Cracks me up every time a cow starts poking around a camera.. that one actually made me jump. Thought I was getting licked in the ear for a second there. Lol.

Great video. The silo is really impressive. It seems you have a bit of sadness in having to send the older animals off to their next phase of life. Thanks again for a super video.

With the cows with the crossed teats, try crossing the milker when she is put on and tie the cable around kick bar and milker hose. It will help her milk better

Week old calves are bringing big money right now in the Midwest. But your price is the highest I've heard so far. Nice sound fleshy culls are bringing over a buck a pound. Beef is good property.

@josephbennett348210 ай бұрын
Wow Eric it's about time that you finally got yourself a telehandler I've been saying about one for a long time, it's going to be of great use for your feed mixer instead of using the bobcat which has limited reaching capability.

For a second, when you were showing the roof being put on, the new silo looked like it had a mad lean!!! Then I realised you were just holding the camera at a jaunty angle! 🤣

I can't figure out why you don't put a bottom unloader in that silo. The pressure of 24 x 132 ft of haylage or cornsilage is going to be put the bottom 30ft so tight in there- rockhard - you top unloader will have a really hard time getting that last 30 ft out. Also constantly having to climb 130 ft (!!!!!) up to adjust the unloader on its way down. I wished you would discuss that aspect with your dad as well. 130 ft up will happen several times. I would like to hear your opinion about that. Also having that feedcart ( from Lely) to move in between barns in the winter time- with snow or in the pouring rain? Why don't you just buy a much larger TMR mixer and feed once a day - like we do with very good results.
@10thgenerationdairyman10 ай бұрын
I'll discuss bottom unloaders in a future video. Multiple reasons we want to avoid them. Feeding once a day can give good results but we think this will give us even better results.

Ya Got Me! 0:46 "let's see how i did?" Spot on! The jockey wheel is on the brick dead on!! 👍👏 hugely impressive. Then i realised, you werent' reversing the trailer in... doh 🤦♂ i'm such a donut 😂
@michaelhollstegge544410 ай бұрын
Awesome viedo as always! Quick question: Why do you not fix the heifers in the feeding fences while moving them from one group to the next one and only set those free which need to go to the next group? That way sorting is easier and you can even do it alone :)
@10thgenerationdairyman10 ай бұрын
We do that sometimes but it's usually not too much trouble just to chase them.

He could put metal frames, trusses, header walls on the top of the cement walls, metal roofs and make them barnes. Store all the equipment in one, make another into a work bay and the third a office space for eric with a basketball court and a walk in cooler for his chocolate milk and mountain dew.

It's amazing how you get 1 on trailer an the rest pile in.
@josephbennett348210 ай бұрын
Cows are herd animals they instinctively follow each other and if it's a routine they do then they also follow their routine but many farmers don't put their livestock on a trailer too often since it's not necessary once they are on the farm they're usually there until they die.

im curious. why are silos built high in stead of wider? would the balance of height and wight be the most cost effective build?
@10thgenerationdairyman10 ай бұрын
Narrower silo gives us a faster feed out rate so fresher feed. Also 24 ft unloaders are easier to maintain than 30 footers.

@josephbennett348210 ай бұрын
Because the tag is the tracking number for the animal so the meat processing facility knows where the animal came from in case of an undetected disease is noticed in the animal after it is killed and slaughtered they can contact the farmer and let them know what they discovered so the farmer can check the other livestock.
