I think it's pretty obvious that the whole this was part of the simulation. Why on Earth would NASA wish to over complicate what should be a controlled setting ... i just don't know. I'm honestly surprised we haven't done any experiments or reality shows like this. Where people are tasked with staying locked up for months. The effects on the people would be valuable data. Maybe they don't do it bc we have ample data like from ISS, and from submarines or even ships. We know what happens to people, so maybe it does make sense that NASA would want to add some variables like crazy locals, depleting resources, etc

I never said men and women cant work together, I was a teacher for almost a decade, 95% of my coworkers were female. The back ups tend to become the primary choices on future missions or they've already been. I think that Apollo astronauts were switched around due to chicken pox and also a broken leg / arm. I'd have to look up results but iirc it began after the deaths of the Apollo 1 astronauts.

Having only one female who's also an ex could lead to DISASTROUS results in such a scenario. Best you have an equal pairing otherwise jealousy is going to easily ensue. Although even then you'd likely still have issues. However, if it was all dudes, you run the risk of having a prison scenario with guys trying to bust another's cheeks unwillingly. Yeah I know the international space station doesn't have such issues necessarily but their stints are only 6 months (maybe pushed to 12 months). But they KNOW they're going back to Earth after their time. Mission to Mars? Waaay longer since they could be there for many years which changes the psychological ramifications as the game is changed for all the participants.

​ @readhistory2023 That may seem true on the short term but time changes all things - including one's mental state. Remember Matt Damon's character in Interstellar dooming everyone to the dead planet so he could just have company? Totally legit. Time erodes everything and when it's combined with psychological stress that doesn't wane it will end in disaster. And with that the human mind tends to decay to a handful of various states. The prison mentality is absolutely one of them. Also, altruism on the side of the scientists is just an assumption as to why someone would go on such a mission. I'm not even sure if that would be the best psychological profile. Many would take that mission simply to get away, start a new life, see the unknown, etc. as their driving force, not for anything "good". Astronauts aren't inherently good people either btw they have their dark histories like any other slice of people.

I say the boss had turned off survelance to have a surprise when he sees them win. But cameras didn't reveal the dead bodies immediatly allowing the winning presentation to continue. The key evidence they entered bunker with normal earth gravity they couldn't upright it for launch. Boss would be found liable as he disrupted air flow disorienting them for long enough to have them not responsible for thier actions.

Cole wasn't wrong to not want to take the multiple vaccines (given the circumstances they all initially thought they were in). If it's a simulation that was prepared specially for them and is being controlled and observed from the outside then why do they need vaccines? Aren't they all supposed to be given a clean bill of health before entering the simulation anyway (just as they would if it was real)? If I were ordered to take multiple rounds of vaccines after entering the simulation I would immediately nope out of it because that means they're probably planning on releasing something into the simulation that wasn't originally discussed.

Keeping endings open is all fine and dandy but if you’re leaving several thousand loose ends, it goes from “I wonder what happened?” To “none of the questions were answered!” It’s lazy, it’s boring, and it completely ruins the movie.
