Daniel Radcliff has proven (EVEN in this very series) that he can portray a boy in love with a girl and have it be believable and genuinely sweet. He did it with Cho. He gazed at her on the train, he spilled his juice when she was looking at him. There was that whole moment when he kissed her in the Room of Requirement. With Ginny, we see VERY LITTLE, if any, of that behavior. He has more chemistry with HERMIONE, and even Luna, than he does with Ginny, who is meant to be his girlfriend.
@rabiyaashraf950
@rabiyaashraf950 Жыл бұрын
It's coz Emma and Daniel are friends off set, not to mention he had a crush on her when they were little. Bonnie and Daniel hardly have any chemistry not to mention they completely pulvarized Ginny's character. Even Harry was very different in the books. So yeah, it's the directors fault, they were clearly pushing for Harry and Hermione since the start, and they even said it themselves that they thought that two main characters, a boy and a girl are meant to end up together.

@@rabiyaashraf950 the problem is that Ron is meant to be the 2nd most important character in the series (only behind Harry), but Steve Kloves was so in love with Hermione that he pulverized Ron's characterization and elevated Hermione to that place. The only reason that people saw Hermione as a good fit for Harry was because her character in the films was made to be practically flawless. In the books, its very clear that Harry and Hermione do not have chemistry and would not be a good match. In the films, its the opposite.

The only importance it has in the film is that it helps Harry win Felix Felicis from Slughorn and it teaches him a spell that almost kills Malfoy. It definitely is BS that it hardly has any uses in this film. After all, it IS called "Harry Potter and the HALF BLOOD PRINCE". This movie should have been called "Harry Potter and the Sixth Year at Hogwarts" instead due to the lack of the book.

@Roll tide Roll You're missing the point. They added several filler scenes and emphasized less important points, rather than put more focus on the serious aspects of the book. Like the person said earlier, Harry took that potions book everywhere he went and was obsessed with it. It should have been more in the front, rather than a background point. Movieflame mentioned places where they could have saved time to add in more important information. No one is saying to put everything in, just change some things around.

@@bandotaku my favorite thing is that the book was mentioned so rarely, that when Snape dramatically revealed that he is the half blood prince everyone who didn't read the books was like:the who? But in the book it was this super dark, and confusing and earth shattering moment for Harry, it was another hit to him, that the "person" who helped him so much and the "person" he grew to trust is the man who he now hates more than anything in the world, the one who killed Dumbledore. What a waste really lol

@@suzanne5574 Thank you! I hated Ginny. She was horrible in the second book. She knew she was the one opening the chamber of secrets, she knows the diary is involved. But she doesn't say anything. Doesn't get help. Lets student after student get attacked, risks having someone get killed, lets Harry be suspected, lets Dumbledore get fired, and worst of all, lets Hagrid be accused and dragged off to jail! And doesn't try to get help!!! And in the end, when everything's discovered she sobs...but not for all the people (including Hermione) who've spent the year in a coma, not for Harry, not for Dumbledore, not even for Hagrid. No, she sobs for herself because she's scared she'll be expelled!!! What a selfish sociopath. After that she just always seemed a bit skanky and desperate for male attention to be honest. And she was also mean to Neville. When they have the ball in book four and Harry and Ron are wondering who Neville's taking she admits it's her and acts like she is embarrassed and too good for Neville. She says something like well it's the only way I'd get to go...Yeah, never liked her.

Harry carelessly reading the Daily Prophet in public, then leaving it unattended on the table was just another example of careless screenwriting. Regarding the burning of the Burrow, it was an insane addition, especially when the burrow appears unscathed in the next movie, and with no explanation with regard to the fire. Also, not a single witch or wizard made a move to save the home; they simply watched it burn. No spells cast. A ridiculously stupid decision. I'll go one further that the filmmakers left out an important exchange that was in the novel showing Harry's defiance to the new Minister of Magic; something that would have made the Dumbledore Will Scene in the next movie dramatically exciting.

And one added note: As this movie was Greyback's introduction to movie audiences, it featured him appropriately. However, the following book featured him some more as the leader of a group of snatchers but in the movie, the leader was switched and Greyback became a background character in different-looking makeup. I never understood that writing choice. I really hope the series is redone and redone faithfully to the novels. The book series deserves as much.

Gotta love when they add a pointless action scene at the burrow but then remove the one actual action sequence from the book during the climax of the story. Also, it’s unforgivable that they had Harry just stand around and watch dumbledore die, because his character would never back down while somebody he loves is in danger. The book handles this so much better by having Harry under the cloak and dumbledoor preventing him from helping by using magic.

