something similar with my street triple. But of leftgright wobble to it, any ideas. Or do you imagine it's sturdy enough? Wobble just a psychological concern more than mechanical?

Mounted a generic box with universal rack to a spare seat. The rack bolts very solid to the seat but when I attach the box there is a little play rocking it side to side. I’m worried it may break at speed over time.

I think you have just saved my life! I was having such a hard time trying to find a luggage rack for my K3 Suzuki SV650. The bonus is that you can quickly and easily change the seat and have your pillion seat back for passenger, or if you're simply going for a ride and want the cool factor back. No messing removing rack systems. Question: Have you had any trouble at high speeds? Is the seat clamp device strong enough to load the box with heavy items? ie camping materials, stoves, water, metal items? I used to load 15Kg in my old bike, but it was a Vara 125 mini touring bike. I miss the load carrying space so much. I want to do some touring on the SV and travel to other countries on it also. Many thanks for your reply in advance. Safe riding Bro...from the UK.

Great idea,will try to do the same. But with a cowl rather than a seat

Hey man nice innovation. Did you have to shave the foam off the rear seat to give the givi base plate a more stable mount?

Very Interesting. You have to let me know when you get back out on the street how it feels? It kinda looks like it would act like a sail since the bike is aerodynamic shaped to cut through the wind and it looks huge on your bike.

I just put an elastic net thats tucked under the back seat. But this is pretty neat tho. I want something to attatch 2 fuel canisters but not sure how to do so.
@sirobb12 жыл бұрын
@WildBill1066 I wouldn't have thought the box would have any sort of sail effect as the rider sat in front of it would be taking the majority of the wind blast.

Fantastic video brother... just when I thought I would be stuck with soft luggage from Oxford. One Question though, with the passenger seat's base being hard plastic, won't this pose any problems in terms of the top box being sturdy during high speed rides being heavy and all?
@joshdevine587410 жыл бұрын
I have a question. Couldn't you have done this on a plastic seat cowl?

@letsemailmark Yes, I've ridden with it a few times and it holds up very well. I think I had up to 40 pounds in there.

@ennistymonjoe I had the Ventura rack and I did not like it at all. It didn't work well with my aftermarket exhaust cuz it interfered with the mid pipe. and the 2 mounting rods look out of place on the bike.

How far can you comfortably ride on a 600cc supersport? I'm hoping to do weekend trips - no more than 3-4 hours of seat time at a time. Is that realistic?

I kind of feel that with a sport bike there are a few sacrifices that just should be made. Though. I know its useful but it takes away from the bikes looks for sure.
@emko75 жыл бұрын
That's why this design is useful, because you can easily swap it back to the regular passenger seat whenever you feel like
