I felt this book belonged to the three most important Slyetherins in the entire HP storyline: Draco, Snape and Lord Voldemort himself. I loved the parts where Harry and Dumbledore spent understanding Lord Voldemort. We also see how the outcome of the inevitable Harry vs Voldemort battle starts tilting towards Harry in this book. Book 5 end was so tragic because Voldemort precisely understood how Harry would react, and here, Harry and Dumbledore are attempting to use the same tactic to great effect.

The HBP book hits different because Harry pays more attention to what’s going on around him as a normal teenage boy does, like Ron and Hermiones relationship and how he feels about Ginny and his jealousy towards Dean. It feels more real and relatable whereas in other books he’s constantly worried about being murdered or about other larger sinister things which aren’t relatable. Also this is the book where Harry truly hated snape. In the previous books, he hated snape because he took off unnecessary points from gryffindor or gave detentions. But in this book, Harry finds out snape was the one who revealed the prophecy to Voldemort and was, in some way, responsible for James and Lily's deaths. And in the end Snape kills Dumbledore and Harry's hatred reached its breaking point. The portrayal of these events is phenomenal in this book.

I think The Half-Blood Prince is a book about the Slytherins and how different they were from each other. Draco, Snape, Tom Riddle and Professor Slughorn, the book delves into the characteristics and mind-sets of these four characters majorly and has done a tremendous job in’s highlighting the many shades of the Slytherins and bringing across Sirius’ point that the world is not divided into good guys and Death Eaters! But he was only ever just a bully, not a truly cruel person and falters in his attempts and in his commitment to the dark side. I think Draco lowering his wand is his redemption moment. Some people wanted a real fight between harry and draco at malfoy manner but they already had it in HBP with the sectumsempra curse. Once it got too 'real' between them, they didn't actually want to hurt each other.

@@Miao559 Forget about Ginny being the best girl for Harry, Harry isn't a good fit for Luna herself! Harry wants to settle down and build a family, whereas Luna wants to travel the world exploring new places and finding interesting creatures. Not to mention, and this is something that you don't see in the movies, Harry is often VERY dismissive of Luna's personality, appearance, and beliefs in his internal narrative. So while they are great friends, there are clear incompatibilities that would come to the fore in a romantic relationship.
@stefan41594 жыл бұрын
@@Miao559 You should definitely read the books, yes.
@stefan41594 жыл бұрын
Yes, Harry was less vocal and fervent about it than Hermione, that's a given. But if we're talking in the context of a potential romantic relationship one can say that he is dismissive of her overall belief system. Harry is, obviously, a lot more down-to-earth than Luna. As I said, it's different if you look at it through a friendship lens; there is more space for disagreements on these issues. Just look at Ron and Hermione: her SPEW is an essential part of who she is, and her disagreement about it with Ron is one of the reasons why I am no longer as sure about their compatibility as a couple. Although, for what it's worth, in terms of the Sextet, if Ginny is ruled out, I definitely prefer Harry/Luna to Harry/Hermione. From the very first book it is established that Harry's greatest desire is to be part of a family. So I don't think you can understate Harry's love for the Weasley family, with one of its obvious components being how many people there are. He loves the chaos of the Burrow; it's why he comes back pretty much every summer (and Christmas during HBP). You cannot confuse Harry's chaotic life in terms of dealing with threats around him, and the 'chaos' of raising a family. Harry seeks normality, raising a family is a 'normal' kind of chaos. I've seen this brought up a few times and really, I've never understood it. Yes, Ginny is stated to be 'attractive' in the common 'Hogwartsian' consciousness. So what? Cho, Cedric, and Fleur are described in the same ways. Besides, it's mentioned like what, three times, in the entire HBP book. I haven't read the books in some time, I know there's the Slytherin conversation, which is the most cited one. There's obviously much more in that book (and others) about how Harry himself views her, both physically and personality-wise.