@@damienchristopher5652 I disagree. I think the books were also awkward and unconvincing. It's true the books were better than the movies, but they still weren't good when it came to any of the romances. While we're told that Harry and Ginny interact, we actually see very little of it. Harry spends most of his time with Hermione. The most meaningful interactions are with Hermione. In fact, Harry has more interactions and more meaningful interactions with Luna than he does with Ginny. JKR simply doesn't do romance well. @@cocokai9661 yes, he's had more meaningful interactions with Luna (which I don't believe is true) and Hermoine for example, but that doesn't mean anything about the romance (as good or bad as you believe it is). Just because they've shared meaningful experiences doesn't automatically qualify them to date, Ginny can comfort Harry in ways no one can (e.g in Order of the Phoenix, when he's talking to Ginny his anger dies down very fast, whereas it takes Hermoine much longer to calm him down). Most of the meaningful interactions with Hermoine Ron's also there. Luna sees him as just a friend, and it's hinted from book 5 that Harry was having romantic feelings towards Ginny. THIS! One of the main reasons why I loved the books more than the movies. I mean, I loved the film adaptations from 1 to 4, but starting from the 5th one, I just stopped watching. Ironically, the 5th book was my most favorite out of all the HP books.
@clairel33

@@BlazeStar2095 @Mhel Lopez i love the 5th book too. At least i did, haven't reread hp book for some years. Sirius was less pleasant than before. But i still put it within understandable range, he did spend all these years locked up. But what harm is there to use polyjuice potion or transfiguration to change his appearance and go outside? Whats dangerous about that? Dumbledore can be....unreasonable sometimes. Well, padfoot still my favorite, and first time i read the book as a kid and saw he died i was really upset. Didnt want to believe it. Love all the drama involving umbridge. She's the most loathsome character for me in hp franchise, much more than voldemort. Secret rebel group is exciting. And the pranks from the whole school amused me to no end. And dumbledore...dumbledore still wears bows on his beard, blue, pink, shiny robes with stars or any number of cute things. But with our old and more book accurate professor passed away, new professor is much less colorful. The tone for the entire character changed. It suits the darker tone for later movies...but well. If dumbledore was like the 3rd year one when i start as a 1st year, i probably wouldnt think him wise or genius, or as magical. His eyes dont twinkle anymore. Sigh. Wanted to see how people think of dumbledore when he continued to be like the first two films and thus like in the book. Mr. Harris played him to be so likable. Maybe there wouldnt be so many dumbledore dark manipulator fanfic then. Haha.

Season 1 should be both the philosopher's stone and the chamber of secrets though. Both books are quite short and it could take a couple years between each season so it would ensure that the actors don't get tired of their roles and want to quit. 8/9 1 hour episodes each season for 6 seasons would be a good length.

The only good thing they did in comparison to the books was the word ‘Horcrux’s reveal.. In the book, you come across the word Horcrux but Dumbledore tells Harry to find the meaning of it and what Slughorn truly spoke with Tom.. In the movie, the word itself is revealed along with the truth, making Dumbledore’s reaction perfect for it.. If he knew it was a Horcrux, he’d have never wore Tom’s mother’s ring aka the Resurrection Stone.. Also, in Deathly Hallows Part 1, there is a deleted scene where Harry discusses with Hermione the theory behind Voldemort’s selection of Horcruxes, something which was left out from movie 6, and sadly from Part 1 as well..

There is this whole thing going on with them, Lupin going on dangerous missions to stay away from Tonks, and Tonks being so depressed that she looses her metamorphmagus powers, and het patronus change and many other things...One of the best "scene" in the books when Harry asks Lupin about hoe could her patronus change, and Remus and Molly are just like "shit" 😂 Oh and don't forget the scene when everyone is around Bill after he was bitten by Greyback, and Tonks tells Remus that she loves him, and even McGonagall ships them, that is such a powerful scene. (And when Fleur sais she is pretty enough for both og them, that is superior) I really loved these in the books and I'm so mad that they totally left it out from the movie. But not only that, we saw Harry do the same thing in the first movie with his cousin, so it seems pretty human. But just by annoying him? Especially because the word 'annoy' is VERY open to interpretation. And my guess is that the book version was annoyed by a lot of people who were doing nothing wrong. So it goes from "I use magic in defense" to "Stay out of my way", very different tone.

