I put up a Christmas tree every year from age 23 to age 74, after my partner died, I boxed up everything and donated it. I had enough decorations to do two nine-foot trees, and I have to say it's a relief not to own all that stuff. When and if I decide to put up a tree again, I will find a nice four-foot tabletop tree and be happy I don't have to go up and down a ladder to decorate it.

I'm so sorry for your loss. 😞 I completely understand though, I haven't loved holidays or decorating as much since my dad passed. Keeping it small and enjoyable has made a huge difference. I plan on getting a small tree this year. ♥️

Stuff pulls you down. It adds layers to your depression and make thinking of a way out of it too coma d confusing. I am going through the clean it, throw it, donate it or organize it😂. As it goes, I feel lighter and the layers in my mind feel lighter. No one can force you to do it. It has to be your decision. I have found people making remarks sets me back so far, sometimes to the very beginning. I have never known a nagger to make a difference in anything 🤗

LIBBY... As someone who grew up without remembering my biological father (he left when I was 6 months old), my advice would be to keep the pictures and tell Kelly stories about his father, but donate all the clothing. The clothes take up a ton of room and will not really hold any memories for your son. If there is a specific special item, keep it, but you don't need EVERYTHING. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Agree! Sounds like this young boy has no memories of his father so his clothes are useless. I have adopted a child (open) they don’t want random things from their parents. They want attention, affection and things they can associate with their biological parents. My child holds tightly to a baby blanket that her mother gave her but nothing that wasn’t given by the parent themselves.

My kids' dad & I moved 64 times in 16 years. His idea every time. When I rebelled after my 3rd child was born, he left. He emotionally left then, & before she was 3, he physically abandoned us. Then I met the real abuser. Take all the time you need to heal. It is only after you are on your own that you come to grips with how you were gaslighted. That's what narcs do: make it all about them, & everything is always your fault. God, it feels good to be on my own. At 72 I am finally ready to move on.😂 But my "dating pool" is now the "dead pool"🤣🤣🤣 so I am happily "dying alone" in peace and serenity.

I don't think I've ever commented on any of your videos. I have been in a similar situation as you and I just want to tell you how much I admire you. I'm so proud of you for talking about difficult things that most people actually (and thankfully) know nothing about, but not only that - even at times when you don't feel the slightest bit strong, you are. You are so much stronger than you think. Life doesn't give us much choice but to keep moving forward and you do it so damn well. I am so immensely proud of you Libby. Greetings from Hellyh, on the other side of the world - in little little Sweden. 🫶🫂🌼♥️😘

I’m so glad you got the tires. Your outlook was spot on-no one got hurt, the car didn’t flip, you didn’t have an accident…. having it shred safely was the best possible outcome. Glass half full, I always say. I’m looking forward to that day where you never have to go back to the apartment or see your ex again. I think your future is amazingly bright! 🎉❤

Hang in there Libby...you are doing great. Very sad to hear when someone has to move and give up their cats. After my first husband died I had 6 cats and one dog. I had to move in with a friend so the dog came to live with us along with one cat. The other cats went to stay at a friend's barn on a farm. Gradually over several years we lost the dog to heart failure, one cat had kidney failure, others from old age. Now I have married again and we only have a long haired Teddy Bear Hamster named Teddy Boy who is easier to take care. We still love our dog and cats and miss them everyday. ❤

You are doing a super job, you are stronger then you think and doing better then a lot of people. You are super woman when you need to be. I have a condo and I lived here going on 4 years and I still have not unpacked most of my house. My health has gotten worse and that’s main think. I am a procrastinator to I guess I don’t want to deal with it. My depression keeps me stuck in bed most days. My full time job now is going to doctor and test..your videos are helping me to see I’m not alone.❤🙏🏻☮️

Over 30 years ago I was in that predicament. A wise lady told me to buy $50 worth of groceries and write the check for $75. Start saving cash. I did not heed that information but was able to get out after a severe beating. The Lord took care of us. I was working but made very little. I know people don’t write checks anymore, but try to think of ways to set aside a little here and there. Hide it.

