Lestat’s comment about Akasha’s blood making him unkillable unless he’s willing, highlights his depression and sorrow about Louis’ betrayal and how he was willing to let Louis actually kill him. So glad you brought up Daniel's "Bright young reporter with a point of view" quote. Since I'm old, whenever the line was spoken by modern Daniel it sounded like an old guy with a miserable condition and fading career, pitifully clinging to his glory days. But it was young Daniel who first said it to Armand in trying to stave off his own murder; and it was Louis who fed those words back to Daniel to lift him up, the same as I think Louis was lifting Lestat up after their last embrace. Whether for good or ill, Louis is supremely impactful with his words.

Exactly. Until the last scene, we mostly see Lestat through a bias view of Louis. Yes Louis was in a dark as he said and he directed all his anger against Lestat. His first description of Lestat was excessively bad and ridiculous (ep 5. In the 70’s). His view changed in the second interview with Daniel. But still bad. And finally we see the true Lestat in the last scene and the for the first time, an exchange between Lestat and Louis without a POV. And they are both very different. Louis admitted he was lost, and intentionally made Lestat suffer and now he thanks Lestat. This suggests that louis purposely described Lestat as a bad person in both interviews. The only scenes we see Lestat in the two seasons were the letter (where Lestat asks Louis not to take revenge), the message to Armand (where he cares so much about Louis) and the last scene: all these real scenes show a very different Lestat from Louis angry description.

My favourite underrated part of this episode has to be when Louis shows up to Lestat's place in New Orleans and Lestat's fledgling is like: "THIS is Louis???" Because you know from just that line that Lestat hasn't stopped talking about Louis the love of his life to the point where when the fledgling hears the name there's the immediate recognition and also the aspect of like: you talked him up so much but he just looks like some guy ? What gives? 😂
@jaginaiaelectrizs63412 күн бұрын
I know Lestat called that guy a "fledgling"...but do we actually know for sure that it was Lestat's fledgling, specifically? (I thought, in the books, it was actually Antoinette's book counterpart fulfilling that role....but I might be mixing details up in my mind because I haven't reread that specific part recently yet, and in the tv series that's obviously not who it is at all. Lol) Either way, I loved that bit too, the fact that the guy had actually heard of Louis, one way or another.🤭🤭😏😁😂

@@jaginaiaelectrizs6341 I don't think we got confirmation that it's Lestat's fledgling, but I'm sure we will see how they met in season 3 :) Personally, I don't think Lestat was in the mood to create a fledging in his 80 year long depression era lmao
@jaginaiaelectrizs63412 күн бұрын
@@ciriisback I suspect Lestat might not have been in that particular mood, too. Although, largely, this is for me because of the name given to this 'fledgling' in the subtitles or whatever(because I do believe there is a vampire with that name in the books-who I'm wondering if this 'fledgling' is maybe actually supposed to be or not). I'm really curious and looking to find out more about that as we move forward! The 'fledgling', I've heard, also appears in a Mayfair Witches trailer too....even more curiosity to raise/potentially explore, moving forward!. (But it's maybe not entirely impossible that he might have done so anyway, even without the mood for it, out of necessity? So... Who knows! I love the idea that as much as Louis and Lestat try to pretend they don't care for the other...when one of them is brought up that's all the other one can talk about (Louis's interviews in '73 and 2022 most of what he talked about was Lestat...and, just my wishful thinking, Lestat talked the fledgling's ear off about Louis. The Vampire Lestat is actually written as an autobiography because Lestat, after reading Interview with the Vampire (in the book only one interview is done and he read the San Fran version), decides that he needs to explain himself, especially to Louis. So that Louis knows why he acts the way he acts. (And there is another reason, but I don’t want to spoil). That’s why we definitely going to see more of his backstory in S3! Apart from providing a reason for Louis to stay with Armand, it also shows just how strong Louis’ feelings for Lestat continue to be. He held on for so long thinking of Lestat. I think Louis wouldn't have believed Lestat in the tower there if he confessed to saving him. Because why would he? In his eyes, Lestat came there specifically to exact his revenge on them because they kinda killed him, he rehearsed that play, a play that would burn their daughter alive, and he didn't stop it in any way. And here was Armand who definitely gave him his blood to rescue him from being buried alive. So there was no point in trying to persuade him that Lestat held no grudge for the attempted murder, and like he said, he knew Louis would figure it out (though he actually didn't!!! Molloy did!! so I am doubting Louis here) I absolutely love your reactions and wanna thank you for the treat at the end there with the teaser, cuz I kept commenting about you needing to watch that, lol. And it's fantastic, thank you! Also the SPN reference, boy oh boy, another treat for me, that's amazing!:) And did you notice the choker Lestat was wearing in that teaser that made it look like his throat was slit - so dramatic, the brat prince. Oh, yeah, and as someone pointed out in another attempt to protect Louis, he goes on tour with this documentary so that the vampires pissed at Louis about the book, would turn their attention to Lestat. Wow. I love this show. Hope to see your reactions for Season 3 whenever it comes out (we are not ready for the biblically accurate VL - Vampire Lestat)! P. S. Siri, pause 😂

