FILM DESCRIPTION:
Producer J.J. Abrams teams with writer Drew Goddard and director Matt Reeves for this frenetic tale of a powerful destructive force that descends upon New York City, and the four desperate people who put their lives on the line to embark on a perilous rescue mission. Rob Hawkins (Michael Stahl-David) is a young American professional who has recently been offered a coveted new job in Japan. Eager to send his older sibling off in style, Rob's younger brother, Jason (Mike Vogel), and his girlfriend, Lily (Jessica Lucas), organize a surprise going-away party to take place the night before Rob boards his Eastern-bound flight. As the party gets underway, Rob's longtime friend and current love interest, Beth (Odette Yustman), shows up with another man as the dejected guest of honor's best-pal Hud (T.J. Miller) encourages partygoer Marlena (Lizzy Caplan) to wish him an on-camera farewell despite the fact that they barely know one another. For me what made this scene so damn awesome was the whole claustrophobic feeling and sense of urgency and danger. A packed bridge filled with scared people along with the helicopter pilot's, "Do not stop! Keep moving!" made the scene a hell of a lot more tense. The bridge shaking only scares the people on the bridge even further you can just witness and imagine the terror and confusion! Awesome film! :)

To all the people complaining about the ''shaky'' cameras, the movie was filmed in 'found-footage' style. The 'directors' of the film were normal people with a video camera, similar to the way the Blair Witch Project was done. The purpose of this filming technique is to make the audience feel like they are actually part of the movie itself, like they are the ones doing the filming.

if anything, i find this film truly impressive BECAUSE it was found footage style yet they still got like 200-300 extras to play panicked New Yorkers AND somehow made it look completely realistic. from the night time setting to the sounds of sirens and chaos in the background constantly, from a student studying cinematography and film at the moment, i’m still honestly unsure of how they pulled some of this stuff off while making it seem so in the moment and realistic. it’s a highly impressive film to me.

At first when I watched this movie,I had no concept of what a found footage movie was,the first few minutes annoyed me because I was expecting something more on a Hollywood scale,especially with all the hype or lack of...yet I found myself loving the various characters/actors and their interpretation of their roles,I got hooked completely forgot I was looking at a found footage movie,actually turned out to work for it,plus gave you a closer perspective of what their characters were going through,the effects were pretty decent for this kind of film,but it was characters that dragged me in,they were engaging,likeable,humerous and yet tough in adversity,scared but loyal to their friends and that eventually made this one of my favorite films,the monster was cool also.
