I think it's very interesting that the majority of the horcruxes that were destroyed were done by Salazar Slytherin's precious basilisk venom. So he had a hand in killing his own heir!
@randomguy_069

He will be glad to kill the heir who is more like an Emo Lord than a Dark Lord. Who the heck store his soul for safekeeping in most obvious places? Once you get the theme that he stored them in his trophies its easy to guess that 3 of the 4 trophies of the Hogwarts will have it. For the snake, since she was always around him it was obvious, dairy was neat but he left it to some retard, and then came the ring and he left it to his ancestor house which was easy to track.

Voldemort never intended his diary to be a weapon. Lucius Malfoy wanted to get it out of his mansion before the Ministry raided him and found him in possession of objects belonging / formerly belonging to Voldemort. Lucius also thought he could seriously discredit Arthur Weasley (who was heading the inspection) by planting the diary on Arthurs daughter. The diary was never meant to leave Lucius's safekeeping, and is why Voldemort went ballistic about it when he found out.

An interesting thing I recently realized about the horcruxes: The early ones would have less finesse than the later ones, as they were made when Riddle was less experienced, but they would also have more raw power, because each one would contain a larger fraction of his soul. That explains why the diary was more suited to use as a weapon than the later horcruxes, as half of Riddle's soul was attached to it, more than in all the other horcruxes combined.
@Saruzu
@Saruzu 2 жыл бұрын
I could have sworn that it's canon that creation of a horcrux uses the same amount of the murderer's soul each time. I'm not sure it's dividing what's left by two each time, since his main body's soul has the most self-agency, power, and is the main cunk of his soul.
@mike48931
@mike48931 Жыл бұрын
@Saruzu assuming that a wizard could split his soul endlessly in this manner, it would be an impossibility for the wizards soul to split the same net amount each time. It would have to be halved and then half halved, and so on. Or a third or quarter or whatever it is. But definitely not a constant fixed amount, unless of course there was a limit.
@nealfirstofhisname
@nealfirstofhisname 3 ай бұрын
@mike48931 That's not how the soul works. The metaphysics are confusing, but I'll explain it. The soul has no physical existence, for most people their soul is (only) tied to their body, when they die, their soul leaves their body and moves on to the afterlife. If someone explodes, being destroyed on the atomic level, their soul would still be intact. The soul is not physically present in the body, it just exists. Now with horcruxes this works differently, because the soul is not tied to one vessel. If you have a horcux you can repeatedly be killed without ever dying, as your soul is anchored to live by something else. The problem is that the terms used; 8 pieces of the soul, splitting your soul and repairing a soul; make it sound like the soul is a tangible thing, but it isn't. Harry believes that if Voldemort shows true remorse his soul can be repaired, even after all the horcruxes were destroyed.

You know, honestly, the Diadem was probably one of the better hidden horcruxes. For someone who's not Harry who first of all knew of Voldemort's horcrux secret, it'd be one of the hardest to find. You not only had to gain entry into Hogwarts, but also had to actually know that particular Horcrux was the diadem. Then, you'd have to also somehow know it was hidden in the room of requirement, and further, you'd also have to have the means to locate it like Harry could because of his radar sense to all the Horcruxes. The cave was a good one, but it was pretty straight forward, despite the obstacles. But the Diadem was so obscure, most people had thought the diadem had been lost for awhile.

@Visstnok
@Visstnok 3 жыл бұрын
@@cityman2312 How can that be? Tom Riddle was born Dec 31, 1926. So, approximately enough, 1927 is his first year, and his sixteenth year is 1942. Any source says Myrtle Warren (diary) and Tom's father (ring) were killed in June and August of 1943 respectively, which would be in his seventeenth year. In any case, the order of the murders is clear, meaning OP is mistaken. And unless Tom made the horcruxes in a different order, it was the diary first and the ring second. However, it should technically be possible to make them out of order, since there’s evidence you don’t have to make them immediately after a murder. The murders of Myrtle Warren and Tom’s father happen in the months before Tom starts his sixth school year, which is when he has this conversation with Slughorn. Unless Tom knew all he wanted and was just out to shock Slughorn with his questions, he used the information he obtained to create horcruxes, long after those murders. Could be that he already knew about having a single horcrux, and was only really seeking info about _multiple_ horcruxes - the point still stands that you can do it after the fact.

I think the muggle tramp may be more significant than it first appears. I don't think it's a coincidence that Riddle chose to kill a muggle to defile Helgas cup. Helga was a strong advocate for opening hogwarts to anyone with the talent to learn magic, including muggleborns; it was this decision that led to slythern leaving hogwarts. It's possible that Riddle blamed hufflepuff for the decline of slytherns bloodline, and thus his own muggle parentage and time in the orphanage.

