@Mr. Brodie Agreed. It's not the parents fault, of course. The dysfunctional family might have played as a catalyst in his ultimate downward spiral but that doesn't justify his crimes. Who knows he might have killed even if he had a perfectly normal family. However I still believe there was some clear negligence, not just from the family but also from the people around him. There were some pretty clear warning signs that he was not on the right track but they were ignored by everyone. If they had noticed then maybe the number of victims would have been lesser then they are. Bullying, early fascination with cutting the skin off of animals and dysfunctional family isn't an excuse for his crimes but it sure gives an insight and explanation into his twisted mind.

@@robinholland1574 I’m sure that along that dark path there were those who didn’t feel they had the time or just didn’t care. Who knows what one concerned individual could have prevented? The saddest part is that there are loads of stories such as this one. Maybe not quite as grisly but certainly just as tragic. The scariest part is that once his transformation into a monster was complete, everybody who met him thought that he was just like everyone else. Terrifying. Truly terrifying.

John “Derf” Backderf, (author of the graphic novel this film is based on) was on set one day, and Ross Lynch approached him to chat still in costume. Backderf told Lynch that he had to walk away, because he couldn’t talk to Lynch when Lynch was in costume. Lynch apparently looked and acted so much like Dauhmer, that it made Backderf emotional.

Warning, this is kind of a disturbing story: I had a friend when I was a kid who was a few grades older than me. I think I was in grade 3 and he was like grade 5 or something. He was kind of a terror sometimes to other people, causing these occasional wild outbursts just to piss people off and laugh at the chaos. I liked him though because he was really nice to me and would always include me, a younger loner kid, into his friend group. His friends seemed pretty normal in general. I’d go to his house and we’d play various normal kid games in his yard. One day though, we were walking by an old broken fountain in his yard. I noticed it was filled with clean lizard skeletons, so I asked him about it. He told me that he sometimes liked to burn live lizards with matches and sometimes use whatever combustible liquid he could find and just watch them burn to death. I was a kid so I didn’t think that much of it really. Later that Christmas I got a home science kit for Christmas (I was really into science back then). It came with test tubes, a microscope, glass slides, dull scalpels, etc. My friend saw these and was like “We should experiment on a lizard!” So I went with it and we went to my yard, caught a lizard and dissected it completely while it was still alive. Even found out that is was bearing eggs. As a curious child I found it kind of fascinating, the inner workings of a living creature and whatnot, but I was also slightly uncomfortable and sympathizing vaguely with the lizard, even though I hadn’t entirely grasped empathy yet. After he left my house, my mom and older sister immediately found out what we did. I didn’t hide it because I didn’t know at the time that it was wrong. They explained to me how horrible the act was and how the lizard must have felt and I ended up crying my eyes out for hours out of pure guilt and realization. I never hurt an animal again after that. The following year though, my friend moved away and I never heard from him again. I don’t even remember his last name and have no idea where he could be. This movie disturbs me especially because I always once in a while look back at that friend and wonder... I know it’s normal for children to be curious, but that’s on a different level of curiosity, but I learned from that one mistake and he seemed to feel nothing from it. Am I gonna see him on the news one day? Lolll

@kris242
@kris242 4 жыл бұрын
Kro Tv the basic idea of development is learning wrong from right, especially when it comes to morality. If a child never learns that it’s wrong to kill, particularly in the sense of victim vs. victimizer, they have a harder time understanding the difference when they get older. In the case of Dahmer, this lack of understanding fed into his further mental health. Developmental psychology is an extremely important science and proves foremost that lessons at a young age highly resonate into later years.

schmoo then you don’t agree with the statement you originally agreed with then... You can’t find it sad that “Jeffrey wanted to be forgotten” if you also agree his father/family wanted his body burnt. Whether Jeffrey himself wanted his body burnt, or his family, the fact still remains it eliminates the tiny amount of evidence we could have used to actually prove Jeffrey was a monster. Whichever option, my original point is valid. Whoever’s idea it was to burn Jeffrey, was to cover up the fact he was evil, leaving only his words which weirdos like you use to hang onto the notion he was a person who not only deserved empathy, but should be empathised with in spite of how many he killed, how he chose to kill, how long he killed, etc. Bye troll

SPOLIERS If you are interested in the movie I can tell you that dog (or other animals in it) don't get killed or tortured. I'm not interested in films feeding on sensation, or depiction of gruesome acts. This film is concentrating on eventual cause or process of Dahmer becoming a killer. It's quite fair in my opinion. It doesn't give you ready answers, neither it's forcing any judgement on viewer.