I like how the themes in each book are somewhat mirrored across the series. I would say the fourth book stands alone in focusing on the return of Voldemort to power, and the dire consequences of his return. Books 3 and 5 are heavily focused on Sirius and Harry, as well as their relationships to the other Marauders. Books 2 and 6 are heavily focused on the identity of Voldemort as Tom Riddle, as well as the Harry-Ginny relationship. And Books 1 and 7 are heavily focused on the Harry as the Boy Who Lived, as well as on Lily Potter, both in her protective love for Harry, and Snape’s love for her.

For every other subject, the teachers always ask the students to open their textbooks, but Snape always puts the potions instructions on a blackboard. I can understand why Harry and Cho's relationship was awkward and undeveloped. He had a crush on her for her beauty and nice personality, whilst not knowing so much about her. And I think that Cho was never truly interested in Harry, but something drove her to pursue a relationship because he was the Harry Potter or she just needed someone to get over Cederic. Nonetheless, they just weren't a good pair since they had little in common and had spent very little time together. Harry with Ginny on the other hand have known each other since his 1st year at Hogwats and their relationship definitely matures better than his and Cho's. Ginny always had that admiration and liking for Harry, getting even deeper after he saved her in the chamber of secrets. And they generally had way more natural process into becoming a couple since they had more in common and had more chances to be together, making them both comfortable around each other. Rowling may have wanted to interpret this very gradual character development into the books to show that Ginny and Harry made a better couple all along. That's why I believe that the author did a pretty good job with those 2 relationships to argue against your opinions. P.S. If I could write so much on my english or history essays in school, I would probably be the best student in my year

Snape is hands down the best Harry Potter series character of all. We are constantly shifting our thoughts about him - in the first book we hated him then at the end we loved him, that same pattern went on throughout the series. I found myself wanting to punch Snape at times but also hug him far before the final book. The fact that he is so closed off, probably as a result of being bullied as a child and never actually pursuing the woman he loved most, makes him look emotionless. He gives off a psychopathic vibe in the sense where it seems as though he is monotone (based on his voice, actions, expressions, etc.). We never really see his true self until the last book where his character arch takes OFF. We look back and notice small things he's done and understand why he did them. The fact that he was able to love Lily for his entire life, and with that, care for Harry even though Harry really never respected him, and he hated James Potter, he still cared for Harry and couldn't hurt him simply because of his love for his mom. We see that he's deep down, a hearty and loving man (and he was the whole entire time), yet the only time he really shows emotion is in his memory, the conversation between him and Dumbledore, where he breaks down and actually exposes his true self. I love that man so much. I was sobbing the whole time during his memory sequence. At the end of the sixth book, I thought, this is my final straw. I hate Snape. He is the worst, he betrayed everyone, I literally felt personally betrayed by him and I'm not in Harry Potter. I thought that there was LITERALLY no possible way JK Rowling could salvage his character after that, that the ups and downs were over and he is just a bad person. Then, when he's about to be killed by Voldemort, I found myself feeling sorry for him and tearing up unknowingly, I was like "why am I crying its *Snape*", but then after reading his memories I completely broke down. I love him so much. Best character.
@GreySeashell-j3m3 жыл бұрын
I still didn't like him tho. I can't brush off his bad actions just coz of some sad backstory - it's so cliche, done so many times. Meaning well doesn't always come across through ones actions right. So I can't really see how he supposedly "cared" for Harry all this time while simultaneously treating him and people he cares for like shit. (preventing him from dying isn't the only way to show u care. What if he lived, but his future is ruined because of you? But it's oke since he didn't die - which also contrasts the point of "There's things much worse than death" theme they're going about.) Don't even get me started on how shit of a teacher he is. However, this is only my opinion and anyone can think otherwise.

Yeah he’s a great character, I wouldn’t say I’m a HP fan but his storyline really grabbed me. There are parts where he comes off as a bit of a cartoon villain but he also feels like a real, deeply flawed person who changes for the better. The way everything came together in The Prince’s Tale was beautiful.

