Jon Dufresne had the setup that set off the light bulb for me. The spot where the gun actually clears the holster on the draw is even with the belt, and it's not sticking way out from his side. I've found that to be the sweet spot with kydex holsters for an unencumbered draw where you don't have to lean to the side to get the gun out. That attachment is the Safariland 6072UBL, which is intended to make the lower mounting holes of Safariland duty holsters ride high. However, because he mounted his QLS on the "concealment" configuration holes of the holster that are higher up towards the opening , it's riding in a perfect spot. It would be even better with zip ties or the RDR adapter that makes the belt slot 1.75" instead of 2.25". I think he wins for smartest holster setup out of all 4 guys. I'm subscribing now to the Kinetic Consulting KZbin channel because he seems to have well thought out ideas.
@Pezzeman6 жыл бұрын
The QLS also does a good job of getting the pistol a little further out from your leg as opposed to directly screwing the holster to the mid/low ride UBL, which also helps with clearing thicker belts and other cool guy stuff.

I've got a warning for you: do NOT carry a pistol on your side with armor if there is any risk at all of falling into deep water. It will ABSOLUTELY prevent you from escaping your body armor in time to prevent drowning. Normally the procedure if that happens is you reach up and release the shoulder straps, allowing the armor to fall away. If you have a pistol on your side, it will catch the armor and prevent it from sliding down your legs, and drag you down with it. In those situations, opt for pistol on the carrier, even if it's less convenient.

Thanks so much for the post, This is the next major item of kit I have to focus on replacing and employing. I just did Fighting Pistol and Fighting Rifle with James and Tac Response while they were here in OR, and I did the classes with a BHI Serpa on a drop and offset system they make. The holster was broken, not as in dematerialized, but broken functionally. I felt myself having to fight a bundle of my war belt material just to get my hand to fully and properly grip my Glock. Any ounce of hesitation in a gun fight will get you killed, be it mental or in the case of my Serpa physical. So Safari land here I come!

In my opinion Kore makes the Best Battle Belt period. Okay, so to give some background I have been law enforcement for the last 8 years and have been shooting competition for the last 13. Throughout competition I have run probably 4 or 5 belts. While working as a sheriffs deputy I have used 7 total belt systems. I have run a leather safariland, a pleather bianchi, a nylon bianchi, a G-code operator, a ronin senshi, a 5.11 garrison, and finally this. Right away I was impressed with the system of adjustment while wearing the belt, this has been HUGE while working patrol and being in and out of cars as well as a firearms instructor where at times I will run a lot more equipment on my belt (this typically made my belt feel much tighter due to the spacing created between the belts) being able to adjust that in seconds has been freaking amazing! This is by far my favorite duty belt I have ever worn. It wins in comfort, adjustability, firmness, modularity… literally everything I can think of. My big question was if it would run Tek-Lok attachments due to its thickness and it runs them perfectly. It also fits esstac kiwi gap pouches perfectly and works with high speed gear mole pouches. This thing should be triple the price for what you are getting. I will be purchasing more of these for my training partners and likely outfitting our SWAT team with them as well. Seriously, don’t hesitate if you are looking into this belt system, it is fantastic!

They will not sell you the holster as a stand alone item. Why in the ever loving fuck do they build and tout a modular system if you can't buy the exact components that you need? Why do I have to buy yet another belt mount when I already have two? I like the quality of their stuff but it's stupidity like this that makes me switch to a competitor if there is another option.
@AdamChristopherson6 жыл бұрын
John Pitcher when you bent the mount were you able to get it straight vertical or did you have to bend it so much the handle cants inward toward your hip? Were you able to try it with armor to see if the draw becomes obstructed? I thought about modifying the angle on my Safariland but it already sits so tight to my hip it hits armor. Probably end up buying a different model soon.

Hi @@AdamChristopherson Full disclosure, I work full time as a tactical Instructor. I also think it's important to include that I am 5'10, 170 lbs. Physically fit. I find that a lot of people recommend, or complain about the fit of things when they are part of the problem themselves. If you know what I mean. I mostly use a battle belt with a drop down mount. When needed, I also wear a duty belt with a medium drop. I have modified both of the mounts with the heat gun. I wear armour with both setups and have no issues. The key is, I also use a QLS with my holsters. That provides a little more clearance outward. Hope that helps.

Ok, I carry on a drop leg thigh platform, fo a couple reasons. One, I prefer to use a flap holster to protect my gun from all manner of things like a ground crawl, or having to bust brush, and yes, those are real world scenarios you won't see on any of the play shooting setups, where it's all for points and speed. I recall once I got on my gear and was out in the woods on private land belonging a pulpwood corporation, it was about three hundred or so "old growth forest", by that I mean, it was last cut in the later years of the 19th century . A great area for getting out and just communing with nature. So, I got on my gear and I head out and I pass a couple other guys getting ready to head out and he asks me about my gear and we get to talking a bit. Then the younger guy notices I have a thigh rig with a flap holster. and he asks, a bit smug I might add, "Well, how you gonna out draw anyone with that old holster? You need a good tactical holster." mind you he was carrying a SERPA holster. Now I should say. While I believe the greatest thigh platform in the world is the SERPA drop leg platform, by the same token the SERPA holster is an abortion of monumental proportions. I cannot for the life of me believe the same engineers who came up with the thigh rig also came up with this nightmare at the same time. I had to make my own holster to mount onto my thigh rig and I love it. No, if I pretend I'm old Matt Dillon and need to fast draw, then one, I'm in the wrong place, and two, if you're about to get into the deep stuff you usually know ahead of time. I looked at the younger fellow and asked, "Tell me friend, you a cop, maybe a Wildlife Officer?" He said, "Well, no I ain't." "This ain't the Dodge City, and neither one of us are Matt Dillon"........he didn't know who that was. And as he was making fun of my flap holster before he could gasp I snatched out my Mossberg Shockwave, and I'm pretty sure if I'd have checked we'd have seen some skid marks in his BVDs. The other guy burst out laughing. There really is no "right" or "wrong" way to carry your pistol, it's a function of your build, your loadout and gear placement, for what you are doing.

you raise a good point - the fact that if i even have a drop leg platform on in the first place that usually means the pistol is my secondary weapon flap holster is perfectly adequate for a secondary weapon - I rather my back up weapon be covered and safe from rain,sand,etc than 'super quick deployable'

So what I’m hearing is “this holster fits my leg better than this one”. 🤔.... 😆
