Thanks Marianna for showing us what you return to over and over. It's interesting to me that the oldest film on your list The Princess Bride is from 1987. But it makes me realize, as I am sufficiently older than you, that I am the product of an older film culture. And we had an entirely different way of watching films. Also for me what I find myself coming back to like comfort food doesn't correlate with my favorite films, which I often wait to savor at special moments. So for instance I have watched The Devil Wears Prada many times, but the film wouldn't make my top 200. I came of age at the end of the repertory theatre era, just as VHS was coming in. When the cool theatres would show a mixture of recent films, old Hollywood classics, foreign films, obscure art films and even silent films. Often two or three in an evening. So I developed a real love for all eras of cinema history. So with that in mind... here are a few films that I find eminent rewatchable, some are favorites, some are just entertaining popcorn fare, for moments I don't really want to think. No special order... Casablanca, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Last time I watched it I started with the extended versions of the Hobbit, and was worried that it would spoil the TLOTR. But nope!), Groundhog Day, Punch and Judy (A short puppet film by Jan Švankmajer at least 50 times!) Stalker (8 times in the theatre even before the VHS came out), The Elephant Man (13 times in the theatre before the VHS came out), Bring It On (Go figure) The Seven Samurai, Shawshank Redemption, The Street of Crocodiles (20 minute puppet animation by the Quay Brothers), Jack the Giant Killer (1962), Beetlejuice, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, 42nd Street (1933) The Maltese Falcon, My Man Godfrey, Zodiac and lots more. (My collection is kind of huge.) Anyway thanks for sharing.
@ImpressionBlend5 жыл бұрын
See, the thing is sometimes there are great films that you only watch a few times, and films that aren't masterpieces that are somehow really rewatchable (like you mentioned with "The Devil Wears Prada"). So there definitely is a bigger "decade variety" in my favorites, but they aren't necessarily films I watch as often as some others (or I just don't own them yet). I do wish theatres showed older films more often, there are some classics I would LOVE to experience on the big screen.
@TheAnadromist5 жыл бұрын
@@ImpressionBlend Indeed. Jaws, Carrie, and especially the original King Kong are transformed on the big screen. And I don't watch Stalker and the The Elephant Man as much now, because I like to savor them. Thanks again for sharing with us.

@MFM2302 жыл бұрын
@@notimportant3686 By chance, do you have sisters? People who have siblings of the opposite sex often demonstrate emotive qualities of the opposite sex: men who are more emotive and women who are more assertive. Arrival is not exactly a stereotypical sci-fi movie that men, who would prefer action movies, would like. The movie essentially could be subtitled, "Hannah's Story;" it is about a child who is destined to die from an incurable disease. Preferences are without judgment, so it is fine "not to get it."

The answer is YES, YES TO ALL of the videos you asked about making 😁 I know I've said this before but, you get me. I watched Black Swan 7 times in theaters so you can imagine how much I've seen it at home. Movies that I watch can't stop year watching are: The Matrix, The Crow, Scream, The Craft, Love Actually, The Bourne trilogy (I don't watch the last entry so much), Her, La La Land, Lion The Professional, Closer (what A CAST!), Panic Room, Inside Man, The Brave One (which would be super polemic nowadays), Fight Club, Snatch, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Gone In 60 Seconds, The Raid, Sunshine and of course MCU films, specifically the Spidey Ones! There's tons more but you mentioned some of my favorites so, no need to repeat. BEAUTIFUL VIDEO! ALso, Frank Darabont is the best filmmaker to adapt King's work followed now by Mike Flanagan, in my opinion.

Thank you! We have so many of the same favorites, but I'm particularly happy to see "Closer" on your list-NOBODY talks about this movie, and I think it's great. Also "Her", love that one so much!

Incendies is one of the greatest movies ever made. I was shaking as the credits rolled.

Not seen a couple of these like The Holiday and some other one...but the rest it’s like, “Yes!”. You have great taste in movies :) LOTR are also the ones I saw in theaters that blew me away and introduced me to the Epic film genre. Totally transported you into the world of the film. That is very rare.

I often rewatch religiously "The Lion King 3". I don't know why, but I love Timon and Pumbaa's dynamic in this movie. The way you feel about "Devil Wears Prada" and "About Time", this is my "spirit uplifter". Jodie Foster's "Money Monster" is a thriller that I quite enjoy and Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" (3 or 4 times in the theatre).

Unbreakable. It's slow, dreary, and kind of depressing, but there is literally no other film like it in existence.

Hi Mariana. Love your videos. I am a movie buff/watcher. Your videos are spot-on. I watch H8 frequently. I saw it first when it came out in the giant theatre The Hollywood in Portland Oregon. There are 2 upstairs small theatres which are fun too and intimate. I missed getting the opening night ticket, Christmas Day. Sold out so I saw it Sunday. Tarantino surprised everyone, he showed up opening night. Darn. So Sunday. Every seat was filled. It was introduced by the director of the theatre. Short introduction. The movie started. Thrilling! from start to finish. Completely quiet. From chapter to chapter to end. Then long applause. I wanted to see the opening of OUATIH as I refer to it as at the Hollywood too, in the same huge room and a same large audience but I was in Vegas. Saw it later in the Hollywood, maybe my 3rd of something like 15 theatre viewings. I am stuck on that movie. Like others. Like Frantic. Harrison Ford, Roman Polanski. Hey, there is a connection.

The Hateful Eight isn't a masterpiece by any stretch, but it still has that old-school sense of justice and rough edges of anything can happen that gives it authenticity - something a lot of modern movies lack, IMHO. :P

I'd ❤️ to see what you would pick from the Criterion Closet. Glad I discovered your channel today. Nice to be talked to instead of yelled at.🎃

got the exact same feeling about "hateful eight" even thought it's quite bloody and unsettling at times, still very cozy and, in some specific way, warming movie, especially in cold winter evening

Thumbs up for Arrival. I remember reading Ted Chiang's "The Story of Your Life" and thinking to myself "I'd love to see that story as a film but it'd be a challenge to pull off". I had somewhat low expectations for it but was pleasantly surprised with Arrival: great cast, great direction, sound design and music. Watched it multiple times and still re-watch it from time to time. Great collection overall
