Great review. My mom has shared a similar anecdote about her grandma opening presents very slowly and carefully. She thinks it's because in the great depression, even stuff like wrapping paper was expensive, so they tried to keep it nice to reuse it. Her grandma was also a hoarder. Merry Christmas!

Maybe the humans were just singing "Just One Person" as a Christmas carol and not necessarily saying they believed in "Oscar's ability to like what they like." But if they were, the song is very bad for a Christmas song because it has nothing to do with Christmas. That's like singing "Frosty the Snowman" on St. Patrick's Day.

Aw, I think Leslie Uggams and Oscar would make a cute couple! Think of the green-haired babies! The song she was singing was written by Leslie Bricusse, a very prolific English songwriter. I remember it being performed by Anthony Newley on one of his records. Bricusse also composed the songs for the 1967 "Doctor Doolittle" movie, which Newley starred in, and he and Newley wrote the lyrics of the title song for the James Bond movie "Goldfinger."
