@@dhpa2601 Guarantee the dentist won’t say anything about flossing. He’s completely right - it’s not really a thing here in Britain. Like, sure, it’s probably used to treat certain issues that pop up and some people probably do it regularly, but unless there’s a reason for it dentists won’t insist you have to floss in the same way that you have to brush your teeth. Fun fact though - the average teeth lost in the UK is 6.97, while in America it’s 7.31, (least, the last time the information was gathered, there’s still articles about it from 2015 if you want to look it up yourself) so evidently it’s not quite as important as Americans think. Perhaps you guys ought to do something about your sugar intake instead before you get on other people’s cases about not flossing at the very least.

I have a friend who is exactly like Mouse. Constantly having to nag at her to take care of her health, to prevent things from getting worse, and to take her own pain seriously. She literally almost died from covid, and the only way I could convince her to take it easy and stop doing shit that was going to make it worse was to tell her that if she didn't take it easy that I was going to join her in her quarantine to make her stop. She is the most mature person I know, but when it comes to her health it's like coaching a toddler.

I mean.... It's permanent & painful hand disability vs a British guy having bad dental habits (the stereotype exists for a reason)... Of course Connor got clowned on... it's far less serious than what's happening with Mouse. Hell, I doubt Mouse is doing everything she can to take care of the carpal tunnel. You can't just take a break and buy a crappy ball mouse and it's all of a sudden all good. You need to change your ergonomics, start stretching/exercising the wrist and fingers, use a brace, actually talk to an orthopedic doctor (not just your regular physician), and learn to take breaks when the pain/tingling starts kicking in.... Especially the last one, worst habit you could ever have is powering though the pain. The pain is there for a reason, it says stop.

@@Harry-cj3yu No idea but I've also heard from dentists that flossing is actually bad because it shoves the bacteria in the gums. There's a way to do it right but they say most people do it wrong and the sawing motion damages the gums so at this point I don't know if flossing is good or bad.

I generally have gone by what my hygienist reccomended as she was the one inspecting my face bones every 6 months or so. But that's certainly not to say that advice should be considered universal, human bodies are weird at the best of times and seem to not like actong as a homogeneous group.

Sounds like southern hospitality fights. Less serious, but just as lony lasting. Neighbor hired someone to trim a tree off the shared fence with the other neighbor. Neighbor 2 calls neighbor 1 a son-of-a-bitch for not asking him to do it since that's what neighbors do. Neighbor 2 cut neighbor 1's grass while he was gone to work instead. Neighbor 1 then replaced neighbor 2's leaky hose while he was at work. I don't think they've talked to each other for months. I suppose that after having so many health problems for so much of her life, she's developed a cavalier attitude towards her own health- if it already sucks, why try. Learned helplessness. I don't have chronic physical illnesses but I do have chronic mental illness I developed as a very young child and you can definitely slip into that mindset of "why bother, if it'll never go away".

I know the lady that handles the fish in my local supermarket and had to completely stop working due carpal tunnel for months and got surgery. I draw a lot and daily, and the minute I feel the wrist being a bit iffy I try to take 1-2 days of break (If feels severe then a week) and just watch movies or shows for that time. So yeah, take care the moment your hands act weird. Also do hand/wrist stretches.

Connor is right about the flossing thing, it's very country dependent. In France even the dentists won't recommand you flossing if you don't bring up the subject yourself. It's just not a thing in at least half of european countries.

They do it when you're a baby because the circumcised skin is a good source of stem cells. A lot of guys don't even know they were circumcised, including me until I found out what mine would look like if it was uncircumcised.

The difference between carpal tunnel and not flossing is, you don’t have to floss as long as you brush your teeth, whereas Carpal tunnel is gonna mess you up worse than, Connor is right, fight me.

to be fair, she has a chronic illness, which kinda fucks up your pain tolerance, and its also hard to pull back because you just want to keep doing your regular stuff and not need to be delicate or treated differently because of your illness. It can fuck with how you view pain/physical setbacks. But at the same time, wear the brace (make it cute with stickers) and overcome; don't ever force yourself to go through the pain.

My mom used to have her fingers go numb, too. She ended up needing spinal surgery, and then she had to have another spinal surgery when it started happening on the other side. She was scheduled for one more, but ended up having a stroke & an aneurysm & passing away before she could have it. So Mousey, please take better care of yourself. We all love you & would hate to see something bad happen to you.

there is a very simple three step hand exercise you can do daily to alleviate cramping and carpal tunnel. Stretch the hand out in front of you with fingers separated. Then make claws like a cat would as you crunch them downward. Then fold the fingers into a balled fist, return to starting spread position. Repeat.