I started liking ginny and Harry together in the books when Harry asked, "Fancy trying to find a compartment?" This was when they were on the train going back to Hogwarts at the beginning of the session. Ron and mione were off to their prefect duties. Ginny said that she had to meet Dean and left( her long red hair flowing behind her). That was just so so strong that it gave me goosebumps. Also, the time when Harry smelled Ginny's smell during their potions class when amortentia was shown to them. Sorry, I'm a big fan of romance and I say that with no shame! JKR is horrible at writing romance. One of the worst. While there were a few hints, it's true, we the readers saw virtually no interaction. So the romance and attraction came suddenly and with no real explanation. We see a real relationship between Harry and Hermione and even with Harry and Luna, but we're simply told that there's interaction between Harry and Ginny. Their scenes together are flat and dull. Harry/Hermione, and Harry/Luna have some really deep and moving scenes. So the whole Ginny/Harry thing is just boring and not particularly believable. I think JKR just wanted a way to make Harry a part of the Weasley family and Ginny was a convenient ploy to do so.

@@cocokai9661 Well, that is the thing. She isn't a romantic writer. She doesn't write such stories. But it's a completely different world she had created. So, she defo had to put romance into it. Not everyone can write what she wrote. So, it's not a bad thing. And if you don't like it, then it doesn't necessarily mean that noone else does. Hermione and Harry have an amazing chemistry but many people like their friendship better. It just shows how a male and a female can be so close and yet be just friends and that's just great on jk's behalf. I absolutely love that concept. You can like them all you want. It's your opinion. I feel a lot of the later movies suffered in the relationship department due to them not fully knowing that Hermione wasn’t going to end up with Harry. It always feels that was the direction the movies were pointing to, then they had to backtrack when Rowling decided she’d be with Ron fully. So I think they intentionally made Ginny and Harry super awkward to show how much better Hermione and Harry would be as a couple, despite Harry and Ginny actually making more sense.

The house attack was dumb, they could have showed the fun summer they had and I can't believe they left out all the Dumbledore sas when he picks up Harry from the Dursley's. That was a great scene all around. Leaving out the funeral too was a blatant slap.

Another thing you didn’t mention that personally ruined it for me was the color tone. Ik that this was based on one of the darkest books in the series but I seriously think that the color tone was way to dark. It made it look unnatural during every scene that took place in lighter places like the great hall or outside several times. And in the scenes where it was dark like the cave it was simply impossible to see what’s going on. I do believe this movie should’ve had a darker color tone but I don’t think it should’ve been quite as dark and so unnatural.

I agree, the buildup to Snape's reveal as the Half Blood Prince is almost non existent in the movie. In the book, Snape orders Harry to show him all of his school books when he catches him using Sectumsempra on Draco. This also sets up how Harry found Ravenclaw's diadem in the Room of Requirement, since he saw it as he went to hide the Half Blood Prince's book (unlike how Ginny hid the book for him and they kissed in the Room of Requirement). Then of course Harry uses Ron's potions book as a decoy, but Snape obviously knows Harry's not telling the truth. Because of that, plus what Harry did go Draco, Snape gives him detention every Saturday for the rest of term, making it so Harry couldn't participate in the Quidditch final.

Honestly, my biggest gripe with the movie is the color. It feels like someone had the black-and-white setting to 50%. It made the movie weirdly dull to look at. Even Fred and George's joke shops colors felt dull, and that's supposed to be on the brightest parts of Diagon Alley at the time. My second biggest gripe was the editing when Harry jumped away from the water when the Inferi grabbed his arm. I swear there was 2 cuts per second, as he's moving back. It looks too unnatural and extremely choppy, and extremely distracting.

I realized one thing that's very disappointing in the later movies is they're not wearing Wizarding robes. Unless they need to be in Muggle clothes for the plot, they should be in robes. It would add a lot to the movies if they were wearing robes when they were supposed to, like while they're inside Hogwarts. The movies don't feel as magical anymore because they abandoned the robes.

That, and the lack of color in the spell casting (and complete lack of creativity). The first three (and even #4) had bright colors in the magic, even when the scenes were tonally dark. Everything is so grey in the later movies. Even the candles in the Great Hall don't look like candles because they're so muted. In the last movie, there's a triumphant moment where McGonigal fights Snape and lights the candles back up. But it's so underwhelming because the room only lights up maybe 5%. The clothes, the magic... it's all lifeless.

Davis Parks I think it’s to show a much grimmer nature. At first, it’s all bright because the magical world is something special but over time, everything is revealed to be less glamorous. Besides, I don’t think Harry would do well in deep forests wearing full wizarding attire with long robes.

