Knowing that neither of you are fluent Japanese speakers I really admire how you two just forge ahead. Many, many years ago there was very popular song entitled:’ I was born to wonder’. I think that could be say about you. You both have a beautiful spirit. PS:( Don’t be afraid to try the eel at the ramen bar. It’s fully cooked with a teriyaki glaze) 😋

Aw What a treaty those Ramen dishes !! Guys, if you still are in Hakodate, don't miss the Goryokaku Castle compound, with an incredible moat. Pity you weren't there at the end of march or beginings of april, when SAKURA takes place, that is, the blossoming of the beatiful cherry trees. Even though, it is a wonderful place to wander and eventually also have a picnic.

Thanks for the recommendation! We were staying just a few blocks away from Goryokaku Park so we enjoyed some nice walks there. 😊

I don’t know if you already found out. But if you’re served non sweetened iced tea, there should be clear sweetener called ‘gum syrup’ in small plastic containers or in milk pitchers somewhere. You can also get choice of milk or lemon/lemon juice.

Looks great! We would love to go there sometimes. Oh, my husband's son couple are coming here in Feb. so we will recommend them to go to Hokkaido?! And Sam and Audrey, please visit Shikoku-Island in the future as we are moving there💗 Kagawa prefecture is the smallest prefecture in Japan and it is famous for Udon and Chicken.

When you guys get back here, we need to think about if a clown hamburger stand would be a hit in the VGB community. ( not sure about the circus clown thing but surely a solid burger and fries would be a hit) ! ESPECIALLY during the siesta shutdown hours 😂

Interesting food choices and restaurant styles. Hakodate is Halifax's twin city. One of their malls used to have a replica Halifax Town Clock in their centre court but I don't know if it is still. I don't think twin city thing really caught on.

Your challenges always excite me! The typical seafood you can eat in Hokkaido is closer to the source and fresher than that in Tokyo. If you like Japanese seafood, we recommend ordering one of the recommended menu items at a restaurant in Hokkaido. This is also more valuable than eating at a restaurant in Tokyo!

"Yondaime" means "the 4th generation" and that is how long the business has been in existence. Not that you mentioned, the obvious Chinese influence at Lucky Pierrot such as the Chinese Chicken Burger and sesame balls stems from the fact that its founder is of Chinese descent.

Japan will never give you an overly salty food. They know it's bad for your heart. They also make food as close to its natural form (not overcooked) so it doesn't strip away the vitamins. So it nourishes your body not punishes your body.