If he intended to use Harry’s murder to make his final horcrux, it’s possible that he started the ritual before going to Godric’s hollow and his soul splintered because he had “died” instead. His own “death” was what completed the horcrux ritual. I think it was a mix of his soul being unstable like Dumbledore said, and a the botched ritual.

What I don’t like about the meeting between Slughorn and Tom Riddle when they discuss horcruxes is the way Slughorn never really does tell Riddle if making multiple horcurxes is possible. Instead, Slughorn just seems disgusted by the idea of committing so much murder and ripping the soul into 7 pieces. I don’t understand how Riddle got any useful information out of that meeting if he already knew what horcruxes were and how to make them.
@clover2739
@clover2739 Жыл бұрын
He doesn’t really say, but I think his reaction confirmed to Voldemort that it was possible to split the soul into 7. Slug horn felt uncomfortable but if it wasn’t possible he’d probably try to explain why that couldn’t be done, however his reaction of disgust was proof to Voldemort that it was possible.

The whole Harry/Ginny relationship is one-sided. He only met her briefly in Sorceror's Stone and he only rescued her in the Chamber of Secrets because she was Ron's sister. After that, Harry never paid any attention to Ginny for 3 more years until Half Blood Prince. All of a sudden, he's in love with her by then? That don't make any sense.

Voldemort didn't put Ravenclaw's diadem on the bust of the warlock in the Room of Requirement. Harry did that in the sixth book to help mark the location where he hid the Half-Blood Prince's textbook inside the Room, unaware at the time that he had just stumbled upon one of Voldemort's horcruxes.
@InformationIsTheEdge

I'm curious why the movie makers changed Voldemort's death so much. The idea that his body was discarded like trash is much more satisfying than it being dissolved on the wind. Having left behind a body makes his death much more real, much more permanent. Evaporating like that, and knowing the the wizarding community's penchant for disbelieving Harry, it kind of leaves the door open to uncomfortable speculation.

I thought the Fiend Fire thing was just rushed from Rowling trying to wrap up the books. It also bothered me that Ron and Hermione were able to access the Chamber of Secrets because Ron "made the same noises Harry did" Lol its a magic chamber, not a voice activated door. Love how Ron was able to phonetically mimic Parsletongue perfectly, after 5 years, to open that door. The Horcrux thing was really cool, it relates to Dungeons and Dragons, and how Liches cannot be destroyed unless their Phylactery is also destroyed. Which is a small box that holds their ethereal soul, which binds them to the material plane. But she really rushed out that last book, instead of fleshing out each individual Horcrux and its demise.
@KamenRiderGumo
@KamenRiderGumo Жыл бұрын
Actually, Harry said "open" in Parseltongue a relatively short time earlier. In the Forest of Dean, Harry commanded the locket to open so Ron could destroy it, but the word "open" had to be spoken in Parseltongue. And Ron even says it took him multiple tries to get it right.

Wouldn’t there be 2 versions of Voldemort now? On top of that He was able to do magic with Harry’s wand. This is such a fascinating topic. He would’ve had a new soul by taking Ginny’s. So what would a new Voldemort do? A younger Tom Riddle version. Please cover this topic. Would love to hear your ideas on it. And maybe for plot sake, have Harry still survive the chamber of secrets and Riddle leave with his diary.

One was to hide the diadem in the room of requirement and two, to find the sword of Gryffindor which he knew was at Hogwarts. Since Dumbledore didn't gave him the job, voldemort didn't get a chance to take the sword and make it into a horcrux.

Now I can’t stop thinking about Tom Riddle as the defense against the dark arts teacher if Dumbledore didn’t refuse him a job at Hogwarts, that just sounds so ironic to have the greatest dark wizard teaching how to defend against his dark powers.

A Defense/Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher is only as good as his/her/their understanding of The Dark Arts and his/her/their willingness to go beyond theory and into practical applications against The Dark Arts. Remus Lupin, Barty Crouch, Jr. in his Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody disguise, Harry Potter in defiance of Dolores Jane Umbridge's crap, and Severus Snape were the best DADA teachers in the series. Quirinus Quirrell, Gilderoy Lockhart, Dolores Janes Umbridge, and The Carrow Siblings just plain sucked as DADA teachers. Albus Dumbledore probably had more than a few suspicions as to why Tom Marvolo Riddle wanted the job of DADA teacher, none of them good.