SPOILER Edit: Actually found out that the dog was dead before Dahmer disemboweled it and stuck its skull on a stick, they should have included that fact, makes him out to be an animal abuser. There's a scene later though where some kids come across a disemboweled dog in the forest (filmed very blurry in the background) that's assumed to be the work of Dahmer.

I think this movie and the real interviews and stuff generally aren't there to excuse his crimes but more explain how he spiralled out of control. He had a lot of problems mentally to begin with, with his parents not handling them the way they should, doctors and the whole justice system just overlooking stuff cause he was white he didn't get the therapy he needed to maybe be stopped or at least keep him from society. I just recently listened to a three hour podcast about his detailed life and he did try a lot of things to stop his urges, most prominent thing he tried was turn to alcoholism. He knew something was wrong, he knew what he did was wrong but when the chemicals in your brain are all screwed up and no one notices and you don't get help yourself, like proper help, there's nothing you can do to stop those urges. One doctor explained that what he probably suffered from was a disorder that hit the brain in the stop that usually responds to sexual arousal, but with that disorder the brain sort of seizes and arousal and aggressions are mixed. In his case everything else just pushed him into murder

I agree we shouldn't victimize him, but I didn't think the movie did that. It showed what his early life was like and when something is what happened that's just it- it happened. NOTHING that happens to Dahmer excuses ANYTHING he did, but I think that's why people find these movies so interesting. The thing I think people get confused is excuses versus explanations. I thought that this movie was an attempt to explain, at least partly, why Jeffrey Dahmer turned out the way he did, without excusing his behavior.

No one failed to realize what he eventually became. He was deeply troubled from an early age and it’s sad because the crimes he eventually went on to commit could have been prevented if he had just willingly gotten the help he desperately needed early on.

Don’t do that, Dahmer was a psychopath. He killed for the “pleasure” of it. His parents couldn’t understand him because he didn’t have the emotions they did. It’s sad that people are born like that but it doesn’t NOT excuse the horrible murders he committed! There are thousands of psychopaths and sociopaths that chose societal morality and do not murder, he could have done the same. Don’t you ever try to excuse this mass murderer on the grounds that he’s “misunderstood”, too many young black and brown men died for you to even think of that.

This movie is gonna be great. I am really proud of Ross Lynch. Edit: Why are there so many creeps that like Dahmer? He was a real person that killed 17 guys for his own pleasure. He was a selfish coward and that isn’t cute at all. Dahmer was not even remorseful. He was a lying manipulator. His bragging and disrespectful behavior led him to his death. Why should we care about his feelings? He didn’t care about the feelings of the 17 that he killed. “There are a surprising number out there who view Jeffrey Dahmer as some kind of antihero, a bullied kid who lashed back at the society that rejected him. This is nonsense. Dahmer was a twisted wretch whose depravity was almost beyond comprehension. Pity him, but don’t empathize with him.” -Derf Backderf

andrika1990 Exactly. I know some say that media and people are too sympathetic towards him. But it's hard to ignore all the chances people had to say "something is wrong" and maybe have gotten some help for him. Though, the level of depravity with which he killed, I do wonder if it would have changed the outcome of his life.

He has said in interviews that in regards to his homosexuality, even talking about it wouldn't have made a difference in then end (when it came to his killings) and when it came to his darker urges, that "there were things inside my head that I wouldn't have shared with anyone".
@jnicolebean2468
@jnicolebean2468 7 жыл бұрын
Anya I remember that interview. One of his last. It's the thought that if someone had just taken the time to see a little deeper. Stephen King could have done horrific things if his mother hadn't gotten him a type writer. I don't think anyone ever gave him another way out. We all have a place in our minds where dark things could come out of. Some people are more prominent in that area. I don't think Bundy or Holmes or Gacy were ever going to be anything but killers. But Dahmer had the potential to be saved even if he would never talk about it. There was a level of empathy for his victims. Albeit, a very small skewed, distorted amount of it but there all the same.

I don’t think the movie is trying to justify anything. It just show that a depressing home and childhood is part of the contributing factors that shaped him into a killer. It is not just simply blaming it on bad parenting. It is just showing his family background.

Okay to everyone who is considering watching this movie... several comments have said this was the most boring movie they have ever seen. Others say this was a masterpiece. Spoiler, this movie is not about Jeffery killing his victims, it’s about the “making of the murderer” who he was in high school and his relationships with his friends. If you want to watch a movie on Jeffery Dahmers killing spree, then this movie will be very slow because u will be in anticipation for something that will never come. If you are watching this to learn about Jeffery in high school. As a true crime fan I would highly recommend. It’s fascinating, disturbing and actually a masterpiece. Hopefully that clears things up.
