Too bad the scene stops here. I always found the seconds after this - when Norman walks outside and then to the house - the best marriage of acting, editing and music ever.
@georgevalley13197 жыл бұрын
It's interesting how in the first few seconds of the video, there is a stuffed bird of prey (an owl) and a non predator bird (a turkey) next to Norman. The owl is near his head and the turkey is lower than his head. I think this symbolises his conflict of whether to kill Marion or not.
@mrskinszszs2 жыл бұрын
I think it's a conflict between personalities more than an actual decision by Norman. The owl represents his mother, and the shot lingering shows the mother side taking over.

I love how you always get the sense that Anthony Perkins is attractive enough for Janet Leigh to be slightly drawn to, in all their scenes together, even in a feeling a bit sorry for him and like she's got a handle on him kind of way. While being creeped out by the seclusion and the crime she's just committed.

Joseph Stefano was adamant about seeing a toilet on-screen to display realism. He also wanted to see it flush. Sir Alfred Hitchcock told him he had to "make it so" through his writing if he wanted to see it. Stefano wrote the scene in which Marion adds up the money, then flushes the paper down the toilet specifically so the toilet flushing was integral to the scene, and therefore irremovable. This was the first American movie (and possibly first fictional movie) ever to show a toilet flushing on-screen.
@tomoneill2973 Жыл бұрын
Actually, that's a myth about "Psycho" being the first ever to show a toilet-though it was extremely unusual. Possibly among others(?), the Hollywood movies, "No Time for Sergeants" (1958), & "The Last Mile" (1959), also showed toilets. Internationally, the French movie, "The Age of Gold" (1930), showed a toilet flushing.

I have this movie. Great movie! What I don't understand is that there was a remake of this with VVaughn playing Norman Bates. I was absolutely disgusted that the remake "went into the gutter" while filming this. They had Vaughn masterbating while looking through the hole in the wall. I don't think it was the intention to do so in the 1960 version. I understand that Norman thought she was pretty but what was on his mind was to carry out his "Mother's" wishes and kill her. Still disturbing but today they sure go in the gutter more than what they should. The remake doesn't even compare to the CLASSIC. That is what irritates me. HOLLYWOOD, leave classics alone! Like Psycho, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, etc..... . Even the actors should pass on it because they know they can never do the original JUSTICE. But they do it to get Fame and money. How sad!!! Anthony Perkins was superb as Norman Bates! If anyone noticed......not ONE TIME did you ever see the knife plunge into it's victim throughput the money. It was just the ILLUSION that it happened. That masterpiece was all done by wonderful acting. Anthony Perkins mannerisms put me on edge. RIP AP🥀
