@@300thNPC Eh, I don't think it's accurate to call Saw a slasher movie in the same group as Halloween and Scream. The foundation of a slasher movie requires a guy hunting your group down one by one. The only killer in Saw is the group's poor decision making or the lack of unity among themselves which results in their deaths while trying to solve death traps. Saw more or less falls into the category of body horror and torture porn with the facade of a dungeon crawler.

This scene in the book was blood curdling. I read the book long before I saw the movie and it completely catches you off guard. You go for a long stretch of just the man and the boy surviving alone, cold and afraid, almost enough to lure you into a false sense that they are truly alone in this world. And then the sound of a truck comes along and you get to see what the rest of humanity is like now…

I imagine they had a system they all agreed on. Guy with a missing leg for all we know could’ve been food for them all, including himself. And the dead also become food. "Do you eat?" "Whatever we can find" "Whatever you can find?" "Yep" (looking at the kid) to me, those are the scariest lines of the whole movie, that look on Garret Dillahunt face at 1:33 is chilling !
@thecowboy9698
@thecowboy9698 11 ай бұрын
The scariest part, I thought, is what those sickos would've done to the boy had they got their hands on him. The guy playing the cannibal here is like the stuff of nightmares, and the way his eyes seemed to light up when he first spots the boy, in my reading of the situation, gives a very disturbing indication of what would've happen to the boy had the cannibals gotten their hands on him. The Father had every legitimate right to be paranoid, much to the boy's objections, but the way the world had gone to shit in the time since whatever event happened, the Father's paranoid was justified, and like any loving father, he gave everything he had to protect and preserve his son. The ending is left ambiguous, but I would genuinely like to believe that the boy made the right choice to go with that family, grew to manhood, and hopefully did not become at his core corrupted by the outright evilness of the world around him.

There's a scene in the book that mentions a small army of cannibals, with their attendant women (all pregnant), and catamites. If you understand the meaning of that word, then you know how messed up these people are. Later they find a roasted baby, abandoned while half-eaten by people who heard them coming and hid.

Probably a mechanic or knows the area or he’s the morale guy or something, maybe a relative to whoever the leader is (if they have a leader). Could be he has a disease and they don’t want to eat him if they can avoid it. I doubt they took it off just to eat it, probably was already part of the group, got injured, and had to amputate. Or maybe he was a random stranger that they captured, and they let him join their group for whatever reason partway through eating him. Or maybe he was one of them, he got taken by a different cannibal group, and some of the guys had enough brotherhood left to rescue him.

Usually thats boring and sucks for movie scenes but this tense scene really sold it

In a scenario like that of the book / movie I would have taken my life a long time ago. Realistically speaking, it doesn't make any sense to suffer so much. A bullet to the head, a handful of sleeping pills and you walk away with dignity. Especially if I have a child and especially if I know that the child fell into the wrong hands (99% of the people who populate the film) it would not just be killed, it would do worse things to it. No, in a scenario like this I would choose the least painful route.

In many ways this film is an allegory for our world, Cormac Mccarthy is known for portraying worlds in his novels that can be interpreted as "godless" or lacking hope and meaning, the world in this movie potrays maybe the darkest example. Therefore it can be implied that Cormac sees the world in this way, or has. The point of his work is that there is always a protagonist who is good in their heart, a person who may die terribly or not do what they set out to, but nonetheless they did the right thing and they continued fighting. That, to me, is the moral of this story; To keep fighting, to continue carrying the fire

I recently saw another cannibal portrayal. Some cult members sometimes eat human meat to feel closer to their god, some kind of mite. It's not prohibited, but it's frowned upon. Not on account of the act itself, which is at most considered distasteful, but because it makes people feel uneasy. And, you know, sure, that's logical! How can you trust your neighbor if he sometimes ups and kills a guy to eat him? So even though cannibalism doesn't merit a death penance by the cult's laws, sometimes the cultists will underhandedly hire outsiders to kill the cannibals in their own midst. I love that kind of logical writing. It's funny to think that a dead cannibal is always good for everyone, even in a community that somewhat allows it.
