@DeeFightingDreamer
@DeeFightingDreamer 2 жыл бұрын
@@connorburnett21 exactly. I read that Aaron originally tried out for Marius, and while I think that Aaron just embodies Enjolras' fire and passion like nobody ever did, Marius was a main role in the movie, so he should have been played by someone who can sing very well. Like you said, Eddie wasn't bad, but compared to the others he was mediocre. Aaron has the voice, and he stands out vocally.

I can't believe the soldiers would kill a young child in cold blood like that! It was traumatizing to witness that on screen! Usually if there's a death of a child, they pan away from the scene and the child dies off screen! It was too much, too brutal to see it full on! In versions of The Christmas Carol, when Tiny Tim dies, they never actually show the poor afflicted boy in his death throws! It just comes on scene with Bob and the family mourning their first loss!

I fell in live with the book first and then musical. The book has parts that still give me chills and the back story of Val Jean is painted as a super hero strength and no fear of pain and yet he only seeks redemption for an act of desperation. If you haven't read it yet, I suggest an abridged version that's about 500 pages. Anything less, you miss out on some great scenes.

Unpopular opinion: I think that Russell Crow was amazing in Les Miserables. His natural voice, raspy, deep, almost broken, but somewhat refined, suits his character incredibly. It's more emotional than some of the other ones.
@Ihdc1

Appeal to authority fallacy. Being a violinist doesn't make you an expert in vocal performance. My issue with Russell Crowe is that the key for "Stars" and possible "Javert's Suicide" were lowered for him. And he still sounded flat in places. Also, he lacks the confidence and authoritativeness in his singing you would expect from a cop. I always get the feeling he's not entirely sure of his abilities. No one beats Philip Quast in the role.
@allyj.3523
@allyj.3523 4 жыл бұрын
@@Ihdc1 I respect your opinion on his singing, however, an appeal to ethos is not a fallacy on its own - in this case, for instance, I stated that this is coming from a violinist of over a decade. I did not exaggerate my experience, state my skill, or that I had any authority in music theory or vocal performance. Being a classically trained musician does allow, however, for a more educated opinion, but in no regard could anyone's opinion - including mine - be stated as a fact.

I just want to express my fullest opinion and analysis as to why this is not just one of but THE greatest song ever composed. Not only does it perfectly capture the struggles of each character and how their struggles correlate (giving justice to the 3rd book of Les Misérables, a rare occasion wherein majority of the character's fate intertwines), the song itself weaves together SEVEN MELODIES, AND THAT IS GENIUS!!! *Who Am I?* to "One day more, another day another destiny" - Both depicts struggle in identity, that is why Valjean reprises his melody wherein he hides his true self *I Dreamed A Dream* to "I did not live until today" - Cosette, like her mother Fantine, sings about love dream along with Marius. Eponine intervening references *A Heart Full Of Love* *I Dreamed A Dream (bridge?)* to "One more day all on my own" - a melody that depicts struggle as it also used in "One more day before the storm" and surprisingly the melody itself (movement of notes and the beat) is actually a mirror image of *Do You Hear The People Sing* (melody goes up instead of down, vice versa) the difference is that the latter is an uplifting/optimistic view of struggle wile the former is of a pessimistic take on struggles *Red and Black* to "Do I follow where she goes" (and later "My place is here, I fight with you" - Marius's struggle between 'red and black' (to choose either joining the revolution or following his loved one) *The Confrontation* to "One day more to revolution" - Javert's theme about confronting people *Master of the House* to "Watch 'em run amock" - theme of Thenadiers' malicious activities (looting and stealing) AND FINALLY!!! THE MAGIC HAPPENS!!! The song circles back to the melody of *Who Am I?* in "Tomorrow we'll discover what our God in heaven has in store" indicating that their own struggles help define who they truly are!!!

Excellent synopsis. And I agree with you about how amazing this piece is. I didn’t get into the musical until years after reading the novel. They are both very special to me. When you talk about valjean “reprising his melody”, is that when he sings “these men who seem to know my crime…” from the carriage?

@@cabriniryanvu I actually have a separatr analysis for that. 'Do you hear the people sing' is quitenliterally the 'mirrored'melody of 'One more day before the storm' (also 'but the tigers comes at night' from I Dreamed as Dream). I kinda interpret it as DYHTPS as optimistic and ideal, thus ends the melody upwards (and is in major key) while OMDBTS is pessimistic abt the realities of war, thus ends thr emlody downwards (and is in minor key).