The tires were like the last straw, weren't they? Murphy's law, I guess. You could almost build a hut out of all the times you thought it was the last straw. Hopefully, it really is the last one, maybe 2. And you'll be done. You deserve a rest. And not to have any more deadlines for a while. You've done really good, Libby. Glad you had the support and help from your fine young son, your mom, and your sister. You're almost there. The finish line is just ahead.

So I have been donating alot of my belongings, shredding my papers and packing up the belongings that I'm keeping. While I'm doing all this, I'm also working. I always understood that you weren’t keeping Kelly’s father’s things for yourself but for future Kelly. However, for the items that he had no connection or memory to,the hats for example, you could take a photo of the group, and then just keep the one that you think was his favorite or represented him. (Because many times, the others were just freebies and didn’t mean anything to him.)I didn’t lose my own father when I was young like you were or your son was,but after he passed,I kept his old camera, because he was always taking photos, something awesome that he made in wood shop, and some of his tools because he built the house that I grew up in. In total,it wouldn’t fill a tote, but it is enough, because it all holds memories for ME.(I have even less of my mom’s stuff because she was a minimalist, thank goodness, but it is also enough for the same reason.) I once watched a KZbin video (Erica Lucas) where she was trying to decide what sentimental items from her own grandmother that she should save for her daughter. Her AHA moment was that grandma’s set of China was special to her because she remembered it being used at family gatherings, but wouldn’t be to her daughter because she had never even laid eyes on it. She decided to keep it on the condition that her family would use the dishes regularly (they had been stored in boxes and moved and stored for YEARS AND YEARS) so that her own children could make memories of their own and then decide to keep it or not in the future. I have heard of MANY accounts over the years that the ONLY item of clothing that a widow kept of her husband’s was his bathrobe or flannel shirt because she could wrap herself up in it and a child keeping one similar item of their parent’s clothing for the same reason. Of course everyone is different but someone else once said that if you keep a TON of stuff for memory’s sake, then NONE of it is special.🫤

Guys do like hats and wear a lot of them. If they aren't stinky and are in decent shape, I would keep them because they also don't take up much space. He exes other son is Kelly's half brother. Does he realize he has a brother?

You have done so much work. I think the smaller apartment will be good for you. You won’t be able to accumulate so many things, and tons easier to keep clean. You can make it a cozy space. I hope after you get your new apartment organized, you declutter some more, and also I hope you go through the things in your moms storage, and that you don’t leave it there for years. This way future Libby will have it so much easier. I hope you are enjoying the new apartment. I really enjoy your videos. They are so real.

Supposed to be a humane society. But their a kill shelter. They had this elderly cat on death row. So the girls ended up giving them money to house her longer. Plus they ended up paying her adoption fee. For someone else to adopt. She was meant for a one animal home. Love cats.❤

I have developed a few lenses through which I filter or prioritise items to keep or not. For example, does it give me joy? Nope, out it goes. Was it a gift, does it give me joy? Nope, out it goes. Gifts have always served their purpose in the giving and receiving process. There is no obligation to keep gifts. I always consider things i am keeping as costing me rent for the space they take. So if keeping costing me more money their purchase value and they dont give me joy...out they go. Haven't used the item in the last aporopriate season, out it goes. Haven't used an item in 18 months out it goes. Also consider the cost of purchasing items, the amount of time you've the item and divide the purchase cost by number of weeks owed. Most things considered in this manner have already paid their way and no longer have $ value...consequently are easy to get rid of. You can replace with updated new items if for example if bed or other items of furniture. Also consider an items shelf life. Things like fast fashion clothing, wrapping paper, shoes etc sort of need replacing seasonally.

The reason you have to pay $25 for $5 blinds is because the property management company has to pay someone to purchase the blinds and pay someone to hang the blinds. Definitely cheaper for you to replace them yourself. Think about how much you would charge someone if they asked you to purchase blinds for them and hang them. Probably at least $25 per blind. I know I would not do it for less than that.

