You really should not use the RG6 from those DIY home improvement stores cause that stuff is intended mainly for antenna feedline and cable TV, no so much for DOCSIS type data connections. Of course the guy at the store will tell you it is fine, that's because they are told to sale products whether it is the correct thing or close enough. The connectors have high failure rates and are more prone to corrosion and the jacket cracks if used outside. What you should have used in that crawl space that looks to be quite damp, is the direct burial RG6-U which is typically orange, though it does come in black as well but you know what it is with the orange stuff.. It has that protective goo inside the jacket to prevent water ingress and corrosion. The connectors for it are the compression type (Black ring) and require the tool to put them on with but in the end it is 100% worth it. You also want to avoid sharp bends, over stretching the cable and NEVER NEVER create loops. If yo9u have extra either cut it off and dress the line to length with cable management, or just wad it up and hide it away someplace.

Very helpful, and exactly the video I was looking for. I would have bought a lottery ticket after seeing the tension on that cable, I have never been that lucky😂

Definitely helped me! I had my modem in my living room but I wanted it in my bedroom which is upstairs, but the coax wasn’t working and in my garage I found the incoming cable with a splitter on it and only 1 of the 2 coax cables hooked up so I’m assuming I just have to hook the other one up

@jakee46752 жыл бұрын
You definitely could! If the room you’re wanting to put it in is on the outside of the house, I’d suggest digging a small little trench and running the cable around outside and drilling through the wall once you get where you need to be

Thanks for the video. I’m actually trying to research to help my in-laws fix their internet. They are paying for cable internet that is supposed to be 100+ MBPS and getting like 5-10 MBPS. The cable company keeps telling them the issue must be with the coax wiring in their house, which is their responsibility and not the cable company. However, I can find almost no resources online about replacing the in-house coax up to the box. This is the closest thing I’ve found. While you did it for a different reason, it serves the same purpose of running new coax. This is at least a step in the right direction…

Glad it could help out. That's strange that they won't run new coax for them. Definitely shouldn't be that severe of a speed drop just from coax quality though? I actually had our company tell me something similar and after they ran a new cable I might've had an increase of 5 mbps max.

You may already have fixed this issue, but it could also be the cable modem and/or wireless router. Cable modems get old and stop working as well as they did initially. If the provider refuses to fix the provided cable modem that your in-laws almost most certainly pay for, it might make sense to buy one themselves that is supported by the cable company. The wireless routers also go bad over time, and the slow speeds could be related to that. It will take some troubleshooting to determine what is the actual problem. The most straightforward fixes are replacing the cable modem with the cable company and/or wireless router because you can always return those products if it's not that.

Is there a dual splitter they sell so I can have two separate connections in the home?

Hello, I have a question: I live in a small apartment behind my landlords larger house. He has a Spectrum cable box, modem, and wifi router towards the front of his house, (There's an additional Spectrum cable box in my bedroom for my TV, on his same account). I use his wifi signal to connect my bedroom laptop to the Internet, but the signal is very weak, even with an extender I purchased and connected. So my question is this: would it be as simple as just splitting the coaxil cable that goes into my cable box and connecting a modem for a legitimate strong Internet signal which I can run to my laptop with an Ethernet cable? Thank you.

Just wanna say wifi extenders on extend the signal they get say they receive 1 bar they'll only extend the 1 bar. Just in future.

You’re probably thinking of the terminal “Tap” location at street level, or in apartment complex utility rooms. That SDU box becomes your SDU box the second it’s mounted to your house. Tampering with it can be deadly if not checked with a voltage detector. Assume all cables are live even if they are low voltage.
