Wow! You explain things in such a way that those of us who are not physical therapists can understand. That is greatly appreciated!

I'll have to look for one of those canes. Sounds like it would help me to get to those knots I can't reach. Thanks !!!

Hello from Ukraine! Thanks for your great videos, they are of immense help for my neck issues. I have a question - can you recommend a set of exercises for the mid-back spondylosis? Thanks!
@MovementFunction

Hello Viktoriya Bretush in Ukraine! I'm very glad my videos are helping your neck! For thoracic spine spondylosis, try the exercises in these videos, moving slowly and gently, as tolerated. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooiXnIN3rampqa8, kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGTNpoiNbdiLisU, kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5uwip-VeZejftE. The exercises in my breathing series may be very helpful for your neck and mid-back as well. I wish you all the very best!

I've had that very same cane for a couple years and never quite knew how to use it. Thanks so much for the visual demonstration. I suffer severely from Occipital headaches. I had surgery a year ago for a severed AC Rotator Cuff tendon, and a partially shredded bicepts. Since the damage to my shoulder, is when it seems I have gotten these types of headaches. The doctors want to do a nerve block shot and I don't want a shot in my neck. I feel the pain coming from the upper trapezius and extends all the way up the side of my neck to my ear, also my shoulder is very sore. Can you recommend a good technique to use with the cane for this.? Thanks you

The cane is great to use in the upper trapezius but I wouldn't recommend using it any higher, including in the suboccipital region. I recommend using your fingers or a tennis ball for suboccipital release. Here is one video showing release techniques with just fingertips: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaardaCEbZh7jJY. And in this video, I show release techniques with a tennis ball. For the suboccipitals, place two tennis balls in a sock and tie the end of the sock to keep the balls next to each other. Lying on your back, place a rolled up towel at the bottom of your neck, just above your shoulders. Then place the tennis balls under the base of your skull at the top of your neck. Very gently, do a chin to chest rolling motion to move the tennis balls up and down on the suboccipital muscles. The purpose of the rolled up towel is simply to keep the balls at the top of your neck. I hope this makes sense and is helpful for you!

While I am sure the cane device has its place, nothing beats using a baseball. Lay the baseball on the floor and roll over it at the trigger points. Relieves the pressure almost instantly. You will find that you will have to adjust your weight against the baseball as you go to get used to this method.

Would you recommend any scaption or other arm movement while releasing? Thanks!
@MovementFunction
@MovementFunction 9 ай бұрын
James, yes, scaption may be helpful while applying pressure to release the trigger points. Generally, any movement that first shortens the tissue and then lengthens it is helpful. It sounds corny, but truly listen to your body for what movement, or movements, help your body release the trigger points.

how often can you do these daily
@MovementFunction
@MovementFunction Жыл бұрын
I suggest only once a day because the tissue can become quite tender. If you feel your tissue could tolerate more, try a second session spaced far apart from the first session. Also, if you want more, you might vary the pressure applied, time spent in each session and number of sessions per day to find the best recipe for you.

She should call them therapy canes. Shes using Theracane like how people are using Kleenex for all tissue paper. Not all therapy canes are equal. I find actual Theracanes are the best bc of how stiff they are.