The relationship between Harry and Dumbledore is my favorite part of the book. The plot twists, the scene when harry get to know about Snape hearing the prophecy through Sybil Trelawney, everything was so much fascinating about this book
@kennymarket24283 жыл бұрын
Harry’s relationship with Cho was just a first crush scenario. The 6th book was about the time right before you come of age. They are actively working for their future and not just planning for it. This is why his relationship with Ginny works out so well. She was his actual girlfriend. They had time behind the scenes and that’s a huge difference from his time with Cho. Ron’s story arc in this book is underrated. I loved his whole storyline and his relationship with Lavender. She did it so well. After watching this whole video I can say I’m proud of you man. For the first on any Harry Potter KZbin page I can say you really know your stuff. I don’t agree with everything but this was a very well thought out video.

I love the book, but my greatest gripe was Hermionie. The fact she was so adamant to shut down and denies Harry's arguments and reasonings to how Draco was up to something irritated me. Yeah yeah, it's hard to believe a 16 year old would be an *actual* Death Eater, it would be farcetched, but the fact she was like "Nah, i don't believe it." when Harry explained Malfoy and Snapes private conversation about the Unbreakable Vow... Like, come on, Hermionie, you're smarter than this!

Indeed, Hermione IS smarter than that. But for that book she was dumbed down, so JKR could ram the Hinny ship down our throats, because she kept clinging to the plot as she first invented it, while in the previous two books Harry and Hermione were becoming way too close (book 4 ending with Hermione kissing Harry for the first time, and in book 5 Harry completely broke down by the thought of Dolohov having killed Hermione).

While I do love the backstory on tom, dumbledores death, and how perfectly written this book is my favorite is still 7. All of my favorite scenes like harry talking to dumbledores portrait at the end, snapes memories, dursleys departure, dumbledore and grindelwalds back story, etc are in 7.

I agree. The first time through, I hated all the Dumbledore stuff because I wanted to get to all the action. But in my numerous rereads, Dumbledore's backstory has become the highlight of the whole series because of how it relates to Harry's thematic arc.

Well it's really underrated... And literally I love this book, adding to your points: 1. This book embarks the proper hit of maturity, as you said the breaking up of the eggshell, the dawn of realisations, the discovery of self opinion and options. 2. The maturity of relationships...this is just similar to real life as in at the age of 16-17 (not like today's social media generation) but as of the environment of a society that had more of physical connect and exposure), as Rowling depicts the era of late 90's...people grow up together making decisions for the one's right or wrong for them and also admiring their attributes. 3. As we grow up to age most of us realise that there is a battle going on be it in the world, amongst peers, a struggle for survival, a yearning to make happy the people you love or of long sworn redemptions....and we start to take a stand, so does Harry and every other character over there including Seamus where He fights and argues his mother for himself staying at Hogwarts for Dumbledore's funeral and not giving in for his mothers' bit of exaggeration 4. Decision Making...as their is a popular line from the movie Pacific Rim "When you're in a fight, you have to make some decisions, and bear its consequences" same goes for ours as well as Harry's life and the book shows that there is always a tinge of risk poking Harry's heart for each of his decisions , but still He as in we step ahead bearing that risk. 5. Loss of Mentor...it's not necessary that everyone lose their mentor or teacher to death once they are of age...some lose before that, some really late...some lose for time some for distance but the one common feeling we all share (including Harry) when we lose our mentor (be it on farewell, graduation, transfer or anything) we feel stranded, alone, able yet terrified and all we have with ourselves are their directions, teachings and the confidence they created inside us for our own selves and we again start to move "Ahead"... There's so much more to this but in a comment I feel this much could be enough...🙂
@GreySeashell-j3m3 жыл бұрын
Was gonna agree until you implied that the _"social media generation"_ can't form any physical relationship and basically grew up like rocks who never interacted and are basically stripped of any humanity because apparently we're robots who didn't play with dirt and it doesn't exist to us 🙂
@abhyudayrajanand74703 жыл бұрын
@@GreySeashell-j3m I actually meant to say during the 90s people used to connect and socialize more since they had no other distance communication mediums...therefore they had more organic definitions of relationships if they really were into each other...surely we too have an emotional connect but what do you think would tell you more about a person? A late night conversation with them by the campfire or in your beds through your phones?

What i liked about this book was the first glimpse of the dark side from a personal view. Made me think about them as characters rather than tools, like Draco, Narcissa, Bellatrix (tho very little), Tom Riddle, and the mystery of Snape. And i loved your video.
