In the Divine Comedy, Dante describes Hell as a place where each person keeps himself, through his inability or unwillingness to let go of the sins that brought him there. In that story, Hell has no actual gates; anyone has the power to leave, but no one does.

To me, the true measure of how great the original Twilight Zone is.. if you get 10 people who've seen them all to list their own "top 10", you might wind up with 40+ "best" episodes. Very few "so-so" episodes...which is remarkable.

Personal gain of wealth without effort is the problem with his situation. In life, he tried to gain wealth by stealing, robbing and even killing thinking his life would get better. Rocky had no ambition to put his nose to the grindstone and earn his wealth honestly. There is nothing wrong with being wealthy. It's what one does with it that is important. When you work for it, you appreciate it more. Rocky wanted to take the easy route, and when his chance to do so came along, he discovered too late how empty it is.

The joy of recommending episodes of the Twilight Zone is that there are so many great ones, you don't even mind when your own doesn't make the cut, chance are whatever you pick will be something special. For me I have a fondness for 'Third from the Sun'. It doesn't rank that high on most people's lists, but I feel it has a quietly disturbing atmosphere, some great tension and some excellent acting. 'Long Live Walter Jameson' is also one I'm very fond of, and A Stoop at Willoughby. Pretty much all the ones people are listing in these comments are equally valid, though! Great reaction and please keep these coming! But please be aware if you ever find yourself continuously reacting to events in front of you, helpless to do anything but offer opinion, emotional response and conjecture to each and every occurance that befalls your senses in a non-stop stream of feverish analysis then you, yourself, might just be in... The Twilight Zone. (Ba-dummmm!)

Larry Blyden, the star, deserves a word. He was a phenomenal actor who gave a knockout performance in the 1959 TV drama "What Makes Sammy Run?" He also gave a fine performance in another Twilight Zone episode, "Showdown with Rance McGrew."

Hi Mia, I continue to enjoy your ‘Twilight Zone’ series. I read your comment that you’ll be doing first season episodes, since that’s what you have access to, for the time being. There are a number of great episodes in each season, including the first one. My personal pick for the first season ‘standouts’ (that you haven’t already reviewed) are: - the hitch-hiker - mirror image - the monsters are due on maple street - a world of difference - a stop at Willloughby - a world of his own Most of the episodes above have tension and high-drama, with stakes that are through the roof. “A world of his own,” is exceptionally good when you’re in the mood for a delightful, light-hearted romp (with some “bonus action” in the episode by Rod Serling, himself. It was a great way for him to close out the first season. :)