The teaser trailer is to Lestat's story what the Dubai Interview is to Louis story. The vampire Lestat rock band is the modern day place where we find Lestat... but the book "The Vampire Lestat" (which is the fodder for Season 3) is a similar format, where we are talking to a modern-day vampire but the meat of the story is deeply in the past. I hope we will get some bit of rock star Lestat, but the brilliant part of the book is Lestat's backstory...as we know, born into the mid/later 1700s and 'born to darkness' that same century. It's such a huge novel spanning centuries and continents -- it's a great ride and I hope they give it at least two seasons. It needs at least 2 seasons. It DESERVES at least two seasons. Fingers crossed! Thank you so much, MovieMan! ❤

I'm always impressed by how insightful your reacts are. Everything you've said about Armand's betrayal, why Lestat hid it, the meaning behind the rocks in his zen garden, and how their reconciliation doesn't necessarily mean they're back together (like Louis said, he's companion enough for himself now, which means he's spending some time on his own, for the first time, discovering himself)... It's so on point. I also like you mentioned the art in this show, there's truly contextual meaning to it. And it's really cool that you're rewatching it all. It's interesting to revisit the trial and notice Lestat's facial expressions and body language, especially when confronted by Louis and Claudia. He was not enjoying it. Here are also a few points (no spoilers) that you may have missed and some short explanations to some points you've raised... 44:54 Yes, Akasha is an (very) ancient vampire, and Lestat has her blood, alongside that of another ancient, besides Magnus, and Armand. The reason why Louis and Claudia don't have the same strength as he, is because once a maker shares their blood, it's diluted into that of the fledglings. And so Louis only had a portion of it. Claudia even less, since she was younger than him and her body too small, why she wasn't strong enough to even create another vampire. That difference in power can be diminished if the fledgeling feeds on other stronger vampires, especially stronger than their makers. 1:23:15 No, the colour is just a coincidence. Remember Claudia had red/orange eyes. 1:27:28 That's Daciana's (the old vampiress who jumped into the fire in ep 01) quote "We own the night." Easter egg #1 "One more round in the stormy romance of you two!", "You cannot script a hurricane", and as he returns to NOLA, he signed a term of responsibility for the hurricane, and his scene with Lestat ends up with the hurricane tearing the house. So much symbolism of their relationship Easter egg #2 When Armand visits Louis flat in Paris for the first time and comments on the art he's been collecting, he says "You're drawn to portraitures", to which Louis replies "Hides the cracks on the walls.". The when they are discussing what to hang on the concrete wall in Dubai, to replace the Bacon triptych, Louis says "Leave it bare, wait for revelation to enter the room". When it does, Louis throws Armand at that same wall, and later hangs a portrait of a rat (no less) to hide the cracks made by Armand's body. The show's full of stuff like that. It's brilliant. As to the S3's trailer... 1:39:10 That's just a double for light testing, so they don't waste time doing that with Lestat. Like his lawyer Christine said, they'll only have 45 minutes with him. 1:39:30 I hope they keep playing reality and fiction to promote this new season. 1:42:00 Lestat is making Daniel choke after he asked what he thought of his book. Louis may have been giggling in his study, but Lestat's not happy with how he's been portrayed. S3 will be retcon time! 1:40:12 Check his necklace, like a cut throat. 1:42:13 Lesta's using his mind to pan and zoom the camera. 1:44:10 The logo is VL (Vampire Lestat). Thank you for sharing your reacts. It was truly a joy to watch.

