These poor girls and especially Daisy seemed doomed from the start. The hospital didn't help Daisy in the slightest. If anything, she was made worse. Her father waltzed right in there and kept abusing her. No one helped and then they let her out where she was completely at his mercy. Lisa brutally exposed all of that. She destroyed what little sanity Daisy had left. The humiliation and horror that people knew about the abuse but didn't help. Jesus christ, that's heartbreaking.

I have a sociopathic family member who I am close to and Angelina is spot on with those micro expression smiles when she know that she is breaking her and loves being able to do it. Scary, the hairs on the back of my neck stick straight up. Brittney deserved way more credit for her acting talent. She was so subtle that you can’t tell it’s acting. Even Angelina and Winona if you pay close attention you can see it (though barely) but Brittany looks like she really is this character. It’s so frustrating that she didn’t get more leads. She had so much talent and I just don’t get why she wasn’t a lead!!

I think Daisy always knew she was a victim and that the relationship with her father was wrong. But Lisa’s words brought her to the edge, because Lisa was correct in her point of changing the scenery, but the reality remained regardless. I think Daisy was so far into the cycle of abuse, that she felt if she rejected her father, she would have no one, so she felt it was better to commit suicide. It’s a real shame, because I feel with proper support, Daisy would have been on a real path to recovery.

I think it was when Lisa said, “You LIKE being Mrs Randone.”? That was the conflict in Daisys’ thinking: the guilt, the shame, because she became a willing participant now that she was grown up. Even though she was still a victim; she may have developed a narcissistic personality disorder and I think Lisa hated her false appearance of having it all and acting better than everyone else-when she clearly was not!

It wasn’t the truth. It was Daisy’s deepest fear, but it wasn’t the truth. Lisa identified the absolute deepest dread that an abuse victim suffers, the inner doubt that maybe because they haven’t reported it, because they don’t fight back, because they feel conflicted, because they love their father, that they may secretly like the abuse. It’s not true and it’s never true. Abuse victims never enjoy abuse. They may have certain instinctual reactions or self preservation behaviors that may suggest it to the uneducated, but that’s why the uneducated should stop pretending to be psychologists

There’s a lot of weird comments here about “tough love” and Lisa speaking “the truth”. Lisa by her own words “enjoys pushing people’s buttons.” There’s nothing truthful in her words, she’s only confirming Daisy’s deepest fear in retaliation to Daisy making her feel inferior. There are no groomed assault victims who enjoy their abuse, Daisy plays at normalcy as a form of self-delusion because the horror of her abuse is unbearable, not because she secretly likes it.

You're right! The horror of abuse is unbearable! Innocence is stolen from you and everything about love is perverted and disfigured! I remember reading in some comment here about Daisy turning her toys on her back during the abuse, with the intention of preserving their innocence! It broke me! It sure was a fatal stab to her heart when Lisa said she liked it! It's as if at that moment she could no longer have any hope and, finally, she was consumed by all this horror!

This pretty much breaks down people in real life. Some people go through traumatic things and decide to try to heal , move on and be kind to others and some people go through traumatic things and decide to spread their anger and trauma throughout the world. Sometimes these people are so envious of the people that went through trauma that are deciding to heal that they’ll try to get in their heads to make them feel as low as they do. We’ve all seen children do this to other children, but there are some immature adults who continue to do this throughout the rest of their lives.

@annwethenorth Face acting is a term used to describe when actors focus on their face instead of engaging with a character's emotions to present themselves in a headshot or during a performance. For example, an actor might use facial expressions to convey a character's emotions instead of finding those emotions within themselves. For example, eye rolling used to be considered face acting (depending where u live my drama teacher would use that term) because it's showing annoyance on the fact, not actually acting the annoyance out in body language. Plus, they made that comment six years ago, when face acting was a way to describe that before tiktok was even made.

I wanted to cry at this scene. The look on Brittney Murphy's face just showed that she "broke". She realized that she wasn't better and Angie just opened up her demons; she was trying so hard to ignore and keep closed. Especially, knowing that her dad now had full access to her.

Brittney was so amazing as an actress. In this scene, you can see Daisy give up. Just the look in her eyes as she's standing on the stairs. She was done with it all. Lisa destroyed her. Heartbreaking scene. Rest easy, Brittney. You're missed. ❤

that shot at 2:24 is an incredible detail foreshadowing Daisy’s death - it looks like she is ascending the stairs towards a white glow (like dying and entering heaven)

This may very well be the best piece of acting that I’ve ever seen on film on the part of Angelina and Brittany aMurpby. You can see in her eyes the exact moment that Lisa decides she’s going to destroy Daisy. You can literally SEE her taking off her person suit and no longer bother pretending to be a human being anymore--because in that moment Lisa knows that Daisy will never be alive to talk about what she does. Watching DAISY however made my blood run cold, though. Jesus christ. The look on her face as she atares at Lisa in blank incomprehension like a little child confronted with a monster is horrific. You could almost hear the snap of her soul and then it just-left her body. I didn’t even know acting that out was even possible.

This was the 60s and also, like Lisa said, Daisy liked it. Im sure they had enough time alone with the patients and doctors and therapists for Daisy to say something, but if her weight is restored and her ED behaviour is cured and shes doing mentally, physically and emotionally fine but STILL hasnt found the words to say something about her dad, they wouldnt have much choice but to let her go

What Daisy doesn't realize is that Lisa is doing this because she's insanely jealous of her. Lisa has to pretend to feel free to be able to cope somewhat with the fact that her parents dumped her at that hospital, and apparently don't care about her. Even when she runs away, she finds a way to get caught. Like Susanna said, she needs the place to feel alive, and noticed, and validated. It's hard for Lisa to accept that, in many ways, even the sad circumstances of Daisy's life are better than hers. The breaking point is the money for the pancakes. The combination of how Daisy has everything handed to her, and how she responds to everything Lisa has ever done to her in that moment with KINDNESS. She couldn't handle it...the idea of taking her handout. I think she sees Daisy, even with her problems, as a shining light with a lot of hope for her future. (And of course Daisy doesn't feel that at all, she feels trapped and worthless.) Some people have to be sure to do whatever they can to dim someone's light.
