Think of it from her position. She signed on to love him and take care of him in the short time he had left. But he lived on. And suddenly all her best years were spent being a carer and parent without anyone to take care of her. She had no background or expertise in it, she had to grapple with the role all by herself. In the end they both needed different things, and for her part she needed to be in a relationship where she was an equal, a lover, not a carer. It's bitter sweet, because she did love Stephen. But there was no romantic love left in their relationship.

she lasted a lot longer than most would in her situation. I also loved how Elaine was a masterful professional & knew how to make Stephen laugh!

The moment she was saying: “I have loved you ...”, implies that she doesn’t love him the same way she used to. Most likely due to being drained of her energy (her life & youth are passing by, she has 3 kids to raise, she’s managing the household, prepares the food & nurses her husband)... I mean, the second half of the movie I was crying, like every 30 seconds. Also the actor & actress masterfully portrayed the intended emotion & most importantly, they made me believe it.

being a care taker full time is no joke. I helped out my family when they fell ill & the waking up in the mid of the night to help them to rest room / toilet etc. - the foul odors / lack of sleep it's exhausting

I feel like you didn't realize the reason they split up haha. They both had needs and had grown to love other people that fit within their circumstances. Stephen asked Elaine because he loved her as well, and they both understood that Jane needed a normal husband, while Stephen needed someone who could handle (and even enjoyed doing so). They still cared for each other deeply, and nothing can replace the person who you created children with, but they had to move on from each other.

I definitely didn't. I can kind of see it now, but it's still just kind of, and when I watched the film originally it went right over my head. I don't always understand people in movies, especially relationships. I need a bigger picture to get it and if it's not the focus of the film then I usually don't get it.

Thank you for not merely reacting to the same twenty movies that most reactors do. It's nice to see some original thinking.

Physists haven't been able to come up with the unifying equation mentioned in the movie YET, but there are some equations with similar ideas that do exist.
