THE FILM'S MOST FAMOUS SPEECH WAS IMPROVISED. One star in particular wasn't a big fan of that, though: Madeline Kahn. So when Mrs. White is supposed to talk about how much she hated Yvette, Kahn lets loose a riff involving “flames” on the side of her face, and it was so good it just had to stay in the movie.

Fun fact: The original version of this ending included Mrs. Peacock pulling her gun and getting shot; that's why you can see smoke at 1:38 when the Chief is twirling his gun. Obviously they changed it last-minute to keep the lighthearted atmosphere.

"Fun" Fact: 1:38 Notice the faint smoke to the left hand side of the shot? This was a leftover from the original way this version ended, in which the cops shoot Mrs. Peacock dead. The Chief then goes to Wadsworth, says, "Wadsworth, we got her," aims off-camera at Mrs. Peacock, and shoots her again. It was seen as too dark, so Eileen Brennan added her "I'm a Senator's wife!" bit, and they threw in some different music. Honestly, this movie would have terrifying if left unchanged!

I didn’t know that. Well, that certainly indicates that the main reason why a fourth ending was deleted from the final film - that ending had Wadsworth not only kill all the victims but also poison the brandy, which was probably seen as too dark even if comedy was added to the ending.

@@jaciharris7735 Yep, Wadsworth was supposed to have been revealed as the killer but was also going to kill all six of the other guests, but as he is telling the story of why he killed everybody, he jumps into the police car and speeds off but you hear the growls of a K9 German Shepherd dog in the back and it fades to black.

Fun Fact, Mrs. Peacock was originally supposed to be shot to death here. 1:38 Notice how you see gunsmoke rising from the chief's gun, and him spinning his gun before holstering it like a cowboy in a western movie. You don't see her after she says "How did you know my name?" because she was supposed to be a corpse at this point. they had to edit it because it was deemed too dark. Eileen Brennan had to re-record the part where she said "Take your hands off me I'm a Senator's wife!"

@@Gunfighter150 Certain cinemas would rerun the actual film, but replace the ending that people saw before with a different one so if you went and saw Ending A - the "2 plus 1 plus 2 plus 1", then it wouldn't be the same, it would have been either this one, or Ending C where Wadsworth reveals he's the one who killed them so that you wouldn't go into the film knowing the ending and spoiling it for everybody there.

One thing that bugs me about this scene is that the Chief addresses her as Mrs. Peacock (naturally, since Wadsworth set up the whole thing, he would have told her) but she reacts as though it's her real name.
