Trivia: the line "he's a friend from work" wasn't in the script. On the day they were filming that scene, a Make-A-Wish kid was hanging out with them on set. Chris Hemsworth was chatting with him between takes and the kid suggested he add that line to it. And it turned out to be one of the best lines in the whole movie! Fun trivia: Marvel wanted to do an orchestrated version of "Immigrant Song" for the climax and the band was like "lol no" so we got a second run of the original track. Anthony Hopkins was great in this role. He could have been lazy and half-hearted being way too big for these movies, he could have been super-'extra' and kind of made it camp, but he played Odin with sincerity to the material, and that last scene was just pitch perfect fatherly advice in a scene
@christopherlundgren17003 жыл бұрын
That's too bad. I think an orchestral remix at the call-back would have been sick. I always thought it was kind of an odd choice to use the same track twice, even though it's still awesome. I think ACDC's Thunderstruck would be another perfect track for a future Thor appearance.
@noodle_fc3 жыл бұрын
@@christopherlundgren1700 Fun fact, Thunderstruck is about getting laid by someone who is really good at fucking. "And I was shakin' at the knees / Could I come again, please?" There's no denying it's a kickass riff, but on soundtracks, it's incongruous if you listen to the lyrics, like Fortunate Son, American Woman, Born in the USA, Every Breath You Take, and a few others I can't recall at the moment.

9:27 - Hela closes a plot hole. The gauntlet was glimpsed in Odin's vault in the first Thor movie, before they decided they wanted to go in a different direction with it. (For other plot-hole-closings, watch the Marvel One-Shots!!)
@FOXCYBORGNINJA3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t see it as a plot hole. I actually saw Odin keeping a replica around for him as a constant reminder of power corrupts absolute power corrupts absolutely. I saw him keeping the Tessaract on earth as a way of him keeping close enough to keep an eye on it but not close enough to tempt him in order to prevent any other malevolent beings from getting their hands on the infinity stones. I also saw him not forging Stormbreaker as the same thing to prevent him from falling into his old ways. He fought full power Surtur for three days before using the special reality warping magic unique only him to basically give him the universe’s biggest cosmic slap knocking Surtur’s crown off and then Bfrosting home.

Follow up to learning a fun word with many meanings. When you were looking for the word for how the scene is setup and shot, one of the words you could have been looking for is: composition. Composition is generally the design of the frame, so where actors and props are placed for the shot, how it is lit, what movements the camera and actors are going to make, etc. A big part of being a director is managing this to capture the emotions and ambience you want.

Thor Ragnaok is one of my favourite Marvel movies because it wholeheartedly embraces the absurdity of comic books. Thor is a ridiculous character, and Taika Waititi's version of him leans in hard on that. I'm cool with a more grounded take on, say, Batman (eg Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy) but Thor just isn't a character that's suited to that format. Ragnarok is a beautiful tribute to how comic books (and their adaptations) can embrace high concepts and tell a moving and engaging story, while still acknowledging the cartoonishness of the medium.
