I'd always taught Jonathan looks obnoxious, but once you watch him speak you change your mind very quickly. He is down-to-earth and apparently not concerned about not sounding macho, which is a plus. I`m pleasantly surprised with his accent. I didn't know he sounded so Dubliner. :) Watch The Tudors, people!

Scarlett leaves alot to be desired as an actress while Jonathan absolutely soars in the film. He is tremendous in the role and as reprehensible as his character could have become,he manages to reveal enough vulnerability throughout the film that we almost find ourselves rooting for him. One of the most layered performances I've seen in a decade. Also,a triumph for Woody who writes a script that just won't quit.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers "Doppleganger" (look alike) lives across the street from me here in the U.S.. He is also 5'9". The resemblance is strikingly identical. The only major difference? he's 20 yrs younger (16 yrs old, same age when Ryes was first discovered) and just a tad heavier looking in the face. He even has the same personality characteristics/habits as if twin brothers, just born at different times. I shit you not!

+Jack Carter You're the one making assumptions about his menial work reply. He was kicked out of school as young as 14 (I've read anywhere from 14-16). He grew up in crushing poverty and before getting into acting, cleaned tables at a pool hall and worked as a farmhand. If he hadn't gotten into acting, he likely would have ended doing menial work. So he's not making a general assumption about all non-film related work as menial. He was speaking from his experience. He has said he respects people who work---any type of work because he grew up in 80's Ireland where jobs were scarce. He got into acting simply because it was employment. He just wanted job and anything would have been a step up. It just so happened acting came along and worked out for him.

replying to what Koley W said: completely true. I watched an interview with Ewan McGregor not long ago (i think it was on the graham norton show) and he told a story about how he had to do a sex scene with christian bale (funnily enough, jonathan rhys meyers was also part of the movie) and he was actually getting turned on as they rolled the scene. To the point where he whispered in christian's ear " i am about to come". They didn't even realize that the crew had already done filming and were gone as well since the shot was taken from a rooftop. (true story, check it out yourself)

That's not what he said. The director let the scene go on for so long that Ewan felt like he would have come by then, if it were real, which is what he told Christian Bale. They had not heard the crew call cut (and I've read that the director didn't call cut, that it was a practical joke to just see how long they'd carry on.)
