CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Judy (Natalie Wood) apologizes to Jim (James Dean) for her behavior.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
As his parents bicker in a police station, teenager Jim Stark, played by James Dean, screws his face into a knot of frustrated rage and screams, "You're tearing me apart!" At that moment, Rebel Without a Cause changed the rules for the portrayal of teenagers on screen; Jim is neither a goofy-but-good-natured Andy Hardy type nor a Bowery Boys-style juvenile delinquent, but something resembling a real adolescent, awkwardly stumbling through young adulthood. We meet him lying in a gutter, drunkenly playing with a toy monkey before he's picked up by the police. We learn that his parents have moved more than once because Jim has gotten into trouble; between his Milquetoast father and bossy, unaffectionate mother, he has no one to turn to at home and no healthy role model. While waiting at the police station, he meets two other kids from the neighborhood: a troubled young man named Plato (Sal Mineo), who shot a litter of puppies in a fit of rage, and a pretty girl named Judy (Natalie Wood), who runs with a rough crowd to get the sense of belonging that she doesn't have at home. The three teenagers become an odd sort of family, until an unpleasant revelation sends Plato on a rampage.

@@ralle6716 I can tell you with absolute certainty, he is not even on the top 50 actors of the 1950s. If you actually think that Dean was/is admired for his acting rather then his looks and his badboy image, then you really need to touch grass.

@@ronlacker326 He's regarded as one of the best by many of the greats, such as: Martin Sheen, Robert Redford, Steve Mcqueen, Paul Newman, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Dustin Hoffmann and many others. He is alongside Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift, the 3 most important actors of the 1950s for sure, either you like him or not. He was delivering powerhouse performances on tv even before starring in motion pictures. He killed in tv films such as 'Dark, Dark Hours', 'A long time till dawn', ' The thief'', 'Death is my neighbor' and others. If you watch all his tv performances, you'll realize he was really versatile for a 23 year old dude. He would definetly would give Brando a run for his money had he lived a few years more.

The opening scene in the movie with Jim Stark and the toy monkey was improvised by James Dean after the production had been shooting for nearly 24 hours straight. He asked Nicholas Ray to roll the camera, that he wanted to do something. Ray obliged and the improvisation went on to become the famous opening scene

All three lead actors--James Dean, Sal Mineo--and Natalie Wood, died prematurely under tragic circumstances; Dean died in an automobile accident in September 1955, Mineo was stabbed to death on February 12, 1976, and Wood drowned in the late autumn of 1981. In addition, Edward Platt committed suicide in 1974 and Dennis Hopper fell ill suddenly in the fall of 2009 and died five months later

The modern Romeo and Juliet and the portrayal of a "Lost Generation" that gave us hope and eternal optimism. James Dean and Natalie Wood will never be replaced or compared to for they are enshrined with beauty and immortality. Such a delicate scene with desires that we all strived and desire in our lives. This is love at its inner fabric tied with the two irreplaceable heart throbs of all time...