An interesting part of the timeline is the gap between Lestat “saving” Louis and Armand also “saving” Louis by freeing him from the coffin. Because we know from Santiago that several months have passed (months of sprinkling Claudia’s ashes on the popcorn), so what made Armand wait so long? Or what made him change his mind and choose to save Louis after all? His first words to Louis after freeing him were “why are you still in Paris?” So I think Armand wasn’t making a choice between Louis and the coven, but rather choosing to spare Louis and also STAY with the coven. But what prompted that decision, when he was willing to let Louis die during the trial? I don’t think we ever get a full answer to that, but it’s something to think about. My own theory is that Armand wasn’t prepared for how long Louis would stay conscious, starving, suffering in that coffin (thanks to Akasha’s blood via Lestat), and that even Armand was not immune to hearing his former loving screaming for months on end, so he saved Louis out of mercy. But I wonder if we’ll ever really know.
@Aetheria602 күн бұрын
Personally, I think he was hedging his bets on Lestat saving Louis (assuming they weren't actually in cahoots behind the coven's back to begin with), but if he didn't at least Santiago's 'solar spotlight' would make the death relatively quick. I seriously doubt he was expecting the 'banishment' aspect and Louis ending up in the coffin. Given what Armand went through in TVA after he was taken by the Roman coven, I think the whole starvation thing was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Of course, the 'months' Santiago mentioned also included all the time he was out there on his crazed homicide spree before he put his plan in motion.
@jaginaiaelectrizs63412 күн бұрын
Hypothetically, Armand would have to wait until the coven stopped paying such close attention to what Armand was/wasn't doing-and/or to what was or wasn't going on with Louis. Depending on whether or not Armand told the truth about having been tortured and such by the coven, he also may have had to wait until he himself had healed up and regained his strength enough to do so. Hypothetically, he may also simply have just had to wait until Louis stopped screaming, because so long as Louis was screaming[ either telepathically or otherwise] the whole dang coven would know if/when Louis suddenly stopped too soon[ for any reason other than losing strength/will/whatever naturally] or would hear it if Louis' screaming self was being moved from one place to another. But theoretically, Armand maybe also could have lied about everything and maybe could have still been the coven leader the whole dang time, in which case he could have done literally whatever he wanted whenever he liked and may simply have left Louis in the box exactly long enough to try and push Louis in whatever direction he wanted to try and push Louis(either toward being grateful enough to possibly take Armand back and/or resentful enough of Lestat to not want to go back to Lestat or whatever else). (( We also don't actually know if Armand was, in fact, willing to let Louis die or not-we don't know what kind of backdoor schemes or deals or plans Armand might or might not have actually had going with whom or why. We don't know if he agreed to let Lestat make the crowd choose banishment in exchange for something, or if Armand silenced the vampires other than Santiago while Lestat took over the human audience, or what. We only know that Daniel speculated that Armand had planned for Louis to die...because that is what was scripted and rehearsed to happen. But we don't know if or what actually went on or not behind the scenes beyond that. )) We'll see what direction the tv series actually takes it in or not, though. 🙂

Louis says something like, "Fine, we'll leave it blank. Wait for revelation to arrive." Then in this episode, after the revelation, he slams Armand into that wall.

