CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Frank (Dennis Hopper) forces Jeffrey (Kyle MacLachlan) to go on a "joy ride" with him, Dorothy (Isabella Rossellini) and his boys.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Director David Lynch crafted this hallucinogenic mystery-thriller that probes beneath the cheerful surface of suburban America to discover sadomasochistic violence, corruption, drug abuse, crime and perversion. Kyle Maclachlan stars as Jeffrey Beaumont, a square-jawed young man who returns to his picture-perfect small town when his father suffers a stroke. Walking through a field near his home, Jeff discovers a severed human ear, which he immediately brings to the police. Their disinterest sparks Jeff's curiosity, and he is soon drawn into a dangerous drama that's being played out by a lounge singer, Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini) and the ether-addicted Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper). The sociopathic Booth has kidnapped Dorothy's young son and is using the child as a bargaining chip to repeatedly beat, humiliate and rape Dorothy. Though he's drawn to the virginal, wholesome Sandy Williams (Laura Dern), Jeff is also aroused by Dorothy and in trying to aid her, he discovers his dark side. As the film nears its conclusion, our hero learns that many more indivduals are tacitly involved with Frank, including a suave, lip-synching singer, Ben (Dean Stockwell), who is minding the kidnapped boy. Director Lynch explored many similar themes of the "disease" lying just under the surface of the small town, all-American faade in his later television series Twin Peaks (1990-91).

The "Hey!" in the beginning is honestly chilling. Frank is off camera, and you hear the shout which automatically makes Jeffrey stare right towards it. That split second, where we see Jeffrey meet eyes with Frank for the first time, was honestly one of the most intimidating moments I've seen in any movie. You feel right in Jeffrey's shoes, you hear a shout, you turn towards it, you instantly realize you're in incredible danger with no way out.

Me too. I believe I saw that "A Ride" clip on Watchmojo's top 10 David Lynch Movies and I was then like, "Ohhhh so that's where the "A ride" quote in Conker's Bad Fur Day came from. Man that game is chalk full of movie references. :D

I laughed when I played it for the first time and came across it. Kinda feel like a couple other Lynch references would've done that game wonders. Not to say of course that it's not a fine work already, but, you know.

Very interesting to see Piter De Vries very humble beginnings! He pretty much goes off the rails in Arrakis though. Shame...

Frank Booth the epitome of pure evil Dennis Hopper's performance definitely ranks up there as one of the most terrifying. skin crawling stuff you just knew with every passing moment Frank could do something truly unspeakable...........

He is definitely evil but he's also completely insane, he isn't self aware most of the time.

Lot of people don't know but Dennis Hopper did this movie right after he got out of drug rehab, so a lot of the mannerism's he replicated when he was under the influence for real, why his wife said she felt like he wasn't acting for a lot of the scenes.