@@Chan-qk9eh But you can do dark with color. Look at Lord of the Rings. All three of them are dark movies but they're so vibrant and magical. They strip away what's so special about the book series.
@Chan-qk9eh
@Chan-qk9eh 4 жыл бұрын
Davis Parks never saw lotr I guess. But dark color can be used smartly. Coming from the point of view of an artist, if you want the light to be noticed, best bet is to start off with a black or grey and then add in your highlights. So the movies could’ve been a darker color but then have moments when it’s a bit lightened to bring focus to this happiness inside the dark.

@@sivad1025 POA had the best use of color imo, while it had a dark and grim look it still managed to retain a sort of vibrancy mainly in how they used contrasting colors, the later movies took the wrong lessons and made it look dark but at the same time made everything look flat and dull. Harry potter lost that "magical" quality once david yates took over, he tried to make everything seem more "realistic" but really he just made it more boring. I wish they got more directors like Cuaron to handle the HP movies. Yates in no way did a terrible job but his movies just ranged from good to ok.

It would be so easy to fix this film I could list all of them Cut down the relationship drama and instead focus on Voldemort's past and backstory Have Dumbledore and Harry walk to hogsmeade to apparate to the cave and then they ride on brooms to the castle Keep the battle of the astronomy tower. Keep Lupin and Tonk's relationship (cut Hermione and McLaughlin's relationship and cut down most of Ron & Lavender's relationship) Remove all the stupid comedy and increase the focus on how dark the world is becoming Have Ginny and Harry kiss after the Quidditch game and Ron nodds to Harry then we see them on the grounds talking about their relationship (done right this could be pretty emotional) Remove the burrow attack so we'll fit more of Voldemort's past in Have Snape question Harry after the sectumsempra scene Have more focus on the mystery of the Half-Blood Prince because when Snape's revealed to be the HBP the reveal has almost no impact because in the book as Harry starts to hate Snape more (finding out he told Voldemort the prohecy) he respects and admires the Prince more which made the reveal so good in the book. But in the film almost nothing happens between Harry and Snape and the Prince's book is barely mentioned in the movie With all that added the film would have eaisly been close to one the best in the franchise

Because her whole family, the order, and basically everyone she cared about was there, she was allowed to stay but she had to be in the great hall because while everyone else have already become experienced adults, she’s not on that level yet. Like imagine Harry even fighting in the battle of hogwarts when he was 16. It’s quite a much bigger leap. War is about sacrifice, in order to protect the ones you love you have to be willing to put everything in the line. This was also the battle of hogwarts, something that the outcome would change the entire world for better or for worse for a very, very, very, long time.

In the books, the Ron and Lavender story is important because it makes Ron and Hermione realize they want to be together. And it makes Ron relatable because we've all made awkward attempts at relationships as teenagers... Also, the unsuccessful romances were shown IMO to point out that war influences even young people with their usual teenage problems and the fact that they all come together in the end and fight in the Battle of Hogwarts, because fighting Evil is more important than past romances and relationship problems. "So young... to be fighting so many." But I agree, focusing on them in the HBP movie at the expense of other plotlines was totally ridiculous!

I mean, yes, the writers are definitely to blame; they really did not build up the relationship in any way and in the movies it just comes out of nowhere and it's not explored at all Ginny is also underdeveloped as a character in the movies and that is the fault of the writes BUT also Bonnie and Dan really have no chemistry, absolutely none whatsoever It still could've worked somehow even with the little that they were given if they had some decent chemistry but they really done have any Their scenes were pretty awkward to watch; I'm not saying Bonnie is necessarily a bad actress but good acting and chemistry were definitely abscent and I can't help but think that maybe they should've replaced her with another actress that was more compatible and had more chemistry with Radcliffe to make it feel at least a bit more natural Harry and Cho felt very natural in the movies and the actors had some great chemistry together, you could feel some romantic tension and the relationship was pretty believable and it's not like they had more scenes together than Dan and Bonnie I guess you could say that their scenes were better written sure, but they were also better acted and there was more natural chemistry between the actors

i feel like the fact that the movie is missing the battle of the astronomy tower isn’t talked about enough! it’s such an important scene, especially as it leads onto the scene in the hospital wing after Bill is attacked which is where we see that Fleur really does love Bill, and how her speech is what led Tonks to explaining why she loved Remus and she didn’t care about any hindrances between them. not to mention that Bill and Fleur’s relationship was so underused in the movie, as they were already engaged at the start of the book, where Molly and Ginny hated Fleur, which makes the hospital scene even more important, as it’s when Fleur proves that she’s not just with Bill for his looks, which is what triggers Molly to finally accept her into the family. such important scenes were completely wasted, and replaced with useless add-ins and it makes me furious