"Does the fledgling get the same (eye color) as the maker?" I don't think necesarily. Since Louis's are green (after he's turned) and Lestat's are violet/gray/blue. 1:43:44 Mockumentaries (fake documentaries like Spinal Tap) I've loved all your reactions (even if I didn't always agree on your takes). You started your IWTV journey around the same time I did. Can't wait to come back for Season 3! (and good luck with the move!)

1:41:32 my theory for now is that due to the talamasca making Daniel take out certain information from his book that maybe with removed information it looked more like Armand was telling the truth? Idk ALSO the logo is V L for vampire lestat

1:22:48 - Yaasss, an absolutely Armand thing to do. "If you kill him, or hurt him in any way...." _'Ok, how about if I just turn him, then- Does that or does that not count?'_ (I could draw a parallel between this and something Lestat once said to Armand versus what Armand actually did after, but....spoilers, for Book 2[, and who knows if that tiny detail will or won't actually make it into the tv series later on as well or what].😂😂) Talking to Armand is like talking to an old folkoric fae creature, I swear. You really gotta be so mindful sometimes of words and perspectives and such. Lol

I would say that, as far as Armand and the coven, two big motivating factors in him choosing them over Louis was 1.) Louis keeping Armand wondering if Louis' love was true, ("Why don't you want him to know how much you love him?") because of the trauma of his relationship with Lestat and 2.) Armand being burned by Lestat saying I love you but then abandoning him. So basically, (unless we find out otherwise in Lestat and Armand's backstory, which we might) both Louis and Armand were torn apart *before* the play by fears planted in them by Lestat. Weirdly, Lestat put so much into motion without knowing it. He put Claudia in a situation she had to kill her way out of, kept her and Louis ignorant of the Great Laws and the part he played in creating the new Paris coven, made them weak vampires, (yes, Louis and Claudia are weak because Lestat didn't give them enough blood) didn't teach them how to use their powers, and the nature of his relationship with Louis also caused Louis to stay away from the coven, causing friction with them. He's in no way responsible for the choices of other characters, (and if I was going to hang the situation just one character, it would be Santiago and his quest for Big Dick Energy, without which none of that would've happened) but Lestat had an enormous influence on Paris.

I knew you would be emotional from the time you found about what really happened during the trial and the reunion of Lestat and Louis and you did not disappoint. I wanted to give you a hug so bad! Now the wait for S3 begins and we finally get the brat prince, the rock star the Vampire Lestat in all of his preening glory!

THANK YOU for this epic run of reactions. Loved every second. Thank you for being so open and vulnerable about mental health too. As someone who's also gone through many of the things you spoke of, I'm really grateful when people destigmatise them. The heightened emotions in this show are such a good vehicle to talk about many, many topics such as these. And you caught those opportunities brilliantly. Your instincts about characters, their relationships, their traits, etc were pretty spot-on for someone who hasn't read the books. As many have probably told you by now, get ready for more of the beautiful butch queen that is Lestat, since he is the main focus of most of the subsequent books and truly the fictional love of Anne Rice's life. Love to hate him, love to love him, but there's definitely never a dull moment with that one 😅And yes (this is not a spoiler atp), he does become a rockstar, canonically. Just because he can. And no, we haven't seen the end of Louis, or Armand and Daniel (these two's relationship is another can of worms - and book fan favourite - which i won't get into here, but it's... something). Take care, good luck with the move, and i will be SEATED for season 3!

Dude this has been my favourite reaction to iwav. I've loved hearing all your insights. The way you've enjoyed and picked apart every character. I've seen some other reactions of people 'taking sides' so to speak and it gets a little frustrating when there are no right and wrong sides. The series is about these deeply human traits/traumas amplified through monsters. They all make awful and sometimes evil choices but we can see aspects of ourselves in them. I guess now begins the painfully long wait for season 3 😭 Two other TV shows I'd absolutely love to see you react to are Barry and Fleabag. They both delve into dark aspects of humanity with a lot of comedy.

