Regarding Master Sol, it's another mark of bad writing when the writer needs you to hate an otherwise grey, neutral character, and so rather than building it up over the story, they either: Have the character suddenly commit a bunch or war crimes, suddenly reveal a ton of closets loaded with skeletons, suddenly have the cast and narration start vilifying the character. But in the case of the Acolyte, they couldn't even do that properly. They tried to vilify Sol for casing the death of OSHA's mother and the deaths of the witches, but the plot unintentionally justifies his actions: The witches were the aggressors, and the mother decided to peacefully turn into a smoke demon in front of Sol and start disintegrating Mae. And yet the plot still expects you to side with OSHA and Mae like Sol just committed this unforgivable sin.

Let's also not forget that Torbin was essentially sexually assaulted by an older stranger and wanted to do everything possible to leave the planet and get away from her. The most interesting plot was the Imperial Intelligence trying to suss out the embers of the start of the Rebellion and the mains in that were much more interesting than Andor himself. Also, R1 makes the Rebellion morally dubious, and it doesn't become the good vs. evil Rebellion that we see in Star Wars (1977) by the end of that film.

The Acolyte has its issues without a doubt. But lets not sit here and act like Episode IX didn't happen. That's still the absolute worse thing Disney Star Wars has ever created.
@tomhaas70785 ай бұрын
I actually think the Acolyte is equal or worse to the Rise of Skywalker. Yes, TROS takes Anakin's accomplishments away from him and gives them to them a Palpatine to continue the Skywalker legacy. The Acolyte, though, undermines Anakin's creation through the force having Osha and Mae being concieved the same way. I can also put basic motivations on the characters of TROS. I can't say the same for the Acolyte. The Acolyte also introduces force memory erasure, which is insane. That force power alone breaks so many things in Star Wars. At least we can say that the Dyad in TROS is extremely rare and that there is a good chance that such a connection could never be made again.

The actions of Bazil when he sabotaged the ship were completely inexplicable. There was no foreshadowing, no hints, no rationale - nothing. It's one of those things that didn't necessarily have to be spelled out to the audience, but at least had to have believable hints that the character would act in that way. There was nothing. It's indefensible. Headland's pathetic excuses to justify it are abysmal too, and screams that it's somebody who had no attention to detail with their own story and simply did things when they needed to happen regardless of logic. It's the same as Mae leaving Qmir to surrender to the Jedi but then completely flip that on its' head a bit later - nothing is given to the audience as to the 'how's and why's' of the motivation. A pathetic show, truly one of the all time worst.

