Unfortunately and sadly, I don’t have that option because both my parents passed away. I’m doing alright, but I have to be smart and careful how I spend money. I built up enough to live off of for 3+ years. If you have the ability to move back in with your family, take the opportunity! Best wishes to all out here.

Im not American but my husband and I own where we live because we both lived with our parents until we got married. I was also able to pay off my student loan. We did contribute to our parents household though. It can be difficult because im my case i moved back to my home country after university and felt like a child again but i definitely wasn't going to pay a rent when i could be paying debt or saving that money.

The problem happens when your adult kid wants to have zero responsibility, no chores, have their sleepers, and tell you what they are not going to do like look for a FT job, when you try everything to help them save money including paying some of their bills. Sometimes it's hard being a parent, especially when you've remained single for so long trying to make kids your priority just for them to say you worked too much or they didn't ask to be born. But, if the parent tgink about telling their 30 year old to leave or say they want to start living their life, then they're selfish.

It's a smart move as long as you understand why you're moving back. Bunk beds?

Joining the military is smart. Having your wife take advantage of her military spouse preference is even better.

It's how a lot of us lived. I was born in 1968. I was on my own by age 17. I never had ANYONE to fall back on. 2024: I'm successful, I don't whine, I take care of my family, I never feel helpless because no matter what else, I have ME.

Given the rent and house prices I think that comment is grossly unfair. Young people l, I believe, are trying but its hard when you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel

I work 40 hrs a week and live with my folks, in 2019 I had an apartment and saved up 15K for a down payment on a house after 2 years of saving, which back then they were selling for around 150K to 200K, which I could afford. By 2022 my rent was almost doubled and housing prices are on average over 400K here. I was priced out of the housing market and the rental market all at once. You need to make at LEAST $25 an hour to live the minimum level of comfort and not go into debt. I dont make that much, very little ppl where I live make more than 25 an hour at a normal job.
