I can’t explain what a relief it is to see someone so educated on hyper mobility and how it affects more than just the joints. A hyper mobile body often times doesn’t process feedback from its environment the way it should resulting in us overstretching because we don’t know what a stretch feels like until it’s uncomfortable, not knowing what a supported joint feels like, unconditioned and/or overdeveloped muscles as a result of compensating, improper muscle recruitment…the list just doesn’t seem stop. Seeing someone truly understand connective tissues and how they communicate with our nervous systems almost makes me cry happy tears! I went from being a competitive power lifter, pole dance instructor, avid roller skater, and a happy (pain free) massage therapist to an over cooked Angel hair noodle in about 10 years time. I don’t feel stretchy and supple anymore, I *feel* unstable, wobbly, weak, and delicate. It’s a very confusing and defeating experience. You make it easier to KNOW that it isn’t going to be like this forever! Thank you SO much 🤘🏻

Problem is with most hypermobile ppl is that we don't know where the end of motion is normally....because our normal range of motion is apparently not the 'normal range'. Drs always say 'stay in the normal range'...but we don't know where we are supposed to be and where we aren't. Have you done a vid how to figure this out?

I think he’s saying to listen to your own bodies cues such as pain, or tension beginning, to identify your own “safe range”. I’m hearing him say “stay in the range that is less than what you can do” don’t go to the edge, stop before the edge, stay only in the safe zone.

The best advice I got from a physio on this was to pretend I was having to carry a tray of drinks on whatever muscle I'm working on. So if shoulders or arms, assume I'm carrying a tray in my hand or on my shoulder. When on all fours doing core/back/leg exercises, assume I'm carrying a tray on my back. It also helped to put a tennis ball on my back and not let it fall off 😅 Idk if I'm explaining that well! Its worth watching a few videos about "good form" on KZbin, because you're right, it's so hard for us to know what we're supposed to be doing! 😅

Tip 3 reminds me of when i went rock climbing. Had to hang off just one arm and had to really focus my brain to let my shoulder just hang instead of trying to use my chest and arm muscles to keep me up

Andrew I can’t even tell you how delighted I am to find you. It’s like you jumped into my brain and told me everything I needed for a pep talk. I’m only 4 months confirmed HEds and battling with shifting hormones (perimenopusal age and 4 years post partum!) I’m off to study every one of your videos and to work on my patience. Thank you again x

I’m 42 and recently went through a really stressful and traumatic 3 years with family business. I’ve learned a lot about myself through the process so that’s somethin 😂 But wow I used to feel so nimble and energetic but now I fit more the anxious/introvert profile, and I’m one sore jenga block. Try not to find the pain, back up a little and retrain the brain… that one is huge for me! THANK YOU!!

10:40 Wow haha this is the same approach I work with my coachees when we’re learning music and to unlearn the baggage around our innate musicality… it never occurred to me to apply this (it works!) to my own body movement. Cannot thank you enough for this video & your approach generally. I looked up ur website and ur too far away but I’m considering ur online program. If anyone reading this comment would also like to get it and stay in touch about our progress, for community and support around it, please reach out And if anyone reading this comment happens to know anyone in the Oakland/Berkeley area, I’m 42 and very sore with GJHS and need help. Musician would cant sit at the piano or play guitar for longer than 20min is a sad musician Cheers to collective care!! 🤓🎸⚖️

I am hypermobile. My experience has been the opposite of what you describe in tip 1 and tip 2. If I don't stretch my muscles to end ranges they just get stiff and sore and gunked up further. I had for years tried what you advise...not going to end ranges of motion... and this resulted in knots in the unused muscle ranges, expecially my deltoids. The only way I got relief was by systematically stretching the full range of motion. Perhaps this works for some people but for me it is exactly the opposite of what relieved my pain.

Take a look at Gil Hedley's Fuzz speech video, about fascia and what happens when you don't use it regularly. How do you square his video about fascia with your advice not to use the full range of motion? They seem contradictory.

There's a difference between stretching a given muscle to its limit and stretching a joint out of shape. I have found I need to stretch in various position to get each muscle stretched without overstretching joints. Its definitely an art.
@Movementreborn

That’s exactly what I’m talking about and glad you figured it out, noticing the difference between moving muscles vs stretching ligaments. Awareness is most important and you most likely know the difference between the two. Unfortunately with most hyper mobile people, the awareness is not there yet hence they need to start with doing less to achieve more. I’m very familiar with Gil Hedleys work and been to his workshops. You most likely have the capacity and may benefit from the FRC system I mentioned in the video. They’re great at teaching you how to move each joint in their end range. Keep it up!