I can't tell you a single name or anything about these characters because the show doesn't put it's characters first. I forgot about this show the next day I saw it because of how boring and uninteresting it was. This is a common trend with all these star wars and marvel shows, they are 6+ episodes, 40+ mins each episode (WHICH is way too long for any TV show if you ask me) which makes it feel that much more stretched out and unnecessary filler. You can trim these episodes to under 30 mins. Disney does this to have more viewership and longer subscriptions as opposed to keeping it short, simple, and to the point as squidward once said. This whole show is an exercise in spite: for George, the fans and Star Wars itself. KK encouraged Leslie because it was just the show she wanted, filled with "powerful women" who commit atrocities and are seen as being the victims, while actual victims (like Torbin who had his mind invaded and was permanently scarred for life) are killed, and they want us to applaud that. Leslie even said that in the Finale Osha and Qimir are staring out over the ocean, ready to "burn the galaxy down" but the fact that they can't is a tragedy. This show's moral compass is completely wrecked, and yet there are still people who think that Star Wars is thriving. The only good thing is that, for its $180 million budget, after the 3rd episode it disappears from the Nielsen and Luminate charts for the rest of the season. My only hope is that, not only does it NOT get a 2nd season, but the numbers are so bad that Bob decides to Willow this show (purge it from D+ and get a tax write off). Now will that happen? Unlikely, but at this point Star Wars isn't going to be good any time soon, so long as KK and her ilk are running things.
@ivorytorea5 ай бұрын
Yes, this is an important comment, there is damage done to the canon and the idea of George Lucas. And Disney absolutely is wild about destroying civil public discourse with their ideology over who has sovereignity over interpreting art. And obviously mostly this kind of filmmaking seems only like an exercise in the art of tax write-offs. But there this is a topic that far too few critics and literally none of the defenders of the show actually pick up on - the messages it wants to send out. Imagine someone struggling with those thoughts seeing Torbins end and having the show paint it as an act of justice and the sole solution for his state of mind. Or the way this show takes away all hope from Star Wars just to spite George Lucas and misinterprets Jedi as balancing good and evil while the whole point of why kids could look up to the Jedi was because living up to the name of Jedi was all about casting out the dark side from their minds. Meanwhile the main character watches someone commit unforgiveable crimes and joins him in an act of self liberation? because he dropped his pants? That´s enough to ditch someones moral compass? Well yes, appearently, if there never was one to begin with, but in real life we call those horrible people or the hollywood crowd. And then in the final episode, with both twins, it basically sends the message of how to get away with murder and how self serving justice is somehow a triumph for the...for the who exactly? Because those characters are basically self inserts for the actors and the showrunners, they sacrificed the Star Wars ideology to write their multi million dollar behinds into the show to have people applaud their "tragic suffering", so they definitely want to send out a real life message, but what is that message other than "not having a moral compass rules, making other people suffer is and doing crimes is not bad, it´s just a matter of opinion". This show is actively sending out harmful messages and far too few people pick up on that.

The show cost 300 million. When the tax documents come out, you can come back here and thank me. 2nd. The reason the twins were in the show is because Leslye Headland wanted it to be frozen for some reason. The reason the acting is so bad is that she actually wrote the part for Amandla who she was stalking for five years while she was under age. This is from her own words by the way. My supposition is the apology for having the affair with Stenberg was the part of Vernesta for for Headland’s extremely untalented wife. This entire production had NOTHING to to do with telling a good story.

They killed Star Wars with TLJ and ROS, RESURRECTED IT with the first two seasons of Mando, only to kill it AGAIN with Mando s3, Kenobi, Acolyte, most of Boba… Even when something solid like Ahsoka comes out or awesome like Andor, it’s hard to be exited when the whole canon is so very ruined.

If anyone is interested in Sith lore, I recommend the KZbin channel Order of Rage. Disney simply hands out hundreds of millions in money to undeserving people. The company cares more for the merchandise that Star Wars sells over actual historical lore that fuels the merch. I thought the show would take place centuries before The Phantom Menace, not during times of peace and stability but during the height of the Sith Rule over the galaxy. It could've been ambitious and given the director room to create their own narratives. Instead, they decided to step on the toes of those who came before them and try to add on to what is already established lore. What's so terrible about that is, they did it in the most uninspiring way imaginable. The Acolyte was meant to showcase the power and seduction of the Darkside of the Force while showcasing just how dangerous a threat even one Sith is to stability. None of that was on display throughout this series. It wasn't made for people like me who've followed Star Wars most of our lives. I'm sorry I ever believed that Disney could get that right, and I'm sorry I ever watched this show.

Gotta love how people at the turn of the century just hated on the Prequel movies for introducing stuff that _supposedly_ ruined the world of the Original Trilogy (despite the fact that Midi-chlorians are _actually good_ and in fact fix several worldbuilding issues - Sheev Talks went into more detail on that), yet The Acolyte - a prequel _TO the Prequels_ - thinks that it deserves praise for doing exactly what the Prequel Trilogy was falsely accused of doing. Man, oh man...

