Human weapons don't usually have special locking fire modes, beyond normal safeties, even in long running battles where weapons are being captured and used against one of the combatants. Although in a planetary invasion situation, it might make sense to design something specifically for this war, that you wouldn't use for a human/human or this alien/this alien battle.
