This video is amazing! I had problems with duct work and I suspected my younger son of crawling through them to get to different rooms but I could never quite catch him until I watched this video. Thank you!

Hey Thunder, Ok. That’s the first I’ve ever heard that!!! Just feed him more. When he gets stuck he’ll hollar - then you’ll know where he is! 😳 J/K Thx for watching!

Great ideas and detailed info! Love the editing. 😃 Old houses renovations are fun, but can take a lot more time and thinking outside the box with what is available without breaking the bank due to the need to modify so many items. We have moved main floor heating vents in the floor out towards the exterior wall more, as so many of our circa 1890's house heat runs come up into the inner wall area, just to be sucked down into the nearby large floor air return. No wonder it feels cold in here at times. Our next project is hopefully moving the hallway/main stairway area's large floor air return to possibly go "into/under and coming out of the nearby stairway wall" using the same size iron grate.... freeing up the floor to not having to walk over the huge intake all the time. All accessible from the basement. Works on paper, at least. 😉

I'm renovating a 100 year old Detroit red brick home. One contractor told me he needs to break through the bricks in the basement in order for the ducts to go through the third floor. Another one recommended installing two furnaces one in the basement and another in the attic so he doesn't ruin the structure. I would appreciate your advice.

Hey valeria…, Hard to say w/o seeing it. But I would personally not like to bust out bricks - don’t want to create a structural issue. If money is no object, 2 furnaces would cause the least damage. Another option is a minisplit ( they do both heat and cool ) We’ve installed a few - MrCool makes affordable single units and multi-zoned units. You can see those from this playlist; kzbin.info/aero/PLExVGissIl-HC2liBQqZVP-sCqYCdtMcp Another option is to run a “chase” from the basement to the third floor. A chase is a boxed duct ( rectangular metal would be the least noticeable). If you could find a path for the chase from basement to 3rd floor though closets or hidden areas that would be ideal. But even modern new construction will run a visible boxed chase in horizontal drop downs across the ceiling or vertically in the corner of a room. We just did this in a 100 yr old house we are renovating. If you are heating 1 room, the duct chase might only need to be a 3x10 inch rectangle. If you are heating an entire floor - maybe a 6x18 inch duct ( all depends on the volume of air that needs to go up there. Don’t be afraid to get 3rd and 4th opinions. Don’t hesitate to ask us (or them) if you have more questions. You want the BEST option - not just any option. If you ask us - make a new post as I will see that quicker rather than in a thread. Hope you find the best solution! Thx for watching!