So refreshing to see someone not just hate Armand and sideline him as super evil and also acknowledge his struggle to have to choose between his loyal coven and the man he loves (but can’t rely on) and that his love for Louis is real despite everything. Lots of people don’t give him much thought I fear or play down his complexity and the layers there are to his actions and feelings to make him the big villain and often also make Lestat look better when this is not a competition or anything 💀 None of them are perfect and they all deeply hurt each other in many ways.

1:28:41 - The thing you were missing was perhaps the reputation of Anne Rice's books[ apart from the movie] and the fact that those books were arguably the most culturally significant/influential piece of vampire fiction after Dracula that revolutionized vampires from mindless monsters to sympathetic villains and morally gray antiheroes and even tragic heroes forever, BEFORE Buffy and Twilight/True Blood/Vampire Diaries/etcetera, exaggerating maybe only slightly. You might have been less suprised, then. But who knows! Either way, it has been a true treat being allowed to watch your journey through this story, and I'm glad you took the chance on it!!! I for one will be sticking around, not only for your Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles / Immortals Universe adjacent content. There are several series your reactions I will probably come back for, whenever I either officially start rewatching them or finally watch them for the first time myself. (Like, Dark!)

The guy in the chair is a spotholder. Molloy is choking because Lestat has issues with the book. The song "Longface" is about Louis. Louis is around in "The Vampire Lestat" the concerts. Mark Johnson mentions during ComiCon that composer Daniel Hart is working with Sam Reid to produce a full song list for the character of Lestat. In the book, there is only one concert scene mentioned. In the series, several concert scenes are planned.

It wouldn't surprise me if the guy in the chair was one of Lestat's band-mates, standing in for Lestat so they could test the camera/lighting/focus/etcetera while waiting for Lestat to show up.

1:23:19 the eye color that a fledgling gets is completely random. The show actually changed what eye color Daniel had to make it more similar to Armands ... He had purple eyes in the book. So some book purists were a little bit upset that they changed Daniel's vampire eye color... But it is a really tiny detail that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things... But yeah the eye color is completely random Lestat has blue eyes, Louie has green eyes, Claudia has like orangey pink eyes that you can see a little bit more clearly in like behind the scenes photos her actresses. So yeah it's completely random, unfortunately. Lol you could be burdened with a completely weird eye color... But yeah the whole point is that the vampires have completely inhuman eye colors that are a vibrancy that doesn't exist naturally and it's absolutely a physical appearance detail along with their nails that make it so they can't comfortably interact with humans after they've been turned. So it's like a method of social isolation and otherness... That's kind of the reason why it's in the lore. Humans immediately see you and know that you are freaky and inhuman... So gloves and sunglasses help vampires to blend in a little bit... But there are still some body language stuff that can freak people out if they are paying attention in the way that vampires versus humans move around.
@mayaamis2 күн бұрын
I personally don't care they change such details from the book I just feel it's strange they went out of their way to give Louis green eyes just to honor the books, but not Daniel, cuz I'd love to see it. cuz purple eyes are probably most unique color ☺ they are all over the place with the contacts in the show hahaha

No matter how much shit people have been giving you since the beginning, your perceptions and reactions were perfectly in line with what we all saw at the time. Certain people with a borderline crazed obsession with any one particular character are the ones in need of perspective and not worth your peace of mind. You've been a joy to share this show with. I'm not a ''horror/slasher'' fan and I'm not a gamer but I'll be watching Dark with you as I've never seen it and it's more in the realm of what I normally like so I'm staying subscribed and following. Have a safe move--maybe a home tour when you're settled?

I finished season one before I discovered your channel, but I didn't start season two until after I found your channel. So, when I got to this episode I had already ridden along in the passenger seat for ur season one journey. As a result, when Lestat said to Louis "Did you hurt yourself" and I instantly, involuntarily wept I thought for a moment, "this moment is really gonna hit movieman when he gets to it too." I could just tell with the way you open urself up when u watch it that that moment would also be impactful. All of that is to say thank you for your reactions. It was a boon to have that in my mental back pocket, as it were, when I was having my own experience of that moment. You do great work here and you're very good at this. Liked and shared.

