The original Alien movies were so good, not just because of the horror and suspense but because a) Gigers art was so original and shocking at the time AND b) because you had great actors like John Hurt, Ian Holm, Harry Dean Stanton, Lance Henrikson etc actors who had grit and depth, Sigourney Weaver had amazing screen presence also. Why the hell is Hollywood saturating all their films with these young good looking (way too good looking), flimsy, forgettable, vacuous actors is beyond me, it ruins everything which is why I never watch these films anymore, they're just awful.

For further Hicks adventures, i suggest the Earth War saga, starting with the novel Earth War. Because of Alien³ they had to change Hicks to “Wilks” - but it’s the same character. Promoted to Sergeant, he’s a total burn-out, on the ragged-edge, basically a Marine pariah for losing his unit. Great stuff.

Fede spoke about this at SDCC and said they have been edited to make you think one thing but will be another when you see the film. The footage they showed at SDCC was the same scenes we saw at Cinemacon but they were different in some areas, longer in others, etc. The new footage we saw at SDCC will be interesting for sure.

First watched Aliens as a kid in 1991, followed up with watching Alien and braved it on my own that same year when I was 11. I’ve been a fan for 33yrs. I was excited for every release after that but Romulus feels like it could really deliver, I have high hopes.

My only concern is the crew seem very young and shiny. I love the original (which I also watched in the 90s) because it had a certain grit not seen in Sci-Fi before and the crew reflected this in their age and general health, which made it relatable and believable. There does seem to be a return to form with the atmosphere and sounds of the original coming through, which will hopefully deliver on the nostalgia of the original that made it so successful.

Sorry, but no: - the actors are very young adults (which could open some "sacrificed youth" thematics on the other hand, but i'm not that optimistic) - I guess it matches the targeted demographics, - the monsters are shown waaaaay too much (in the trailers, maybe not that much in the final product), - some parts are shot for shot reenactments of the previous installments (tribute... or dumb fanservice). So, 1979 vibe, not really. But a fun ride/thrill? - that's my only hope. It won't be "Alien: Isolation" but a good rollercaster would be fine by me. I'll be in the crowd's theater.

So many of the comments here about the cast (age 22-32 excluding Ian Holme) being "too young", are basically acquiescing in the concept of extended adolescence and "the vanishing American adult", which crept in during the lifetime of us older timers. Well, it won't top Deapool/ Wolverine, but nobody expects it to. I think Romulus looks amazing and that Alien nerd Fede packed in all the horror possible to make adults' skin crawl. I saw it and give it a solid 3 out of 5. the movie is really dark for many viewers. If I watch science fiction I want to see the special effects. It does have non stop action for those who can see it. I love all of the alien movies due to the characters, the suspense and the story line. Romulus was significantly missing in the story and characters. Reminded me why I don’t like 80s teen slasher movies. The one monster stood out though. That was a good scene.

Saw it three days ago. You know how there’s all those 3-10 minute long Alien shorts on KZbin - the ones that are very low budget? That’s what this felt like. Just an hour and half of it. Honestly, it was one of the most forgettable movies I’ve ever seen. This happened to pop up on my feed, otherwise I would have totally forgotten I saw it the other day. Last thing I’ll say… the aliens were almost weak in this movie. It was weird. They beat an entire squadron of highly trained, highly equipped, badass space marines with ease. I just watched this movie in New Zealand, the film quality was nothing like what is shown in any of the previews. It felt like I was watching something someone recorded on their cellphone and plugged it into the projector (sound quality was awesome, just the picture was absolutely terrible). I paid good money and got the Wish/Temu version instead of what was advertised in all the previews… not happy at all. Totally ruined the movie for me.

Well, unfortunately you can't do much with Aliens. Like zombies or sharks they are stupid mindless killing creatures without any interesting character arc or plot twists. So all you will get is people running around screaming until they get killed or the aliens are blown out of the airlock again. Rinse, leather, repeat.

@@vindobonaification definitely harder to push cool ideas with aliens but its doable. l'll throw few ideas right now: Trilogy on homeworld of engineers, showcasing their entire planet, technologies, society and how they fucked it all up. Next trilogy for alien homeworld (if they have one?) if they dont right now, just make it. OR if that's not cool enough, starting one trilogy for alien invasion of Earth and decimation of human race would be cool af. There's more cool stuff to explore but I aint writing it, not getting paid to do, lmao

Young people to make it relevant, over sharing the movie with extended trailers because this gen doesn't have the capacity to anticipate and must have everything before it's released and poor Ridley Scott forced to produce under this day and age. I'm a huge fan of the original Aliens and predator movies. BUT I don't believe unless David eradicates the young gen mindset we'll ever see another good Alien movie again.

It's 20 somethings playing younger. Their parents are dead and their indentured servitude is being unilaterally extended by Weyland,-Yatoni. It definitely has a young adult feel even though their ages are never mentioned.

Young actors cost less money and Promethius was the last best Alien movie. They screwed up when they killed off Shaw, in the sequel Alien Covenant which sucked!

The first one - Atmopheric , fear and scearing. The secong one same as first but even more scary . It is almost imposible to achive that level of tension , atmosphere and good acting.
