Moving Giants

MOVING GIANTS. Rescuing massive locomotives and related railway equipment from the charismatic Steam Era was the challenge. Moving them to a place of safety by road for future generations to appreciate was the objective. The Sandstone team and their contractors made it look easy. So many things could have gone wrong. Nothing did.

Kudos from Germany! I had the opportunity to visit the Sandstone Estate in 2018, which really was an unforgettable experience. Congratulations on this precise and wise move to preserve those gems of old steam technology!

So sad to see them moved like this. I remember when they were moved to Germiston all those years ago. I just hope that the locos left behind in Germiston find new safe homes too. Well done Sandstone!!! and, well done to the people who did the moves too.