Hi Libby, I believe it's best for you to speak to a child psychologist about those items you have kept of his biological father. Sometimes it's best not to know and if he is ever curious it's best to tell him rather than to give him personal items. You have no idea the effect it can create. I know from experience, no matter how mature children may be, it could be a front since he may feel the man of the house. Children are unpredictable sometimes. If you put him in charge of something like younger siblings or anything at all, they tend to resent whoever gave him or her that task. I know it's not your situation, yet some things we do as parents that seem to be ok with us, is not necessarily ok with them. Get a professional opinion because you don't want him to hold that against you or resent you for it.

I did video my feelings going through and updates…I plan on combine it w my experience in psychiatry as a doctor and tech, w my medical knowledge as a doctor, with infertility journey. Bc I want people to know they’re not alone. Thank you for this!!❤❤ Also I just wanted to caution you FFR- I volunteered w a shelter “that only put down aggressive animals.” They put down another perfectly fine animal or more every day just bc it’s been so long since they don’t have the room. But the animals who are shy or cry in the corner like your kitties sound- it seems like people choose those bc they feel bad for them, If that gives you any comfort. Apparently if you pay adoption fee for new owner, it is much easier and more likely for them to be recommended. But I know money is tight. Believe me, $44k in IVF fees nothing covered, and $600k in school loans. You did the best you could. That’s so sweet for you to leave his stuff jsit for Kelly. He seems like a sweet, helpful boy. He is always helping. Just shows what a good job you are doing with him, even alone. Bc of my eggs being destroyed by cancer tx despite being promised otherwise- w menopause predicted at 38/39. I am 37. It would be a miracle baby and I’d be a single mom by choice. I had miscarriages w prior partners which led (w other stuff) to 3 SAs. I left letters and all. Despite 15 years of therapy and 5 years of infertility therapy despite being mandatory with IVF for a therapist to attest to my stability, insight, reasoning, ability to accept outcomes…I believe I will be a mom and hope for that strength. I think when you need to do something, you just do it. Bc raising my third dog alone…I had COVID, I could barely get up after surgery, I’ve had major episodes of panic and depression- but when you have another life to care for, you find a way. If you don’t want me to mention you in my vlogs, no worries at all! You’re younger than me (I think), but I look up to you and you’ve saved me with declittering and motivation w this move. Less decluttering than I would’ve liked happen here…you’ll know as a PTA- I have a herniated disc in my back- and so it’s been really really hard to do anything. And it goes slowly. 13:59 I absolutely hear you at this!!! Omggggg 😭😭😭😣😣😣inspection Wed and I am scared. Thanks to your advice I gave myself 2 days after having movers take things to new place. I’ve been cleaning as I go but I left time for that. Going to have to kennel my baby pup for 1 night and it’s breaking my heart. Your hair is gorgeous here 11:18 !!!! What did you do??!!!

I agree with some of the others. Keep may one or two items that you think might be special to Kelly, take pics of the rest and get rid of it. I think subconsciously you have an emotional attachment to his dad's stuff. Keep pictures but there was no relationship between his dad and Kelly so there is a possibility that when Kelly finds out the full story, it may do more harm than good having all that sruff. Keep a few of Kelly's baby outfits, take photos of the rest and get rid of it. I have a box for each of my children with a few special items and lots of pictures that I will give to them at some point. Believe me, I am like you in that I have the tendency to form an emotional attachment to things, especially those that involve my kids. One day I realized that it is not so much the thing but the memory attached to the things. Even pictures can be scanned onto a computer hard dirve or flash drive. Digital picture frames are amaxing. You can have one pictureframe and a slide show of pictures. That's why I cleaned out and norrowed everything down to one tub each. Just praying God brings some strong, male father figure into Kelly's life that will love him and teach him what being a dad is all about.

Now for your son sake pack up the bad in a suitcase you get from goodwill and take it too a transfer station and pay too dump it. Leave it there and don't look back . Come home take a shower fix yourself up and take your son too a movie . No looking back make plans for tomorrow and do them. Make long term plans and set them inmotion. You can do it !

Ex-boyfriend. She wanted to end the relationship. He was helping pack up the house, but now that is over. Most of the household stuff is hers. He took his stuff and left. It's best to keep interactions with exes to a bare minimum.
