Day trip (or overnighter suggestion) hop on a train (central station) and head up to Bendigo - it’s 2 hours by train & is one of the nicest cities in Victoria- being in central Victoria, it has more of a Mediterranean climate, so this time of year it’s definitely a bit warmer than Melbourne- so much to see within waking distance of train station!

Like for so many of us, spag bol is an economical staple. But I would suggest getting your mince from a butcher, because the supermarket stuff is often absolute rubbish, and expensive. You can get good deals in some butchers for, say, 2kg, then portion it and freeze it. I also sometimes buy a piece of chuck steak and finely chop/mince it. Sorry, is this a food channel? 😄

St Kilda, Elwood and Elsternwick has a large Jewish community. Melbourne has a good variety of weather, summers can get hot and the cold is not real cold, on average it rarely gets below 10-12 in winter, the southerly winds can cool things down a bit but mainly due to the wind chill factor. I have been living in Melbourne over 50 years after moving from Scotland at the age of 10 and like the variety of the landscapes in Victoria, from the coastline, the deserts up near Mildura, and the Victorian high plains, Omeo, Bright area, and then you have South Gippsland and Wilson’s prom, natural beauty everywhere . If you really want to get to know Victoria get a car and travel, Melbourne is just another city but the countryside is the best part. Enjoy your time here, lots of Poms in OZ . 👍👍👍