1:00:52 This is why you became my favorite reactor for this show. You completely understood Armand's position. And most people wrongly assume Armand wanted Louis dead. He gave no indication that he ever wanted Louis dead. From what I can gather from Assad Zaman's interviews and several other things, Armand did not particularly want to go along with this plan but felt he had no choice? I guess. "Wanting Louis dead" and "willing to let Louis die" are two different things. I think for additional context, it's important to remember that the ONLY reference Armand has of a full coven going against a single ancient powerful vampire was the Rome coven burning his maker Marius. He mentions it in the museum scene. I personally think he was definitely strong enough to kill his entire coven. I'm not sure if he himself knew that 100%. Armand is a survivor at his core. He will shape himself in any way he needs to to slither around situations like this. And he's terribly insecure. What he said was his reasoning made absolute sense to me. Armand's past really highlights his identity crisis and clinging to roles and structures to define himself. He might not like his coven members but he knows his role as the coven master and theatre director. He has had them for 200 years. For around 4 years they've been together, Louis gave him no indication that he was in love with him and would never leave him. He was always half in, and wouldn't join the coven, would read books during their performances, humiliated him when he contradicted Armand when he said they weren't companions, left a body in the park risking exposing them, flaunted his privilege around the coven who all had to adhere to the rules, broke the laws etc. Just putting Armand in a difficult position. And I believe him when he said he went with the coven's plan the night of Madeleine's transformation. They're on the steps, he says it's forbidden and they shouldn't do it, as we know making a new vampire is Armand's red line. He absolutely despises the notion. Louis shuts him up with a kiss, dismisses him saying make sure they weren't bothered, basically ordering the coven leader to be a watchdog against his coven while a member of his coven and his lover are gonna go do something he explicitly told them not to do. I think the last look in that scene in episode 6 after Louis leaves just shows Armand made up his mind. And if he knows there's a non zero chance he can get killed by the coven like his maker, or he does end up killing his coven for acting up and side with Louis, there's no guarantee Louis wouldn't up and leave him the next week, (because he also showed that he would adhere to Claudia's wishes over Armand's... regarding Madaleine ) he's not gonna take that chance. I don't doubt that Armand loved Louis in the twisted way that he knows and he saved him out of that vault not knowing he would see Louis again. He just wanted him alive and out of Paris. (the amount of times throughout episodes 2-3-4 Armand says the coven is upset with you, you need to get tf out of Paris... and Louis just… dismisses it… jeez) Louis asking him if he saved him at the trial caught him off guard, you can hear the long silence as he calculates his answer and when the opportunity presented itself he took it. And yes he ended up having his cake and eat it too lol. Even though his cake was misery flavored for the next 77 years for everyone involved. I know i went on a tangent but with the amount of sht that happens this episode and Armand's betrayal being the shocking reveal that it is, people dismiss Armand as always being evil and wanting Louis dead and the more subtle nuances of why he does what he does gets lost in the middle. I only figured out his side of the story in like my third rewatch. Watching scenes just from Armand's perspective really made me appreciate the storytelling even more.

I think you are at a good point with your feelings regarding Lestat. A lot of people that defend him are just people that have the information of the other books and for them Lestat is not only the evil guy that Louis portrayed him as. But at this point of the story you basically know nothing about this guy that is palpable. I love him from the books but I can’t expect people to love him when they’re reacting to an adaptation of IWTV and not the whole book series.

I also wonder if the coven was on to him helping Louis and focused on clouding his mind while Claudia was dying the same way they did to keep Claudia and Louis from talking and moving during the trial. If you look at him while he’s standing there before Claudia and Madeleine get burned, he looks like he’s struggling to stand still.
