I've been doing several of you facial exercises off and on for several years, after I was diagnosed with Ataxia in 2020. I'm still not speaking well but I can tell it helps. Sometimes I get tired and take a break. Thank you so much for being here for us who need you. My insurance doesn't pay everything for me to have these exercises .

Betty, thanks so much for sharing your story and experience. I’m glad to hear these videos have been a useful resource for you, especially with insurance limitations. Comments like yours keep me motivated to keep making videos. So thank you. Wishing you the best in your speech journey.

Your content on KZbin truly exemplifies the essence of content creation. May you and everyone who shares their knowledge and expertise with others be blessed with long and healthy lives. I'm sharing my personal experience because someone else might be facing a similar issue and my experience could offer some relief. Or perhaps those who have fully recovered can provide me with additional advice. I've had braces on the back of my front teeth for several years. My orthodontist refuses to remove them, claiming that I have a tongue thrusting problem and there's nothing he can do. I've had to rely on exercises to stop my tongue from pushing against my teeth. In addition to myofunctional therapy exercises (especially the tongue-thrusting exercise), Kassandra's three videos, "Lip Protrusion Exercise for Speech and Oral Motor Function," "Mouth & Cheek Exercise," and "Mouth & Cheek Exercise" have been incredibly helpful.

This is really hard for me! When I tried it in the mirror, I can barely go to the side at all without my jaw also moving to the side. I'm really excited, because it seems like my system just got a whole lot of new information.

Yes, it is challenging to isolate and not dominate with jaw movement. Glad the mirror is helpful and that you liked it! Keep me posted!

What is it called when you talk out of one side of the mouth? What video do you suggest to fix it.
@SpeechSecrets2 ай бұрын
There is no specific name I am aware of for this. Sometimes a diagnosis such as Bell's palsy will cause individuals to speak out of one side of their mouth. Without a neurologic cause or paralysis, using a mirror for bio feedback to see if one can make speech more symmetrical volitionally may be a strategy to try.

I can't do this on right side. Any idea why

I have observed some individuals without neurological deficit have some asymmetry when doing this exercise. But I can't comment on your case specifically.

I am using my diaphragm when breathing. I just can't get my voice out without coughing. It sometimes sounds like trying to start a car.

Oof that sounds uncomfortable! Hoping you’re getting the support you need for this 🙌

@@SpeechSecrets no one knows what the problem is. I've had every test there is for my voice. Drs say good news, I'm thinking what's wrong and they say everything looks good. My tests come back fine. Im thinking that piece but by my left vocal chord should be removed. Did I tell you about that?

@@misterbowers5995 have you had an evaluation by a chiropractor or Feldenkrais practitioner to see whether all of your ribs and each part of your spine are being mobilized when you breathe?
