I've always loved Steve Coogan. So glad he's still working in the biz.

Yes, he can do dramatic, tragic and very funny roles at the same time. My first introduction to him was in "24 Hour Party People" and "Tropic Thunder", two very different films.

I mean, I take your point about the surplus of "blow 'em up/shoot 'em up" films but it is Argentina in the 1970s-there will be killing.
@VAPIDISM19 күн бұрын
You may have inadvertently done a spoiler there. There is probably a mad hair raising car chase at the end, with occasional shots of the penguin on the back seat adding light relief comical moments. Penguin manages to escape Batman and Steve holds his arms raised and wide shouting AAH HAA.
@adambazso920719 күн бұрын
I read nothing about the story, but I have the impression that it takes place during the military-junta in Argentina, which was not-so-secretly supported and aided by the CIA and the US-government and led to the horrifying torture, killing and "forced disappearence" of several people, who were deemed "ideologically dangerous" or "oppositional" in the eyes of the right-wing-dictatorship. Many of them were young people and many families don't know until today where the remains of their loved ones are. Because they were tortured, then burned or brought with helicopters above the sea and then were thrown into the abyss (while many of them were still alive). The US-aided, completely anti-democratic and inhumane regime-changes in South America in the 60's and 70's are so horrifying and so incredibly sad. I don't know if you know the Argentinian film "The Secret in Their Eyes" from 2009, with the always-superb Ricardo Darín (and a stellar cast). It depicts a story from this part of Argentina's history. It's so incredibly sad and infuriating. In school we didn't learn about these regime-changes, but as I read about them later I was so schocked and depressed by all of this. (Another great film about this subject is "Missing" /1982/ from Konstantinos Costa-Gavras. Again an incredibly heartbreaking, moving film in documentary-style. Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek are very good in this film.)

@andrewryan1500 within in the 'Loveable crank forced to road trip with an animal he comes to learn life lessons from' genre, yes.
@andrewryan150020 күн бұрын
@@gridlo It doesn't look much like a road trip film, though - most of it seems to happen in the university. And he takes the animal entirely voluntarily, so it's not like one of those 'Uptight guy has to cope with unruly animal' films such as Turner & Hooch or Beethoven. Seems more similar to Mr Popper's Penguins, if anything.
@gridlo20 күн бұрын
@andrewryan1500 you're right. It also appears that Coogan wears shirts that differ from Murray's. As well as differing pants. Plus if you look closely they each style their hair differently and their eye colors don't match. Well you've really turned me around on this thing.
