Salvage Workshop

Күн бұрын

One of the biggest things you need A LOT of when you start getting into the all the large equipment I keep dragging home is: SPACE!
So today's plan is to make more of it out behind The Salvage Cave!
We'll move a couple LARGE concrete pads, dig out a Massive Mulberry stump, and build a large berm with all the left over dirt we dug out from the SWAMP we took care of in the previous video!
As with any project where you use old machines, there is always something to fix or maintain!
Today we use my 1965 Allis Chalmers 645 Articulated Wheel Loader, Gehl 5625sx Skid Steer, and my Clarke Wheel Loader Forklift!
~
This is Part 8 of the series on Rebuilding "The Salvage Cave"
HAVE you SEEN this whole series?
Link to the PLAYLIST so you can watch ALL of the videos on The Salvage Cave Rebuild:
• RESTORING an OLD Shop ...
~
I hope you enjoy the video, and I look forward to hearing from you in the comments!
As ALWAYS, Thanks for Watching!
~
This building used to be a car repair shop. The extra space and room has been nice, but before I could use this shop as another workshop for the channel, a LOT of work needed to be done, including a new roof, better lighting, and much more! I have restored a variety of old tools and machines on the channel; now, it's time to restore an old shop. I spent the winter on this construction project, and I hope you'll enjoy following along. Join me on another adventure as I take an old, beat up shop and transform it into The Salvage Cave.

Next time you're going to need to shift a large heavy pain in the ass object like that slab of concrete, lift one end with the loader and throw a scaffold pole, steel pipe, log, or empty oxygen/argon/CO2 bottle under it to use as a roller. It worked for centuries before we invented the wheel, and it'll save you messing up all your hard work grading/levelling the site 😉It might take longer having to replace the roller every 10 feet or so, but it works!

My teeth began to itch as I watched him move the stove. He pulled, dragged, then leveled something with a shovel, but first he leveled everything with a rake. Is it really that hard to just put a stick in? Is it really that hard to just lift a chain? But he does everything "through the ass", perhaps this is the meaning of this "show".

Another idea would be to lay a couple of 2x4s down as a sort of runner. That way he could push just as he did without the front edge borrowing in.

All one has to do now is run a heavy piece of equipment over the PVC pipe covering the spring and crush the pipe. I bet you're smarter than I'll ever be. But, with the flood history on this property, I would have graded the lot on an angle away from the building down towards the creek. That way all run off water flows away from the building.

Yep, and I would have covered that basin with several layers of plastic to keep the top fill from working its way into the basin. I am talking about basically the size of a standard trash bag. I fact a heavy construction grade trash bag would have been perfect.

I would recommend driving a tall stake next to the inlet of the drainage pipe. With the amount of loose material in the lot, it might get covered in a heavy rain event and give you a positive place to re-open the drainage by digging. Just my opinion for what it's worth. Thanks for the video.

Absolutely even if it is just a small one quart oil jug, holding it on it's side gets the holes a whole lot closer before the liquid starts coming out. Often doing this removes the need for a funnel.

Looking GREAT! Can't wait to see what you're doing INSIDE the shop! If you plant grass seed, Shrubbery (maybe some kind of native edible berry?) or something similar on the berm - it should help stabilize it, so rain won't be able to wash it away long-term. And it'll look better too!

I would have used a weeping pipe (pipe with holes in it ) and a sock on the pipe so the dirt doesnt get into the pipe also dug it down deeper put in crushed gravel under and over the pipe then your dirt never have to be redone for a long time . I think yours will have to be re done sooner rather than later , my opinion still love that loader mabe get some forks for it .

Matt, do you know what you need? It's an excavator. That stump would be out in half that time when one of those machines was used. Knowing that it's out, there's no reason for the purchase of an excavator. Perhaps you might want to pull out more rotted trees in the future, so perhaps an excavator would be an excellent addition to that fleet of machines.

I'd like to have a big shop with lathes and enough equipment to run old trucks etc through it , completely strip them down repair the bodies the chassis , completely redo the drive trains and suspensions. Have them come out the other side with new paint running like new. It might take nearly a full on factory to do something like that on a large scale but it would be pretty cool. Maybe update all of them to run o biodiesel or fix them up like the military trucks that can run on used motor oil and the like. Have them practical and sturdy and easy to fix and find fuel for. That would be really cool.

Matt great job at the new shop. Sounds like you need to send the injectors and the pump to be rebuilt. The reason I say that is as low as the idle is any little air can get in the system and causing it to die. Got a question when are you going to get back on big red and the other tracked loader or are you going to bring them to this shop and finish fixing them?

You should leave the gap and concrete between as concrete is very weak if it is thin. I would suggest using plastic reinforced concrete so that whole joint has rebar knitted throughout. And with that beast to get tree stumps out, use a chain and lift them straight up.

Hello, when you dug up the tree root with the wheel loader, I noticed that your tire pressure on the rear axle might be a bit too high. If you were to reduce the tire air pressure a bit here, you would have more propulsive power. 👍

FWIW, with access to the equipment you have you should have no trouble raising the slab(s) to the levels you want. I have seen it done with car jacks and hi-lift farmer jacks but a wheel loader and skid steer ought to do the job just fine! Then build a frame around it to contain a concrete slurry mix that will run under the slab and, after it hardens, form a good base and effectively fill in the gaps around the slabs. A concrete company could surely advise you on the proper slurry composition and how long to let it cure. That would be interesting to your viewers as well, I expect.

Your stalling problems on that loader, are simple fuel starvation, which is why it would run for a moment then stall and getting progressively worse each time you ran it, it isnt anything on the injection pump side , something on the supply side is semi blocked, check the system all the way from the tank (including as daft as it sounds the filler cap vent) right through the fuel filters and the lift pump as far as the injector pump. you can almost guarantee it is between those points.

Nice to see people work. Great job clearing the land. Just a tip, you should dig a hole and put a concrete sewage pipe standing up as a well and fill the bottom with rocks, gravel and fabric so it wont block up (and a sewage lid on top). Easy to flush clean if it get stuffed and will lead the water away fast. The water channel you were about to make with perforated holes. Yes the holes should be on the bottom, BUT you have to use fabric and gravel to make a "sausage", look up french drain systems. Perforated pipe in the middle, gravel around the pipe, atleast 1 foot around it all and fabric around the gravel so its like a sausage. Looh this up: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIOncqWuhdJ-bpo