It really annoyed me that they left out all the Voldemort memories and ESPECIALLY how they treated the half blood princes book! Harry literally admired that book, even after performing sectumsempta on Malfoy, in the movie, they made it seem like it was something dangerous to be hidden away to stop Harry going down a dark path, but Harry justified the prince in the novel, not the spell, but he was showing signs of being a huge fan of the half blood prince, they really missed the mark of how much Harry and Ron too admired the half-blood prince, unbeknownst to them both it would end up being the person they hated most. Plus, to cut out the funniest part of the whole series even when trying to make it a comedy, AND would have incorporated Harry’s love for the half-blood prince’s book (and the real reason why he hid it in the room of requirement) is a full on crime. ROONIL WAZLIB was a lost opportunity. The relationship stuff was awful, especially Harry and Ginny lacking that chemistry as much as they did, and Yates butchering ginny’s confident character. The astronomy tower battle, and as I mentioned earlier, Voldemort’s memories which made half-blood prince my favourite book of the series. So much detail given to us of Voldemort’s past. Snape was my favourite character, didn’t have enough of him in this movie when it was all about him showing his “true” side. Also neglecting to mention how it was Snape who told Voldemort about the prophecy, to say nothing of how little they talked about the horcruxes, as dumbledore already guessed what a lot of them were but maybe the ignorance of the objects made it better for deathly hallows part 1.

This is honestly my favorite of the series which is a massively unpopular opinion. But I understood why they did a little comedy here and there. Cause it was about to get really dark and would remain dark till the end. So it was just a bit of a send off for the happy Harry Potter we met as a kid that was bright and happy and Experience.

It's also one of my favorites if not my favorite. The cinematography is one of the best in the series (next to PoA), the soundtrack, while very sleek, works very well for me and has a few amazing tracks. We get some standout performances from some of the actors too. These reasons and the resulting ambiance make me come back to the movie time and time again. I think it's quite absurd to judge a movie mainly by its fidelity to the source material and ignore so many other aspects. I guess there's different priorities for people when watching movies.
@TheJoker-rs8wy

@@the_bottomfragger I watched it when I hadnt read the books and I just walked out confused by what this story is about. Is it a badly written rom com? Why is Harry and Ginny's romance(?) so awkward? What is the significance of the Half Blood Prince? I mean the film is named after him and snape makes it sound like a big reveal but it wasnt built up by the film, Why did they decide to hide Harry at the Burrow in the next film and host a wedding there when it was attacked in thus film?! Then I read the books and realized that whoever made this film did not understand the story and what it was about. It is foremost the origin of Voldemort and where his evil stems from and what makes Harry the best weapon against him. Harry was conceived and protected by love while Voldemort was conceived through the opposite (literally).

And the comedy wasn't funny or appropriate. If you're going to do something like that you have to do it right and David Yates had no idea how to do that. As Morgan pointed out they totally ruined the suspense of Ron's poisoning for one thing by adding that stupid crack of his.

I do remember a friend told me that Ginny in the book turned into a beautiful girl that literally everyone in hogwarts was slobbering over and that she was this cool and confident girl which only make her more desiderable, essentially she became one if not the most attractive and sought after girl in the franchise after the half blood prince, but in movies that's really hard to do when you're competing with Emma Watson, another reason at least to me that if JK really reboots the film franchise, she should do it in animation.

Would it be better if Bonnie played Hermione and Emma for Ginny instead?
@omarreyes7626
@omarreyes7626 Жыл бұрын
@@MaiNguyen-rn7zxthat is something that cannot be answered because in real life beauty is a very subjective thing, and Emma shot to fame over her constant screen time, for example, me personally never understood the public fascination with Emma Watson, she was attractive sure but not the bombshell a lot of my friends said it was at the time, to begin with, Hermione in the books was never considered attractive, that's why nobody ever simp for her the way Ginny was in the books, that's why everyone was impressed with her appearance in the goblet of fire's book version of the yule ball, and that's why it took to long for Ron to realize his feelings for her, she was essentially the ugly duckling of HP, this all boils down to the fact that this is one of the disadvantages of live-action, you can only go so far trying to cast the perfect fit for a fictional character, animation doesn't have that problem you can follow the character design to the letter by the book description, hence why I think that if they ever reboot the films, animation would be a better choice.

I felt so sad when I didn't get to see Dumbledore knocking wine glasses onto the Dursley's heads. They took the warmth and humor of Dumbledore out of ALL of the movies. And the part where Dumbledore came to pick up Harry (when Dumbledore knew he would not be around same time next year) was gold. I also thought it was b-s when they cut the talk inside the shed when Dumbledore told Harry he had to give him lessons. If you're a kid that's like a HUGE deal when you get private lessons from the headmaster.