What about those of us who think the prequels and the sequels and the Acolyte and most of the other shows *all* suck? Represent! 👋
@studentt60644 ай бұрын
I don't think midichlorians were needed to explain much at all, however the prequels get memed on because most of the individual dialogues aren't great, and honestly padme accepting that anakin just commited mass murder is incredibly out of character for a character that is portrayed as a steadfast protector of the people. The overall idea and vision of the prequels was alright, just the execution in certain parts was a bit lacking. Which is the exact reverse problem the sequel trilogy had, which had good visuals and individual scenes work out decently well but the overarching plot of the trilogy (or even within one movie) is just straight-up non-existent or nonsensical. Basically if the sequels had a director that actually had a clear-cut vision for a trilogy, or Lucas listened a bit more to some editors for individual writing in certain scenes, both would probably have been massively improved.
@mrreyes50044 ай бұрын
@@studentt6064 Unfortunately, the Midi-chlorians were needed. Because without Midi-chlorians (I.e., going by purely what we know from the Original Trilogy films), you have MASSIVE worldbuilding problem that Palpatine should have raised ARMIES of Force-sensitive soldiers before Luke got involved with the Rebels. Before the introduction of Midi-chlorians, there was really nothing saying that all random people couldn't just train to be as powerful in the Force as Luke or Vader (I.e., Han, Lando, etc). It also proves that lots of Star Wars "fans" were idiots for claiming that Midi-chlorians were racist or eugenics or whatever BS. Because, the fact is, the introduction of Midi-chlorians was necessary to explain why only a small portion of total characters are able to use the Force. Without Midi-chlorians, it becomes a gaping plot hole that Emperor Palpatine didn't raise a whole army of Force-sensitive Stormtroopers in the OT, as well as why Obi-Wan said that Luke specifically was the only one who could train to defeat Vader instead of just training any other farm boy from countless other planets. I completely agree about the Sequels, though. They could've been great... but it was such a waste.

@@mrreyes5004 Why? Even in fantasy it's a popular trope that not everyone has magical affinity, it doesn't need to be explained at all.
@mrreyes50044 ай бұрын
@@studentt6064 Yes, it does. Because unlike most magic fantasy, the Force is _EXPLICITLY_ not abstract magic. People meme about "mAgIc SpAcE wIzArDs", but both Yoda and Obi-Wan in the very first movies explained clearly that the Force is connected to ALL living things in the form of tangible energy. And "all living things" includes Han, Chewie, Lando, Ackbar, etc. Before the Prequels were created, there was literally no explanation for why any fodder Rebel or Stormtrooper couldn't be a great Force-user like Luke. Even then, just because it's a popular trope _doesn't_ mean that it's a universal trope. In One Piece, anyone can learn 2/3 types of Haki by just training. In Fairy Tail, literally everyone is born with the potential for magic, and it's just that only a few actually train to become capable wizards. In The Witcher, anyone can use simple witchcraft spells such as Signs, with only Sources being allowed to go further. Before the Prequels were made, Star Wars readily appeared to fall into this “everyone should be able to use the power system” category since no further limits about Force-usage were given. It made no sense why Palpatine didn't have an entire army of Force-sensitive Stormtroopers or why the Force was considered just an old legend in A New Hope. *TL;DR* If only specific characters can use the power system in fantasy stories, there does in fact need to be an explanation for it because that trope is not universal, and the Original Trilogy failed to deliver on that. Hence why the Prequels introduced Midi-chlorians to settle it, and it works greatly to explain why some characters can use the Force while other characters plain can't. Like I said, the channel "Sheev Talks" went into way more detail proving that in his video "The Phantom Menace - 25 Years Later" (1:26:11 - 1:30:19).

At this point I think MovieOverload and other content creators are shilling in the other direction. This show isn't nearly as bad as they are saying but they have to push that narrative to make the most money. The people I see "defending" the Acolyte usually give it between 5 and 7/10 which seems pretty reasonable as opposed to the Hate Grifters calling this the worst thing to ever exist in Star Wars, which is just blatantly not true lol.

The Jedi didn't do anything wrong? The Jedi broke into their home on 3 different occasions. The last time they broke in was explicitly against the mandate of the High Council and resulted in the slaugher of 50 women and a small child. Then they covered it up and placed all of the blame on one of the victims. They were NEVER supposed to be there. Are you SURE that you turned your brain on?
